Children learn hand eye coordination as well as navigating UI's that are needed for important job skills later.

I know that i got into computer because of video games. I played console games but when my parents got a PC i was determined to play games on it. The drive i had to actually use the computer enabled me to learn my way around the OS when i couldn't figure something out. If there was noting interesting on the computer for me i would have not used it when it wasn't working. As an aside, it's unreasonable to say that people (most of whom are neither young nor fit) should commute under their own power for distances of more than a a mile or so. Take a look at American demographics. Saying "man up" shows a lack of consideration for the larger problem.

Almost anyone can ride a bike. There are a couple of reasons holding people back though. Probably the biggest one is assuming biking is hard or slow. A lot of this is because non cyclists often ride a mountain bike on the road. Do you ride an ATV to work? Wouldn't you think that was slow if you did? Plenty of people do drive off road oriented SUV's all the time but i digress. Not only does bicycling not have ot be slow it doesn't have to be hard. Yes it will be difficult at first but even after a few weeks of riding you will be considerably more fit. It comes pretty quickly to people who are untrained and out of shape. The problem is that people never tough out the few weeks it takes to get into shape. Remember you can be fat but in shape. Of course the weight loss and body image will eventually come too.

Someone who is not very fit not only CAN ride a bike but they should. It is good for their own health and not only will it decrease their gas and car maintenance expenses but it reduces their health costs. Bicycling is one sport that you will get better at no matter how old you start it. You don't have to train to race to get better. If you always commute the same route your body will eventually reach a point where it isn't hard.

All it takes is a slight mindset change. You can suppliment riding the bus with riding a bicycle. Ride between bus routes. A bike is faster than a car in town/city. A bus is as fast as a car on the freeway. Overall my trips around the area are quicker than with a car becuase i use the bike/bus. This goes for long distance trips that involve the highway too. The busses often ahve bus lanes and can use the express lanes.

public transit is by and by large garbage

First of all that is not really true. People dont like it becuase they wouldn;t want to be caught dead as an adult riding the bus. In many areas there is good public transportation that only takes slightly longer to get where you are going. People still wont do it and its a cultural thing. In plenty of other countries public transportation doesn;t ahve the same stigma. In America if you ride the bus people assume you got a DUI, or are a loser, or are a hippie.

It is precisly becuase of the perception that public transportation is no good that it is held back from being truly good. I know someone is going to chime in here about how they live in an area with no bus service but please don't. Im not talking abnout where there really are no other options. I am talking about where there is perfectly good service and very few people use it.

The things you own begin to own you. Try riding a bike sometime. The more you rely on the car the more of your life is dedicated to maintaining that car. Its a vicious cycle that leads to lots and lots of time wasted in traffic.

...until somebody else's "free life" comes at the expense of your own wellbeing. Then you're fucked.

How do the current laws prevent someone from hurting you? The answer is they don't. They generally put someone in jail afterwards which deters crime overall but it does nothing to protect you as an individual. Time and time again the courts (supreme included) have said that the role of the police is to protect the greater good, not the individual. That is why you can't sue the police for not showing up quickly. Presumably they chose to go somewhere where they were protecting the greater good.

Your job as an individual citizen is to protect yourself. This is the case under the current system and under a theoretical anarchy it would be the same. Nobody can or will protect you other than yourself. Get educated and get armed if you think that is right for you. You don't have to carry a gun but there is a lot you can do to learn to protect yourself. Also by protect i don't just mean physical attacks. It is your own responsibility to guard yourself from fraud and theft. Buy locks and pay attention. Too many poeple think someone out there is going to protect them so they fall into scams and fraudulent traps. Too many people assume it can't or won't happen.

Anarchy would be no less safe. You right now are not safe unless you have taken the time and effort to protect yourself. I personally don't think anarchy would be the best system but too many people just assume it would be chaos. True anarchy would be anything but. The current system of corrupt government is more chaotic than a true anarchy. The key there being a "true" anarchy; it would be just as impossible to achieve as a true communism. Because of the difficulty in achieving either i think both are a waste of time. It is still worth discussing anarchy because there are many lessons to be learned just from considering what could be.

Not exactly. Saturated fats have a bad rep. They are bad however because they are the most difficult macro nutrient for your body to use. Many of the original studies that condemned saturated fat were actually testing TRANS fat (which is a saturated fat, artificially saturated). Many people now believe that saturated fat is not entirely bad and maybe beneficial if you eat it in MODERATION. It all seems to make sense to me, moderate and you are ok.

I would guess filling your face with burgers is probably not a good way to get saturated fat. However many people avoid eating things like cheese and nuts because they contain saturated fat. I don't think that is such a big deal as long as it is in moderation and part of an overall healthy diet.

I have heard of some vegans and vegetarians finding that their health improves to a level better than when they ever ate meat or purely "healthy" veggies when they finally eat more "less healthy" veggies such as nuts.
