Four days ago I would have disagreed. And then youtube did an update that broke my scraper and I haven't been able to figure out how yet. That said, I'd much rather that approach than, say, apple. Google won't have a problem with you doing weird shit with their services for the most part. As long as it's not scaming or triggers their automated warnings in some way. But you're shit out of luck if your unsupported method breaks. While apple just plain does everything they can to lock you out of doing anything in a way they didn't intend.

Agreed. I pretty much lost interest in it as a flash video replacement the second it became clear there wasn't going to be a set standard for codecs. I remember what it was like pre flash video on linux. A crappy situation of piggybacking on windows codecs and just hoping the site didn't have measures in place to prevent video from working at all in linux. I don't think it'll be that bad, but I can see a shadow of that in html5.

Backgrounder's probably the single biggest reason I have mine jailbroken. I'm always amazed at the people freaking out like multitasking would cause the thing to explode. People have been multitasking on it for years now. I've had a couple issues with backgrounding and sound, but that's about it. For the most part it's worked great for me.

Man, let me tell you, as a linux user I really miss the pre flash video days. It's so annoying facing a somewhat heavy processor load while watching videos online, compared to not being able to see them at all. To getting codec errors, and redirects because the browser detection was windows-centric or because they actually booted people away that were using linux. Glad to see those wonderful days might be making a comeback!

Five minute? It takes more than that just to back up the data on the phone before updating. I'd say it's closer to a full half hour, with the download factored in. More if you take time to read other peoples experiences before doing it. Bricking it might not be a huge danger, but winding up with a half functional system is. So all in all I'd put it closer to 45 minutes. And it's 45 minutes that you'll be repeating over, and over, and over again. While finding some apps don't work, waiting for others to catch up, etc.

I shrugged it off for the first half year I had an iphone. But there's not a chance in hell I'd put myself through it again. You shouldn't have to fight your system just to use it.

I'd still need hulu in addition to netflix. Then add in orb for local files, and I think it'd be an ok media device once it was jailbroken to allow for backgrounding. Still, all in all if I was going for something like that I'd really just rather go with an android based device.
