"Sausage fest" LOL. I haven't heard that since high school.
Anyway, it does have some blogging features, you just can't use them since it's so damn slow. It's more of a community blog though. I had high hopes for it but as it is it's just a piss poor system run by a pack of nazis censoring everything left and right. Send a message with the word "fuck" in it and find yourself put on an automatic "review" list where you can't message anyone or post anywhere until the mods have cleared you. It's pathetic.
They couldn't possibly make one worse than Orkut. Orkut is the slowest most worthless POS I have ever had the displeasure to use. Honestly. The Brazilian issue isn't even a big deal, or it wouldn't be if they provided ways of searching by region/language. As it is when you search for a community you get a list of 13,000 over half of which will be in portugese. You have no options for filtering it. Orkut is unusable during the day, it's literally that slow. It takes several minutes just to login. If google was smart they would drop the "affiliate" part and just cut it loose. The only thing I hate more than Orkut is probably LiveJournal.
If MS does this right I'll use it. It must be fast, foster a good community vibe and be user friendly. Oh yeah and all this "Must be invited to use our dog slow and shitty service" won't be tolerated either. MS is smart though, I doubt they'll be so dumb as to make it invite only.
"Sure, that may mean you don't get the job... is that really so bad?"
It's been 3 years since I could find a decent paying job that paid the bills. So yes, it's really that bad. If it was one or two companies doing this then you could just not sign and move on, however it's now industry standard and unavoidable anywhere within this country.
If there was some revolt where people didn't sign anymore, guess what, that's what off shoring is. I was replaced by an Indian at my last good paying job. I got stuck working at a grocery store and was again recently fired and replaced with an illegal Mexican. It's a problem.
Firstly, my iPod is one of the staples of my existence right now. I taking it running, biking, in the car, on trips. I love it.
Second, I fucking HATE cell phones. I hate people that sit and talk on their phones at the gym while peddling away at 1 mph on the excersice bike like some pee in the cedar chips hamster thinking they are actually "getting a workout" all the while fucking up everyone elses concentration with their senseless chatter.
I had a cell phone for years, my bosses used to love abusing it, calling to find out where this or that was rather than just getting off their fat asses and looking for it themselves. I didn't use the stupid thing for half the things I thought I would. It's an impersonal and fake way of having relations with people. Just get together and have fun, don't sit and gossip like a giggly little girl on it.
My iPod makes me wanna get out and DO something, like ride through the county park down the street or go to the gym and bust my ass on a 4 mile run.
I'm obviously biased but I hate the cell phone lifestyle. It's fake, lazy and pointless. I see people crashing cars on their phones, ruining movies not paying attention while walking into me at the grocery store. I see people in lines chatting away on the phone and all the people around them giving them glares like they're irritating everyone around them. Like so many fads before, these little gadgets have turned the zombified idiots of our culture into the lemmings we all knew they could be.
The last thing I want is "convergence". I like being able to buy an iPod and JUST have it be an iPod. If I wanted a cell phone I would JUST want a cell phone. If I wanted a camera I would JUST buy a camera. Cell phones right now are nothing but bloated feature nightmares, most of which people do not use or care about. I don't need an mp3 player that comes with a 50$ a month cellphone bill plus text messaging at 15 cents a message.
Well if you can't grasp basic english and grammar how do you expect to argue your point? Further, I have seen their ads and yet again I ask, where is your proof of lying? You have none which is my point. You're just another lame Apple basher with no basic sense of reason. By all means continue, you and people like you so full of hate and stupidity are why Apple is making a come back. You show your true colors every time you start your rabid tirades making people curious about the other side. So for that I'll simply thank you and say good day sir.
Hey genius, this isn't about 1989, if you haven't noticed it's 2004. Get the fuck over it already. Don't bother replying to me again, you just made the foes list.
liers? I assume you mean liars, which I would like some proof of. I have the iPod box next to me with all docs, it looks pretty clear to me as laid out in the license agreement. I never saw an ad from apple saying the iPod would play ogg or any of the other formats people here complain about. They are in fact different since they make the hardware and software and provide a supierior experience over MS and all others. So where is the lie here or are you just grand standing for the ignorant masses? I see no lie from Apple, they've never pretended to be something else, if you got that impression it's your own fault for not being educated ont he subject. Don't be mad at apple for your ignorance.
Every company tries to lock in, that's what companies do. Your "what if's" are utterly devoid of fact and ignore reality entirely. "What if" doesn't mean shit.
If you don't use the law on the books the law will become irrelevant, whether you agree with it or not doesn't matter. Congress agrees with it, as do most lawyers, they WILL use the law on the books. Get over it.
The difference is you aren't locked in to Apple. You can safely ignore the company entirely and use alternatives. I don't know anyone that isn't locked into using an MS product of one kind or another right now.
"Now, I will admit that there's something slightly unsettling about a government giving official coverage to particular businesses"
Ever seen a bulletin board at a public library? Been to a city hall anywhere? They have tons of info on local business. Part of local governments job these days is promoting the local business community for sake of tourism and economic growth. It's nothing new or strange.
There was a moment where a small pack of Germans tried to knock him off his bike. It was during one of the time trials.
What I'd like to know is, is this anti-American sentiment or is this done to most riders out there? In baseball players are harassed all the time, spit at, things thrown at them. Football the same. Basketball is a nightmare. This is all considered normal. What worries me is if this is out of the ordinary for cycling and specifically targeted at Lance. If it is then I'm glad Lance is sticking it to the fuckers.
"Your figures are flat-out wrong, on all counts. The U.S. population was approximately 130 million during the WW 2 years; it's now around 285 million people, not even close to the 400 million you claim."
The below link shows 293+ million, not including illegal immigrants and a huge population of our older generation who pre-date recorded births. The number is less than 400 but it's way way above 300. As for my less than 200 million estimate, 130 is obviously less than 200, so I fail to see where my numbers are wrong.
Nice try with your "facts". You're just a screaming whinny lefty trying to justify his own bullshit. Like I said, nice try.
"So yes, seeing as how we aren't at war with anyone except for Iraq (and remember, Bush said that war apparently ended some 800 U.S. dead ago - and it wasn't a declared war either), our army is far larger than it should be DURING PEACETIME."
1) Congress did declare war. 2) The military is about more than dealing with "right now" they are about dealing with "tomorrow" as well. Ever hear of North Korea? How about Iran? Cuba? North Africa?
You're so mixed up it's amazing you can think at all. By all means continue your parade of rationalization, the country is being run and will continue to be I might add, by far more able folks than you. Don't worry, when trouble comes we'll defend even a trolling little flamebait artists like yourself. You don't even have to thank us for it, we know a little turd like you wouldn't anyway. Wouldn't soil your boots by getting off your soap box.
"In defense of NASA, however, it really IS rocket science. NASA is expensive, but the Russians really aren't doing much. They're doing it cheaper by not doing much at all. (Please correct me if I'm wrong, but the current Russian space program is a shadow of its former self, to the point where they fly billionaires onto the ISS for cab fare. The budget struggles at their central Asian launch facility are sadly legendary.)"
There is more to it than that. They do have some brilliant people and their program is geared toward minimalism. For instance our shuttle was designed with the intent of going up once a month, so it was built large with tons of capacity, very little of which gets used. They should have been retired a long time ago but haven't because so much was invested in them that hasn't paid off yet that no one will justify the new expense.
"I can see where you're coming from, but isn't the current exploration of Mars pretty darn exciting? We haven't landed any naked apes on moons or other planets lately, but it could be strongly argued that robots are far better suited (and cheaper) for the task than humans anyway."
Yes it is, my problem is that what we learn from Mars doesn't feed my kids, pay off my credit cards or help me finish my degree in anyway. Thanks to the dot com bubble bursting I haven't had a decent job in almost 3 years, I owe 30k to the government in taxes thanks to being a contractor to try and make ends meet and I can't afford to go to school to train for a new career. Millions are like me right now, Mars is pretty darn low on our list of priorities.
"At least you're one of the people who actually understand and consider the trade-offs involved. I personally disagree - I'd rather see NASA funded - but it's always reassuring when people actually weigh the consequences and decide according to their priorities, rather than invoke some form of economic voodoo or political dogma."
If times were better I would have no problem supporting NASA, I'd probably feel very much like you do. But when reality hits it hits real hard. It's hard looking at the stars when you're in my position.
Better from NASA than my kids college fund. Better NASA than my parents social security. Better NASA than my own retirement money. Perhaps if the government, Congress inparticular hadn't spent like drunken sailors during the last decade these things wouldn't be necessary. Personally I couldn't give a rats ass less about Mars, my life is hear on Earth and here on Earth I have uses for MY OWN money.
Oversized military? We have approximately 1.2 million service people, in WWII we had we had close to 20 million. Weigh that against the population at the time being less than 200 million and it being close to 400 million now and you would have to be blind, stupid and arrogant to believe the military hasn't been cut to high heaven over the last 50 years. North Korea has 5 times as many military personel as we do, even Saddam had more people on the ground than us. The military has been the liberals whipping boy since Vietnam, so don't gimem this "The military is oversized" BS.
Cuts aren't needed as badly as you think. That 7.2 trillion is a drop in the bucket when weighed against future economic growth. The government will "grow out" of that as more people enter the work place (all those graduates will eventually find jobs) and start paying taxes. The economy is growing, meaning more money comes in. People were saying these things and freaking out just like this when Reagan passed his tax cuts and less than ten years later the debt was gone, grown out of by the huge economic boom they inspired. It's just not a big deal, it really isn't.
Well honestly, NASA is one of the most wasteful organizations I have ever seen. The Russians are doing it for far cheaper than we are, even the Europeon space organization is. Hell the private sector is now involved and doing it for far less.
I love the people at NASA and appreciate everything they have done, but NASA is still a government organization and as such is extremely wasteful by nature. We just aren't getting the same type of benefits from NASA that we once did, it's stagnant and dull. I wish them luck but I'd rather keep my tax money and spend it on my kids college fund, sorry.
You made no points whatsoever. He's the richest senator in history, it doesn't matter when he married her, she has consistently backed his campaigns ever since. Your point is moot. He hasn't worked a day since leaving the military and has instead opted to marry rich woman after rich woman and be a career politician.
Kerry served, yes this is true. He also awarded HIMSELF the purple heart for a small cut on his thumb. Everyone he served with has come out AGAINST him as a moral coward and despicable human being. And despite your FUD Bush not only showed up contrary to the since RETRACTED allegations by the boston globe, but he's been praised repeatedly by his supieriors who have since retired as being one of the most talented pilots they served with.
Sorry I shouldn't let facts get in the way of a good argument but I couldn't help myself.
So nice try defending the creep, it failed of course, miserably.
Apple has 5 billion dollars in the bank, makes computers for a population of every country on Earth and earns billions every year and you don't think Apple is big business? I'd mod you -10 STUPID actually.

"does Jobs have a successor?"
If not I'll gladly take on that responsibility.
What next, playing your stereo at a party at a friends house will be illegal? What the hell is the world coming to?
