    i am curious, what kind of skill set would be necessary to apply for a job there? i have a unix background, but no knowledge about astronomy/ space tech whatsoever [although i think the whole thing is rather interesting]. maybe someone in the /. community has some ideas on how to get into this industry?

    buy an usb adapter for the game cube controller from lik-sang [they need money for the lawsuit vs microsoft, so its the slashdot-correct option, too]. the gc pad is recognized as a HID device, and it works with mame right out of the box.

    i wish people would stop calling id softwares quake/doom series games "sequels" or "uninnovative". in my opinion, these games serve a higher purpose: they put us closer to virtual reality with each title, which is a good thing. they have very few things [or goals] in common with tetris or c&c.

    would someone care to explain what kind of an entity bbnplanet is? they seem to own the 256th part of the internet, and they got a pretty low number, too: 4.0.0.0/8. and what is their connection to the DoJ or other governmental entities? after all, there are p2-0.washdc3-cr11.bbnplanet.net (4.24.10.22) and h0-0.usdeptjust2.bbnplanet.net (4.24.239.66) on my route to the new isonews host.

    btw, i kinda like the hostname justice2.usdoj.gov (149.101.1.3). makes me wonder what kind of naming scheme the DoD uses :)

    A line of code per 16 seconds again sounds good and we can all easily do it by reimplementing something that we've already done (ooh look at my reversing a string function!), but it is astoundingly unlikely that someone could continue such a rate beyond even an hour. If coding were so trivial we would have tools to generate the code.

    MS VS6.0: File-> New-> New Project-> Standard Hello World Program.
    BAM! here ya go, at least 1000 lines in ca. 5 secs. talk about trivial coding. ^_^
    but of course, your point about "reimplementing something" still stands.

    ..according to this rather random list.
    for those of you who dont know, he was a rather right-wing populistic politician in the netherlands until his violent death this year.
    since he is credited in the list as "stem van het volk" (i think this means "voice of the people", on the other hand i am german not dutch), and since both ophrah and lady di are also included, i think one should not take this list too seriously.
    and fortuyn is even pictured right besides anne frank! now that is BAD TASTE.

    it seems like most of the people posting here are using the d-link or some other usb bluetooth adapter... however, owning a powerbook, i would very much prefer some kind of internal adapter, namely a pcmcia bluetooth interface.
    since [one of] the point[s] of bluetooth is reducing the hassle of physically conneting two devices, it strikes me as rather annoying that i have to connect the usb adapter to the back of my tibook evertime i want to access a phone or pda. it is better than using a cable, but i still have to plug things into things.
    so, does anybody know about pcmcia bluetooth devices which are supported by os x?

    because i think that there are a lot of people who think of mr. hilter as having been german, and because it always bothers me when some place in austria or poland [or some other place which was part of/ invaded by germany at some time] is refered to as being german. because there are ultra righwingers in germany who would regard a company from innsbruck as being german.

    This overflow was discovered by the German security firm Phion; they have posted more info on this page.
    contrary to popular believe, austria [the country in which innsbruck [the city where phion is located] is located] is no longer a part of germany, nor has the German government made any plans for a re-annexation in the near future.

    Did you or any people you know ever consider the thing you did as a service to society? Is there a notion in the scene that what you did had to be done, not "because you could" or for impressing the peers, but for serving society as a whole?
    i ask because i think that the warez scene has contributed a lot towards helping third world or ex eastern blok nations keeping in touch with technological progress. i don't know any specific facts, but it seems logical to assume that the last thing a developing country wants to do is to pay for operating systems on a per-license basis...

    so, in other words, did you or your affiliates ever consider yourself as modern day robin hoods [as opposed to modern day john silvers ;] ?

    Daft Punk [french band] did a similar thing with their "Discovery" album... included was a unique personal access code which would allow you to download remixes and other stuff from their site.
    and contrary to bon jovi, the only things which squeal horribly in their music are the 303's ;)

    daft punk btw never allowed pictures of themselves to be released, they wore galactica style helmets for interviews. [unlike jon bon, who, as it seems, still tries to push his personality to the masses as a b-movie actor]

    first fembot in movie history!

    i had the opportunity to watch this masterpiece two months ago in a local alternative cinema... i really liked the way it was restored, they said they added altogether well over half an hour of previously thought lost material, which fritz lang had to cut out in order to gain more public acceptance in his days. scenes which were destroyed by time are summarized in caption screens, so you get to understand more of the whole picture.

    Because they want to. They are using their resources to do something they want to do. They don't owe you anything. Open source hackers don't exist to make free software for you. They exist because they like doing it.

    Of course, in this case the motivation could very well be the 0.2 MILLION DOLLARS which will be given to the people dealing successfully with this piece of previously closed hardware.
