    Making that sort of pledge is rather rash. I am not saying it can't be done, but I don't see it as simple to fix anything anytime.

    Questions you have to ask are;

    Is it really a bug?

    Can it really be reproduced?

    etc etc

    Being timely in bugs is good. But not all crashes are the result of bad software. You have to be sure your fix doesn't turn another thing into a bug. They would soon end up chasing after every little bit of dust and lose sight of their real work.

    So how does one prove that the computer in question had been/was infected? Unless they kept detailed logs at the ISP then only an analysis of the traffic would be proof.

    I would guess the ISP would balk at that due to;

    1. The unlikelihood they had these on file. (if they did they would see a mass exodus of customers on GP)

    2. The in-house costs of doing this analysis likely outside of the skill sets of the usual NOC staffers. Meaning Who is going to pay for said work? (See reason 1)

    3. The Lawyers for the ISP refusing and standing on the grounds that they as a Common Carrier are not required to keep/give this sort of info without a search warrant in a CRIMINAL case. (by the way who are they we should shine some light on them)

    But other claims could be made, like claiming that the wireless Linksys router the had didn't have any security or was provably crackable. [read as walk in the park]

    Agreed, I walked away from over 2000 rollover minutes that Cingular (oh now its AT&T) swindled me out of paying for.

    my phone is a Treo with a Sim Card so I just went online and got a unlock code for it. Now it's just pay as you go when ever I need it. Next phone will be sim card and I will pay the full price for it. Its is the only way to really keep your costs and your freedom.

    Trolling aside I think it's a misstep. Ad supported services have failed and failed. At some point somebody has to pony up some duckets to somebody for Cell service. But as it stands it will likely just drive down the price of the already bloated cell service costs.

    Free isn't a good price.

    And when the ball inside went so did the control. I use one all the time and unless you pony up $30+ for a mousepad that works they tend to do unusual things like fly into the corner for no reason. Even then the control is not suited for gaming.

    Now I use the back of a Composition book that also doubles as a notebook. The random blotch pattern in black and white is ideal. At a buck or two these are great.

    They do eat batteries. NiCad don't last but a good fast charger w/ a four pack of AAAs do well enough.

    The article is a fluff piece with no real info, the findings from that study didn't yield anything as its redundant. And there is evidence in an article I read last year in GQ (of all places) that mice are the main targets of the infection that it thought to cause Schizophrenia.

      Also the Wikipedia entry point out that a realistic study say that the real infection rate is 0.55% of the population. [I guess we are not as crazy a planet as first mentioned]

    Population about 6-7 Billion now. So lets figure that only one in 6 is gullible enough to buy Windows.

    To do first line Tech Support they will need at least 250 Million people to answer phones with 'Is the powercord plugged in?" and "Hit Ctrl-alt-delete several times till it reboots" These are the lucky ones they will have jobs for life! [till somebody builds a Linux-based AI to use an Eliza strategy to answer calls]

    We will also need a crack team of at least 50 Million Linux/Mac Users to mock Window Users full time. Honestly I think it pretty much have of the user base that engages in this. But these people will be trained professionals dammit! {I should start a magazine devoted to Pr0n and Windows Mockery, it will be bigger then Playboy, Penthouse and Southern Baptist Monthly. Talk about a wankfest)

    Coders, well need lots of them. Coders can work for anybody C++ is universal as is Java. C# and .Net programmers will be useful we just need a lot of those little yellow school buses.

    And Garbage Haulers, We're gonna need them badly!

    Well, that aside but because it had to be done. But to business. I remember when 64bit cpus came out Sun and a few others had them (12 years ago) the programming took forever to catch up. They are still selling 32bit processors as new. I think I will leave that hanging in the air.
