The article said 11 million pounds not dollars. That comes out to over 20 million dollars i think.

  2. Can't Think of Title on "L33T" Speak Invades Schools · · Score: 1

Hahaha that's great, like honestly that's just funny.

I will admit that I have accidently written "skool" on a paper on more than one occasion, but i always catch it almost right away. I catch it most of the time thanks to Word Spellcheck underlining, but i've written it out with a pen too. It's just a habit that people develope, as is people spend more time typing to friends online than they do writing novels and essays.

As has been said a couple of times it's not 1337 speak it's just internet short hand. Who really cares what the kids are doing, like seriously, this isn't the first time this has happened. Words like "can't, and won't" came about from other words because people are lazy. It's not some huge flaw of human nature, it's just common sense. In this case though the common sense is blurred as there is a downside to the lazyness, that downside being more confusing writing.

Words may end up evolving, there's no use in whining about it. If you like one way use it. If you like another way use it. Whichever path you choose to venture down be aware of consequences that people won't understand you, or will think you're an idiot. And if you fall victim to the consequences, live up to it don't just say it's a habit you can't break, cause then you're just a dumbass.

  3. Maybe Luck on RoadRunner Blocking Use of Kazaa · · Score: 1

Well i wish that my ISP would block KaZaa ports. I don't care about the other P2P programs but i'm really not liking the idea of an attack on KaZaa's stupid many million user network knocking out my cable provider. Granted i'm really paranoid and don't like the idea of my cable company imposing anymore of their near monopoly privilages. I figure what they should be concentrating their efforts on is getting rid of popups and spam, there's some bandwidth for them, all the java and pictures coming through just so i can click close button, that's just waisting their bandwidth 5K at a time.

  5. but that's only 1 of 4 axes on Time Travel · · Score: 1

Lets say you make a machine that can travel in time, you still have to make it travel through the 3 physical axes too. Say i want to go 1/2 a year back in time and i get into a stationary machine that will do it for me... i'm going to end up with my lungs exploding through my chest as i watch the earth orbit on the other side of the sun. The only real way to do this is to make the machine into a space craft of some sort and take it into space to do the traveling, then travel only in 1 year increments and hope the sun hasn't pulled the earth too far out of your way on it's orbit of the Galaxy. Then you also have to take into account any other matter that may be there, such as an asteroid, even if it's only a few centimeters diameter you could materialize with it in your brain. There are still a lot of problems facing time travel, dangers to ones own person still pale in comparison to what someone could do with a little splash in the primordial ooze. Time travel is a very stupid idea to bring about in a society filled with murders and wars.

  6. yes and no on Time Travel · · Score: 2, Interesting

Yes time travel into the future is possible, by aproaching the speed of light. However once at the speed of light time stops. This leads to the theory that if you go past the speed of light you will actually arrive at your destination before you left (negative velocities) and that is basically travelling back in time. Breaching the speed of light is the obsticle to be passed by in this instance. So yes you can go forward in time, but you can also go backwards in time, in theory... but since no one has done either it's all theory anyway. As for the why haven't people come back in time to right the wrongs, you can't predict what changing the past could do. Think about it, if you change the past so that something bad never happend, then in the future the bad thing never happend, so there's no point in going back and changing it, but if you don't go back and change it then the past isn't changed. For that reason it's probably illegal to time travel without certain licensing and training to stay inconspicuous. Maybe it never happens at all, or maybe the people inventing time machines realised what type of a weapon they are unleashing on the world and stopped trying to make their machine.

  7. maybe, but maybe not on Time Travel · · Score: 1

You can only really encourage that to a point, i mean this guy was interested in time travel and then became a physicist, found a book and developed a theory. It's not like he just said "i want to go back in time and i'm going to make a machine to do it" on a street corner downtown and someone handed him a book. This guy worked hard and earned a lot of respect by becoming a professor, then he expanded on his knowledge. If this gets as much press as i think it's going to, then people are still going to call him crazy, and they will keep calling him crazy until he proves it works.

  8. terrible idea on GPS Wristwatch for Kids · · Score: 1

The only way that this would be of any use was if you didn't have to pay the 35$ a month. Cause that is like assuming that you constantly want to keep track of someone. Maybe if you shackeld this to your kid and then when tehy got lost, you enabled the shackle remotely from the main unit that's going to be doing the tracking. That way you don't have to pay 35$ a month but if your kid runs away or gets lost you can still find it.

  10. Console = high end Mac with software support on O'Reilly Showcases PS2 Linux Gear · · Score: 1

Doesn't giving a console an O/S and all the functions of a PC completely negate the point of the console in the first place. This is just a step in the direction of the mac, the way i see it the PS2 is just a high quality mac that doesn't have a monitor hardwired to it. Consoles have no upgradability, mac... same thing. The only thing that is really going to seperate consoles from PC's soon is the fact that they aren't upgradable, and they are more stable because programmers only have to code for one piece of hardware. But already bariers like that are breaking down, i mean they already have seperated speaker plugs to take advantage of 3D sound, they have the intranet port, keyboard and mice. Eventually it will just evolve into a full out upgradable PC and all of the people that like consoles cause of their simplicity will either riot in outrage or be in denial that it's of equal complexity as a PC but less cost effective.

I really don't think anything would convince me to ever buy a Mac. They are always claiming to be twice as fast as equivelent PC processors but if you look at the notes to it it's always only in a grafic app like Photoshop. The whole 1 button thing makes me sick. There's no upgradability, and everything loox like a hippy made it. Did anyone else almost throw up at the site of the WinXP default GUI cause it was like you were using a mac. User Friendly style is what Macs seem to be all about but they still leave everything all inconvenient. Scroll bars that don't even adjust themselves to the distance in the window to scroll. And software everything, special>>eject CD special >> eject disc. Special >> give me a second mouse button cause i want to see the properties for this stupid file that doesn't even have file extensions... invalid operation. Apple i shake my fist at thee, don't try to infringe on the PC market with your stupid Hippy cases and GUI's.
