if i steal an album from a record store, is it the same thing as downloading it?
the obvious answer is NO.
Some argue that copyright infringment is the same as stealing. They say that it hurts the artists, and people are just as guilty if they steal something from a store.
When was the last time you robbed a store, and the store didn't directly see a loss? Did you make an exact (or near exact, you mp3 nazis) copy of the carrot you stole at the grocery store?
yes, it is rationalizing copyright infringement, but it is not rationalizing theft.
please, if i hear one more person say copyright infringement == theft, i'm going to shoot someone.
Survival is irrelivant. Independant games will always survive as long as there is some kid toying in his basement (looking to put gary winston out of buisness..... its a joke.... laugh) there will be independant games. Competing is another question. Games have become the equivilant of music. 85%-90% of game revenues are from so called 'hits.' Game companies are always looking for another hit, so they can't really experiment the way indy game developers can. Indy developers can nab themselves a hit, and then "sell out" to a bigger company to make more money. I see this happening. Instead of forming a garage band, many people will begin forming (or have formed) garage development houses.
i was going to say given topics. LIKE, its always interesting to read a pro microsoft argument on slashdot. Its always interesting to hear someone be like "go patriot act (blech)" or to say "i dont honestly mind if some of my civil liberties are gone."
i think thats what i like, and what a lot of people hate.
maybe people have different opinions. Slashdot isn't made out of people who think the same way everyone else does, or else that'd be boring. With the exception of liking technology, the slashdot community is diverse and sometimes friendly.
I'm absolutley sure that your post will get answered. I mean, its not harsh at all, and interviewees love answering questions that make accusations and seem to come from a bad place.
If you want to get questions answered in the real world, try using a couple of techniques. If you want to ask a question that seems like its harsh, make it seem like you're not asking it. Say something like "what do you say to your critics that say Why does AMI think they shouldn't be held responsible for enabling Palladium and similar schemes?" that is the exact same question, but more people would answer it.
Just trying to give you some ideas so that you get the answers you crave without pissing people off.
seriously dude, people that bitch about slashdot need to check themselves. why is it an editors responsibility to check the tag. if you call slashdot a journalism site, then call it that and pay the editors more, and make them do a better job.
If its just a community site where its users share links that they find interesting, and the editors share the links, call it that too. Why would the editors want to misquote someone/ and or why do you care if you read the article?
No, I didn't have any problems typing, because I can type with my eyes shut. If I make a mistake, I feel it, and hit backspace without even needing to see what's on the screen.
thats actually not right. Public performance is charging someone to partake in something. (movies are the prime example) By someone getting in my taxi, i'm not charging them to listen to my music.
read on later, and realize that they already do do this in the USA. Some companies have blanket ASCAP liscences so that they can use copywrited songs in their corporate videos, as well as listen to pretty much any music they want to.
Is bjork finnish? she seems to be the only recording artist making money internationally (and that was a few years ago). I guess teh artists need this, except that they'll never see a penny.
Facial features are very personal. No one will look at someone if i donate my kidney and be like "HEY, you recieved your kidney from Randall!" yeah, its just not a good idea.
The T-mobile sidekick is finally a PDA that i like. Along with the typical PDA functions, there is browsing the web, AIM, and a cell phone. Makes it a more useful tool (for wasting time most likely, but still).
I used to work for a similar guy, who ran a hotel in mexico. I'm sorry to all the people who i hurt, because i made it so that no one could complain about him. If you ask, i'll tell you the full way how, and how its always going to be near impossible to get spammers of that high level in trouble.
SORRY EVERYONE!!! DONT GO TO CHATEAU MANZINILLO IN MEXICO!!
I don't see a problem with this at all. Sponsorship in videogames goes hand in hand. It helps the company reduce development costs (and make money from the looks of the online world) and most people like having something real world in the game. I just don't see the problem...
Wow, i downloaded mo, i was thinking about switching, and now i've officially decided. In case anyone needs any more coersion, this is your truth serum.

*bang*
thanks for the rant.
as in it can't be extracted, but you could get it from analog sources. (most people would say it would take listening to the whole cd to copy it)

i've never lost an SMS message, and like most college students i message a good 10 people multiple times a day. i've never had a problem with it.

PS If you're remotley sly, see what else i wrote.

wow, an accurate buisness plan on slashdot! Amazing.
PS #5 could be hiring lawyers to defend charging $100 per linux pc.

who is everyone? You? personally, i prefer a computer that takes up less space on my desktop, but i dont know about you....

now that is 1337.
i remembered 386 was the limit of moores law, so yeah.

i'll bite.

yeah, so yeah.....
NOT RIAA
probably the RIAF or RIFA (recording industry association of AMERICA)
Is bjork finnish? she seems to be the only recording artist making money internationally (and that was a few years ago). I guess teh artists need this, except that they'll never see a penny.
Now, this just in. If you listen to music, while someone other than the person who bought the CD is in the room, you must pay $20 annually to RIAA.
That is all.

the fact that you called it soccer is weird. I live in the US, i have all my life, but the whole soccer thing, i just don't get.
