Tho I hate linking to nuts at infowars.com they are the only ones posting the pics of the Craft guys:

Craft is contracted out at many events. This isn't the first nor will it be the last.

There were at least 4 Craft guys. They had radiation detectors on site and were caught on camera using them after the explosion. They were private contractors, not official government agents. All 4 Craft guys are well known to the FBI and were acting on behalf of the organizers of the event. This is something they do frequently.

Moving from GPLv2 to GPLv3 requires the consent of all contributors, there are a lot of holdouts among kernel developers (even Linus is against it - although it seems to be because he sees himself as an "apolitical" developer).

    Which was exactly my point.............

I personally prefer the BSD license. To me freedom means "do whatever you want with it," as soon as you start attaching strings and restrictions it's no longer free.

Then why not make it public domain? Why attach a license at all?

Good question. Because without a specific license attached companies and individuals alike wont touch it. The default is "all rights reserved" meaning its not open unless specifically stated. You retain rights until you explicitly give them up. Hope that makes sense, I'm not a lawyer and may not have explained it in the best of terms.

I believe they are commenting on how the vast majority of the developers who declared a software license picked something other than GPL.

Specifically GPLv3 which is, in my not so humble opinion, not a free software license.

Yes other people could make money off what I write but if I was worried about that I wouldn't have released it in the first place.

I really wish FreeBSD would keep up with Linux. I keep trying to go back to my FreeBSD roots but the hardware support isn't there, the software choices are narrowing (thanks to gnome3 and systemd) and the FreeBSD team has an "I don't care" attitude when it comes to the desktop.

No offense but you're entire post was anecdotal. I've dealt with dozens of people looking to do the same thing and its never worked out for them. Perhaps your state is more prone to this type of abuse, mine however is not. I can speak anecdotally also. I once looked into it myself during the dot com bubble crash. After speaking with several lawyers, I was informed by each and every one of them that I was fucked. I'm guessing that your friends situation was specific to your state.

Even years from now there will still be a few people who do actual work, and they won't be using tablets to do it.

Are you sure about that? My phone has more processing power than my desktop did just 8-10 years ago. In fact my phone is so fast there really is no reason why I shouldn't be able to dock it to a monitor with a bluetooth keyboard/mouse and get all of my work done on it. Then undock it and take it with me wherever I go.

I have a full office suite on my phone. It does exchange activesync. I have a multitude of HTML5 compatible web browsers capable of handling most of the web applications I work with.

I'm seeing less need for a desktop every day. Of course the people developing this idealized version of a smartphone will likely need powerful high end workstations for compilation and rendering etc but why would 90% of the population need all of the power a desktop offers? I'm even somewhat of a power user and even I see the writing on the wall. We've reached a state where "faster" has become "fast enough." I don't need more software bloat clogging up my system requiring hardware upgrades every year. A slimmed down, Android or iOS operating system will do everything I need on a day to day basis, will be more portable, have a longer lasting battery and in the case of Android, not lock me into a desktop ecosystem like Microsoft or Apple.

I think its ironic that there still isn't a decent activesync outlook replacement for Linux desktops but there are numerous ones for my phone. In some ways my phone is actually more functional than my desktop.

The amazon situation is far worse and more widespread. I actually left a review for a book, a rather scathing one pointing out all the of problems with it. It was a scholarly book, not fiction. The book had dozens of 5 star reviews but was riddled with so many errors as to make it 1) virtually unreadable and 2) horrendously incorrect even to first year students and pretty much anyone with a brain cell.

Within hours I had hundreds of "unhelpful" votes followed by a steady stream of profanity thrown at me on my comment. Amazon removed my comment for review 6 times before putting it back due to complaints by the author. Then 8 years later the "author" and I use that term loosely, wrote another book and stuck a link to my review inside it with 12 pages of profanity laced verbiage regarding how bad a person I was and what I did with my mother. The author then posted a link to his new book in my comment so that I would be aware of its existence.

I've since removed my review because I'm frankly sick of the notifications that it's been hammered again. As it turned out though, the majority of the reviews were the authors friends and various fake accounts. It's so widespread on amazon these days I dont even read reviews anymore.

The kicker is the book was a scholarly look at the peaceful proliferation of Buddhism in the world..........

Bankruptcy wont save him from court ordered restitution nor from unsecured liability. The scope of bankruptcy is actually pretty narrow. The public always seems to think "Ah fuck it I'll just file bankruptcy and 7 years later have a clean slate!" when the reality is very different. Typically people still have to pay back what they owe. Occasionally what they owe will be negotiated down so that they aren't living in a card board box but they can go decades before they get back on their feet and all the while some judge will be telling them how much they can spend on cereal and what type of car they are allowed to drive. It's not pretty.
