I junked my 15 year old CRT television this year and haven't looked back. I did wait until I could get a decent sized one for a decent price. A 47" 240hz LCD unit for $599 on a Black Friday sale. That's actually probably cheaper in dollars adjusted for inflation than I paid for my 32" CRT unit back in 1995 ($400). I love it. I watch a lot of outdoor programming and it's a nice enhancement. I've seen the 3D TV demos and I am greatly underwhelmed. I'd never pay one cent more for that and so far almost everyone I've talked to is equally unimpressed. You should shop around and buy a new HDTV though, it's worth it as there are plenty of sub $1000 units that look great.

I can see a big market in a totalitarian society for this. You put on programming to extol the virtues and greatness of the ruler/s and watch to see who is interested and who is not. Viewing of propaganda can be made mandatory and this insures that your people will not only view the programming but remain attentive. Potential dissidents would be much easier to spot. Modern technology has many ways to benefit man and also many ways to enslave him.

What I'm wondering is why in hell the control and monitoring systems for a nuclear power plant would ever be connected to the internet? I can see no problem with digital systems but they would not be networked in such a way as to leave any possibility of connecting to any kind of WAN. At least I'd hope not. It should be a standalone system with the operating system in ROM. I can't think of any network I'd want more secure, anywhere.

Makes as much sense as saying that people in Israeli Universities are responsible for all evil made on behalf of Israel. I was pretty much being sarcastic. I don't really give a shit where RMS talks so much as I'm just tired of people bitching about Israel like there is no fault on the other side. The only solution for this from the side of the Palestinians seems to be the total destruction of the State of Israel.

Actually Bush was a bad conservative as he massively grew government. President Obama is not a good liberal though. He's continued an undeclared, quasi-legal war in Afghanistan and Iraq. He's continued support of the onerous and misnamed Patriot act and unconstitutional wiretapping. He's still holding prisoners at Guantanamo Bay despite promises to close that facility. All popular liberal agenda items that he's failed to act on as a President despite promises to do so while campaigning. If it weren't for his pro abortion and gay rights stances I'd think he was a closet conservative. Even his so called "Obama Care" health care program ended up looking nothing like his promises. I'd bet serious money that if Joe Biden was President there would have been a vastly different agenda in the administration.
