  1. Profoundly Immoral and Malevolent on California Elementary Schools To Test Anti-Piracy Curriculum · · Score: 1

How broken does a society have to be to allow corporate interests to determine curriculum? In so many ways the US leads the world in notions of making knowledge available to the public. Try getting the rights to include an image of a painting held in a British museum for an educational documentary, then try getting the rights to one held in a US museum. Is the cultural empire the last leg of US superiority? What happens when we start dancing to pop music from another country and a foreign country exceeds Hollywood in terms of Box Office (China wants to in 5 years)? I can't help think the *AAs and the US govt have a larger agenda than mere downloading of film and music.

  2. A Roof on Largest-Known Planet Befuddles Scientists · · Score: 1

It could be a smaller, denser planet with a great big artificial roof. A planetary equivalent of a Dyson Sphere would expand the apparent volume and lower the apparent density. Maybe we should look for a chimney.

  3. Re:Evolution vs Inteligence Re:Creationists on Chimps Evolved More Than Humans · · Score: 2, Interesting

It's not the slowest gazelle that ends up being a lion's dinner. Predators single out individuals from the herd. Anything that makes one gazelle stand out from the herd is enough. Some guys got a grant to go and paintball herd animals in Africa. Predators went unerringly for the paintballed zebra or antelope. It's not that the lions single out the old, weak, sick or the slow, they single out the one that stands out from the rest and remain focused on them in the mass of other moving animals.

  4. Re:Tsunami Survival Question on Quake and Tsunami Devastate South Asia · · Score: 1

I believe ships are advised to move out away from land in the event of an approaching Tsunami. Ships in the area are being asked not to come to shore for 24 hours.

  5. Re:Anyone speak Latin? on How 8 Pixels Cost Microsoft Millions · · Score: 1

Rubbish. Sheila just means woman. It's not even as derogitory as "broad." It certainly doesn't mean prostitute which, for some reason lost in history, Americans seem to believe. Good on the Olympic commentators who have finally figured out how to pronounce Aussie.

  6. Re:Apple as an investment on Why iPod Can't Save Apple · · Score: 1

Apple split twice in that time frame. The graphed value doesn't take that into account.
