I would expect comcast to try to pull this on its customers but thats why its worth paying a small premium to not support a heartless corporation who will make you pay in the end.

I think hunger relief is often the the far less useful money that gets rid of guilt. Somehow people think if someone is not literally starving they don't deserve their help.

Yes people are still starving but it is less than it has been before and the reason for hunger is almost always political, economic, or weather related. Much of the human reasons for keeping people hungry are dealt with when you educate and empower the population.

I don't think it is fair to consider people who have enough to eat often by subsistence farming to be too rich for our aid. This laptop plan may or may not be the best way but it is far from useless or harmful. I guess we will find out soon enough.

Man you just can't make gamers happy. If they change the game play and keep the graphics nearly the same people complain its not what they know and like. Look at Starcraft and Counter Strike, 2 of the most popular games ever. The gameplay is so solid nobody wants it to change. Notice how CS:Source didn't really take off other than the fact it has to be played in the big tourneys. Solid gameplay is important and once you get the perfect gameplay dont change it too much. People will happily play add ons with new features but are generally the same game.

Look at games like chess, the same game play has lasted hundreds of years. The chess boards have gotten ornate and computer chess can show some cool pieces but its the same solid game play people want and EXPECT.

Though the game suffers somewhat from overly-familiar game play in the single-player component, you'll probably be too busy gawking at the scenery to care

This is a review from someone who wants everything new. They don't really care about the game they just want it to be new and shiny. Something to distract them. I know a lot of people play video games for the same reason they watch TV, to distract themselves for a while. If you really want new game play look outside the FPS genre. There are some subcategories of FPS games that you might want to try but stop complaining that they didn't throw the baby out with the bathwater and redesign what works.

I just got back from a bike tour in France. I was amazed at how courteous the French drivers were to bicycles considering how rude they appeared to each other. French drivers are crazy, they drive fast and turn sharp and quick. Despite this i felt very safe. I saw almost nobody wearing a helmet in France and I'm sure its because its actually fairly safe to ride a bike there.

I mean, I hate when bikes ride the roads when they don't need to

Bikes almost always need to. It is unsafe to ride on sidewalks at the speed most bike commuters move at.

    because it impeeds cars

Cars don't own the road. Bikes are traffic too. Also keep in mind the speed limit is the maximum permissible speed according to the law. That means if it is wet or dark or sunny or anything that impedes your driving ability the law says you MUST go slower, and in fact you may NEVER go faster regardless of the circumstances. I don't feel bad riding my bike on the roads, cars have to share even if they don't want to.

In fact, slowly this place is going more "green" such that some people who do ride bikes snub those who don't.

Not if car drivers can do anything about it. Here are some of the news of bicycling around Seattle within the last 2 months.

I recently spent a bit of time in Paris and Lyon in France. They both has city wide bicycle rentals that work out really well. I think a bike is better suited to this kind of thing. The main problem i see is that Americans don't want to ride a bike. In France i saw many business men in suits riding the bicycles around with their brief case on the back. Without the social stigma of riding a bike in Europe they can do it. In America people believe if your riding a bike its because you got a DUI or your just broke.

GHB can actually be quite safe. For one it is a naturally occuring chemical that exists in every cell of your body RIGHT NOW. It can be used as an intoxicant but the words "date rape drug" are not fair. There are so many potential date rape drugs out there, alcohol being #1.

GHB is used as a sleep aid and to treat alcoholism. Also when small amounts of GHB are taken it increases growth hormones and has been used by bodybuilders. Of course it can be dangerous but calling it simply a "date rape drug" and nothing else is unfair.

Let me play devil's advocate for a moment. Lets say you have a system where when someone steals music they have to pay the actual damages. If the actual damages is the lack of money they got from you buying the song then the actual damages are the same as the retail value. So that means you copy a CD online and you damaged them $15 or so.

So in this system what is going to prevent everyone from stealing first and paying later? If the only amount you pay is close to what you would have payed anyway it makes good business sense to steal. With all that said this whole case is ridiculous but thats because of the jury instructions as you mentioned, not the final amount she might have to pay. That is just layers of ridiculousness.
