The problem with the typical EULA 'click-wrap' licenses is that they also don't hold up in court very well.
You know why? Because you agree to the license by simply clicking on the button. There is no record of who clicked on it or weither or not they read it. Blind button presses arn't exactly the most legally binding form of agreement. When you are not even required to read the EULA, and sometimes not even shown (click here to read our bitch-ass terms) what you are allowed to agree on you can certanlly argue in court that there was no formal agreement. Besides you were resourceful and installed the software by hand and never even saw the EULA (and you downloaded it from a direct link without seeing the EULA on the web page). Deep linking is legal by the way. If they were serious they would make you fax in a signed document before you could install it.
DAMN. It would be unberable to watch at that resolution. After the cost of a high-end pda and a microdrive, you could practally buy one of those portable dvd players with the built in screen and watch your DVD/VCD of the matrix on the plane with decent quality. Or just bring a total of a $100 worth of gameboy color shit and play that on the plane.
I dont know why I'm defending the simpler pda. Its not like all those features wouldn't be somewhat cool, but does it do a good job as a PERSONAL DIGITAL ASSISTANT? Thats what I bought it for, along with the other 80% of the pda market. Oh well fsck it.
A couple reasons why I think multimedia and lots of RAM on PDAs is a good idea as we look towards the future... Umm, i'm not saying lots of ram is a bad idea, cause more ram only gives you more room. But try looking *backwards* to PCs that were coming out. They tried to classify the computers as MPC or MPC2 (Multimedia PC). The problem was that those classifications failed miserably after people got tired of watching those five avis on the windows cd and people realized that on the 14.4 modem it would take them 20 minutes to download a 5 second clip the size of a postage stamp. Broadband has been the only boon to multimedia on modern desktop computers and that is something sorely lacking on the 'shiny' new PDAs. Your pda is now completely tied to your personal computer to use any of its advanced overpriced features. I know that I personally never use my desktop except to back up the contents of my device, and ocasionally send it the latest application down the wire.
UMMMMMM..... Why would one bother to download the trailer, send it to thier pda, waste valuable memory, and watch it on a tiny batter-powered screen. Watch it on yer damn computer and use your pda for something USEFUL. I carry around this little grey brick in my pocket because it has piles of useful info that makes my day a heck of alot eaiser. Its quick and easy, becoming a seamless extension of your everyday life. It does exactly what 80% of the pda market wants..... Anything more, and you buy a *laptop*. Heck, you can even get a mini sized laptop for not much more than these things anymore.
My palm only crashes with explicit conflicts. I *never ever ever* get random-ass crashes. Only when something dosn't happen to like a hack I have installed or is missing something critical, or dosn't like something that was added/changed in the latest revision of the Palm OS...
I downloaded the whole helix installation through their nifty gui, and it came up with a message - "Not enough space, please free up 45.9 MB". So I emptied out 150 mbs, and the program proceded to re-download the whole damn thing again, and then said "Not enough space, free up 45.9mb." GAWD DAMIT.
You know, mabye Katz is only posting stories on slashdot that 'rub against the grain' to see what we come up with. Perhaps it is some study in psylogical 'nerd herd' response. Slashdot almost inevatably begins talking about how they don't like it, or don't like the people who don't like it in a viscious attempt to protect their idea of how slashdot should be. It is quite intresting to read threads on any kind of story that some people think don't belong on "their slashdot" and the 'insightful' responses saying "Quit your bitching."
I don't really care weither or not this story belongs on slashdot or not. I do think that these discussions are part of slashdot in every way. A sort of cross-refrence of the community that shows people's passions, what they love, hate, and are willing to defend. Only the lowest of trolls speak out to say they hate slashdot. Its the majority that defends it by trying to protect the integrity of news, or the integrity of posts.
I have a feeling that Katz just sits back and watches with fascination...
No! The best way to measure the ammount of consumed beverage is to observe how much they drank, and then how much they piss out (adjusted for bodly consumpsion of course). The rest must be hiding in the beard.
Well, coward, I'm sorry if I seemed to imply that I hate microsoft and want to freeload their shit. My Reasons for saying that were:
Internet explorer generally is a more stable, reliable browser that has better support for things like java and css.
Netscape for linux is a pice of shit.
Microsoft in its current state will never release a browser for linux... It would take a split to get anything out of them for linux.
I happen to prefer linux for most other stuff, but it would be nice to have a little more competition in the way of end-user software.
I dont have anything against Microsoft the company. I would like to see them support *nix because for general applications (not operating system) you get a well rounded, feature packed, user friendly program that wouldn't hurt linux one bit.
The split wasn't a wish of hatred, it was a wish for an event that might yeild a desirable result, without getting into the deep politics and bussiness aspects of why it is good/bad overall.
Thats seriously messed up. How could that even occur without someone tampering with some system on the search engine. Its not like www.microsoft.com mentions Netscape Navigator more on their page then NETSCAPE does....
Mabye they'll get split and we'll get more competitive browser options for linux.
Nope, netscape's homepage has confused many. I just downloaded navigator 4.72 (through WWW, ftp is way to slow right now) by clicking through to the downloads. Only when you get to the end, after pick your operating system (UNSUPPORTED!) do you get the option of communicator or navigator, and 56 or 128 bit.

Hey, if you want to have some quick, cheap and durable method of distributing source code, go to Rhino Cd Card. They sell a little 40 mb cd the size of a bussiness card that could be filled with copies of the source code and given away....
Hey, has anyone looked into printing the source code in a micro-dot?
Hey, if you want to get those spacers of man, take the end off one of those white bic pens and push it on the top side of the spacer. You should be able to pull it off from the other side with ease.
To fix this 'problem' all we have to do is start the open source group update. A single place with a listing of all the latest versions. Even could write a program to check version numbers and download the required fixes.
One thing you do have to rember about the Macintosh train-of-thought is that mac users are *alot* less intrested in taking apart their computers and tinkering around with them. It would drive many typical PC users crazy if they couldn't tear their system apart whenever they feel the need. Those 'translucent rounded lumps' are perfect for someone who only needs functionallity with the least bit of hassle.
Bear in mind that you will find Macs that are still in use after a decade or more of service. The are often purchased for one purpose, and can serve the same function for year to come.
The only market for these 'lumps' in the PC world is users who want the simplicity in hardware and don't use the computer for any productive application, thereby runing a Windows PC.
Well, Apple has recently switched from SCSI to IDE on most of their models, as IDE has gotten faster. Macs also have pci slots, as some High-end hardware is compatable with both systems.
Didn't the previous I-Mac have the lens in the tray, similar to many laptop cd drives? If so, a trayless drive would be great improvement. I'm sure there is nothing worse than scratching the hell out of the lens on your shiny new computer's dvd drive.
The laywers that found they were sueing thier own client, have dropped thier case (a couple days ago infact...) but other firms have chosen to pick up on such a "tempting" suit. For more up-to-date gaming news, pocket.ign.com is a good and reliable source
Hey, its a small time operation. I have very little users, and virtually zero load. And I can take my dsl up to 2/3 the speed of a T1, which more than ample for a sizeable number of users. For the bots and small web pages on my box, its more than plenty at the moment.
I have yet to recive a complaint from any user to date.

At RhinoCdCard.com they specialize in putting custom data on custom cut cds for a very low price.
They have one that is barely larger than a business card that holds 40mb, and they also plan on producing DVDs cut the same way.
