not just Google phones. The last picture I took of my Dad disappeared. It reappeared days later with the bottom quarter lost. Locking the phone immediately seemed to cut off the picture processing. Luckily I've still got his last smile to remember him by.
She t-boned you because you didn't then have the experience to avoid an idiot. My first week on a motorbike I was right turned (left in the US) because I didn't avoid an idiot, broken collar bone and bike.
If you have half a clue, get a raspberry-pi, get a domain name, set it up as an email and Wordpress server. Now you can project yourself as professional or personable as you want. You can be a household or expand to a company, show family or products, broadcast opinions, connect with others you own it, you control it, you secure it
It is identical here in Australia. Started with unemployment benefits. Now anything to do with the government, they've made it difficult to not use my.gov.au, so far I've escaped the future.
My wife's phone number got hijacked and ported to another provider. This was used to attack the bank account and open new credit accounts. We responded quickly and luckily our bank had very safe procedures. But a lot of banks aren't as good. The police weren't very useful. We now have extra protections in place.
A case study is the agrarian movement, grain farmers in the north west USA. Who controlled the production, storage, transport or markets. Forming groups, forcing others out of business, manipulating the markets. Farmers co-operatives, middlemen, large business, opportunists, monopolies, government regulation. Different business structures formed in different states and went through a number of phases over time. It got complicated and they played rough because there was a lot of money and power up for grabs.
Chemists worked out how to make plastics. Now their job is working out how to fully biodegrade plastics. If they could be degraded into something safe and useful, all the better.
I see this as theft, not even clever theft. But many innovators are, by necessity, standing on their predecessors shoulders. To integrate you often need to know how other products work.

You're one of the youngsters. Look up Keynesian, nothing to do with what is happening in this greedy self indulgent world. Keynesian type economics helped take Australia through the 2008 GFC quite successfully. They're in for a harsh lesson of how the oligarchs shut down socialism. I'm over 60 and left of Gandhi
They're putting insanely good processor technology inside phones and it's got to cost. Each new model brings technology advancements, throwing out old silicon for the newest arm ++ with amazing IO. I use SBCs and am just starting to see cheaper offerings with a couple of A72 cores, I'd love to keep up with the Joneses but I'm cheap!
I've been saying this for a few decades. We need positive identification as a basis for trust. You can be identified by biometrics and location. Your ID probably has to be underwritten by a number of official forms of identification, drivers license, bank card, passport, birth certificate, relatives, etc. Then a network has to be secure enough to base that trust on, probably verified by a cross referenced, Geo-located audit trail. Anonymity and obfuscation is bullshit.
