Thanks for the advice. I custom specify (well, with advice from vendors) all my computers and wouldn't get him a Dell or other clone machine.

Off on a tangent: there's a vendor here in Canada that advertises heavily on TV and they denigrate "clone computers". Funny how the marketing terminology evolves isn't it.

Anyway, I want to stay away from proprietary "non-clonish" motherboards and give him the most flexible system possible at the lowest price. I can't really afford to replace the whole system 6 months later and I want him to appreciate the concept of upgrading.

Come to think of it, you've given me a great idea: I'm going to buy the parts all seperately and let him assemble them with my help so that he learns about hardware.

Or are you saying that innovation only happens via blind luck, pure ignorant brilliance or religious belief?

Maybe the real problem is people who think they know more than they actually do and are too arrogant to admit what they don't know. Known knowns, known unknowns, unknown knowns, etc.. Yup, "unknown knowns" is a big joke now due to popular ridicule of a seemingly nonsensical concept, but just read the link above and learn.

Think about it a bit - if you know what you want to accomplish but are unsure about the details of getting there you have to realize what you don't know, right?

Also, don't forget that the size of male members in all these porn pictures/videos is the work of CGI and prosthetics - there is no such thing as an "average" of 6.5 inches. This size fallacy is based on measuring the erect penii of males willing to be measured - how many of those could there be? It's pretty obvious that Short Dick Joe won't show up to be measured and there's about 5 guys worldwide with 16 foot-longers that skew the average.

There, I've said it. Now I feel better about my 3" erect appendage and you should, too. Wouldn't it be nice if I could get discreet, private information about how to feel more manly?

My site has been #1 (and sometimes #2 as well - it is currently occupying both spots) with Google for a couple of years if you plug in "piping design" (without the quotes).

I don't sell stuff except for relevant, relatively cheap advertising, promo stuff through CafePress and AdSense, but do make maybe $100/year from commission on books bought via an afilliate relationship.

Maybe the subject matter is too esoteric for drastically increased page views, maybe Google considers the site as a good meta site for the subject matter, maybe having the search words as part of the domain name helps a lot, maybe I've done a good job with keywords and content, maybe...

What's odd is that my #2 Google results listing changes every few months to a page that has not necessarily been updated recently and the "Advertise Here" page is often in the #2 Google ranking. Perhaps Larry and/or Sergey have a secret appreciation for we who design refineries and other piping-related stuff.
