IIRC, they also put the video code into the inner bowels of the kernel, in order to make everything 'feel' faster. the result of which is the vid. updates having such a high priority that moving the mouse will temporarily halt all background processes, so that the cursor will update more smoothly.

argh! i'd almost forgotten about those... the few times i've been forced to mess with NT boxes (more than i'd like to admit, though) i've always done whatever possible to avoid those abominations.
hrm... that's like 40 MegaJolts! excellent! so if i usually drink 4 in 5 min. (gram o' vit. Caf) that should (in theory) only take about 50 min. to ingest! or of course, that would be about 50 extra-stength vivarin... i knew a guy who took about 14 at once once. knew...
but i'll be wearing my Star Trek: Voyager T-shirt, and every time jar jar (kill jar jar) is on screen i'll at least think (and probably at least once, say) "you're less entertaining than keanu reeves"
scalability isn't really the ability to cluster. what these drones mean when they say scalability is the ability to improve the performance of one machine by throwing more and more processors into it. linux's ability to run on eight processors is not touted as a main feature for a reason. OTOH, i'm not sure i've ever heard of a more than 4-way p2 box, and i'm not sure how many other platforms SCO runs on...
iirc, the MiniGL (which gets better performance in exchange for only supporting a fraction of the total OpenGL calls) for 3dfx isn't enough for what carmack wants for q3a, so the benifits of win3dfxGL over mesa aren't that great when both have full(er) GL support.
It's only about a year or two before prozac's patent becomes public-domain or whatever it is that lets other companies make generic prozac, which is basicly as close as drugs can get to open-source
sort of... an SMP box becomes SMP when the SMP bios is initialized by the OS during the boot-up process. This has to happen on every boot, so you'd have no problem in the config suggested, at least as long as you power off between boots. If you just C-A-D'ed, you may leave the bios in SMP mode and may confuse win9x. other than that, i don't think there'd be any real problem.
stop calling him an enemy of the state, that way he thinks he's some kind of 'k3w|_ revolutionary' rather than just another kid who won't go to the trouble of mowing the lawn/whatever he needs to do to get the money for the game
that's what I thought. got too pissed at rpm & redhat's wierd way of installing things. (where's xdm?) i know they have thier reasons, but it's just a matter of taste, really.

the voodoo3 6-trillion or whatever supposedly has hardware dvd encoding built in. and at only twice as much as i'd be willing to pay for it, too.
i'm sure he'll hear about it from his already- "excited" lawyers.

i'm paying attention to you...

as did HotJava1.1.5, with blackdown's jdk1.1.7v1a
they could be doing 3d graphics in 3dsmax or maya... which really does need all the power you can throw at it.
