How silly. The NSA has run amok a few times due to lack of oversight but to compare them to the forces of evil is ludicrous. Sadly they have fallen prey to a common failing of many people, to feel that the end justifies the means.
It's entirely possible that they feel they are acting ethically by serving their country. Not everyone feels that it's wrong to work for the Department of Defense. While there are some problems with the lack of oversight on the NSA they still perform a necessary function for the Defense of the country.
I don't get it. What do you think these people are for? The NSA is built to spy on other countries and people communicating with those countries. DARPA is a "Department of Defense" agency. Their purpose is to build and design things for the Defense Department. If they can be used for the common good fine but that's not their first purpose. I don't understand hating these people for doing exactly what they are supposed to be doing. Jeez!
To the bank it doesn't make all that much difference between wanting to and being able to. They want their money. If you can make the case that they should wait and get most of it or push and get nothing they might wait. What happens when they finally figure out they made a mistake in loaning the money in the first place is not a good thing. They'll cut their losses and Greece will have to figure out how to live on what they have.
It appears that Greece is pretty much screwed. The people aren't willing to sacrifice to pay back the debt. I'm pretty sure the bankers have already given all the ground they're willing to give. At this point it looks hopeless. You've got an opportunist politician now running things who has won by telling people what they want to hear. I wonder what's going to happen when it becomes obvious he can't deliver?
Generally your home is your domain still. If you can make the case that you didn't know it was a cop then you can most likely get away with shooting one breaking into you home. This is why they yell "Police" and wear jackets with "Police" written on them with big bright letters before crashing the door. Best bet is don't offer any violence to them. That said, it's a dangerous thing breaking into someone's house because a lot of people, normal law abiding people, feel free to shoot anyone who invades their home.
I admire a lot about Steve Jobs but he had some serious personality flaws. He had the drive and the vision but he was totally unconcerned about any fallout from his decisions. All the appearance of a borderline sociopath just as you said. Too bad about Apple though now that he's gone. They're taking on water already.
Some truly horrible behavior. It should not be tolerated. I find it interesting that it has degraded so much there since the author of that article attended defcon3. I know when I was young such behavior was not tolerated. One girl in my class was walking up to turn in a test at the teachers desk when one of the guys reached over and flipped her skirt up to see her panties. She turned around and slapped him hard and everyone in the class laughed at him with the palm print on his face. When the teacher realized what had happened he was off to the office where his parents were called and he was suspended for 3 days. I often wonder if any of these assholes have sisters and what they'd do if someone grabbed their sister's crotch. What an ugly thing to do and it should not be tolerated.
We should get Linus one of those "doesn't play well with others" T-shirts. His behavior is somewhat over the top sometimes but then he's generally been provoked badly by that time. I think the fact that he does seem to get along well with a lot of kernel developers must mean he's capable of being civil when he wants.
It's nice to imagine the world the way you'd like it to be. Useless, but nice. Boys are boys for the most part with some exceptions and girls generally are girls with some exceptions. Environment no doubt plays some role in development but yet nature will have it's way. You can fight it all you want but some things happen at an instinct level. I would never discourage a child from becoming anything they desired. If a girl likes playing with cars I see no reason to discourage that any more than if she wants to play with dolls. I don't see anything wrong with females that want to be nurturing.

I didn't think we killed anywhere near 150,000 people. The Iraq body count during the occupation by the US was around 133,000 killed by both coalition and "insurgents." It's an ugly thing as war always is. The US didn't intentionally target civilians but in urban combat that doesn't mean much. It's impossible to conduct a war and not kill innocents which is why it's such a good thing to avoid war.
This is the one truth in your argument. There is no doubting that State sent false signals to Saddam repeatedly telling him they didn't give a rats ass about arab-arab affairs. That he was fool enough to believe that was what surprised me. He took Kuwait and they had him hooked and started reeling him in. Too bad he didn't get the point and just kept on kicking. If he'd gotten back in line he'd still be alive torturing people today. The US helped put him in power, then they helped take him out. He forgot who made him.
Non-renewable is self descriptive. All non-renewables would by definition be finite. Technically you may be right though. Given another few hundred million years I'm sure oil will be renewed.
