Support contracts would seem to be a good way to gauge enterprise use and give some idea where the money^h^h^h^h^h I mean where people were putting their attention, and 'voting' in a way for better future releases. Support experience should ideally trickle back into new releases.
Is the worm the rumour, and can we track it through google zeitergeist and/or a dummy worm exe/code/honeynet that script kiddies (sort of like myself allegedly) might not realise is not the real thing?
Representation is needed in both the source of the work and where the work is done, international contract enforcement between non multinationals is difficult, so once an arrangement has been established there is a large barrier to expanding into new legal and business practice terrirories, until the current resource has been over utilised.
Ireland may be an example of a tapped out resource as it is so small, and already has so many multinationals getting work done here. India and China are not overly utilised, tapped out resources.
Indians competing with each other and Chinese competing with each other will keep wages down for all but the most skilled and experienced Chinese and Indian, there is no pressing reason to go outside these huge developing buckets of cheap labour. I am trying to facilitate offshore outsourcing to Belarus and Russia, from Ireland, but the Irish companies or divisions of American companies in Ireland are not interested enough - yet.
Is there scope in the market for a non sex based matchmaking service, a 'FindPeer' service to encourage one on one peer (or coach or mentor) based short relationships? I did a rough spec and wiki page on such a service but at 10 hits from google in 4 months maybe it is not worth more investigation without more marketing!
Most newsgroups and slashdot items seldom lead to interesting one on one discussion except perhaps for aggressive self opinionated 'experts' (allegedly).
FYI I may have time for some one on one discussion but not necessarily to join an open source programming project, and the local linux group does not seem approachable enough for this purpose. Also the peer development may not necessarily be in the computing field.

Should(do other) people moderate their own weblogs?
I have almost a blog at http://www.geocities.com/totierne/mylog.txt or http://www.geocities.com/totierne/Breakdown.html . For the last 6 months I have been giving a moderation score to each entry, I found I can moderate my entry myself when I have written it, but not when I start to write. The moderation has been verified by my one long suffering reader (my sister).
Is this a useful idea that should spread? I am posting this too late to get moderate slashdot moderation so I will estimate score 1 and a 10% chance of a reply.
I Am Not An American, and if America chooses to kill 100,000 people or more this time I prefer to have made a stand to make a better stand next time. If the US chooses to use its proxys to reach me for attempting to deconstruct their weapons of mass destruction, go ahead shoot me.
This is the passive majority view here, and I am just a want-to-be activist. The rabid reaction just shows how out of touch America is with free speech etc. I could couch my words in meally mouthed terms like 'some Americans' or the 'American government', but why should I speak oddly for war mungerers or their apologists?

Is there an equivalent small reservoir of java programs that do much the same thing, ie a bit of regex, find and pipeing? Whenever I have a small problem to solve that can be scripted I can never be bothered to gear up a java program 'from scratch' so I never build up a small set of java programs to do the job.
I feel I thrash so much between techniques, I should stick to java where possible, as this is the closest to one size fits all.
Hey I work in migration so the same goes from moving, or switching back and forth, between different languages, so equivalent hello regexp, find and pipe in shell (csh, bash, ksh),c, perl, msdos batch files, java, python would make a good entry in a migrationdotcom site. This is currently a very small hint at what a database migration community site might look at, but is so light on implementation it could go any where, but most likely nowhere...
