Content from the events cost $$$ so the TV networks pad the coverage out with cheap human interest crap and trolling. Its been this way for decades. We all hate it and it will never change given the current economic model for broadcast coverage of the Olympic Games.
Modified for clarity.
I feel your pain.
Our choices include:
Record the broadcast and fast-forward through the offensive coverage.
Attend the games and watch what you want.
Purchase the broadcast rights and broadcast only what you see fit.
Complain until the owners of the broadcast rights see it your way.
These are listed in order of increasing probability of not ever happening.

Take any OS and install it with an easily obtainable root password and guess what? What could the manufacturers have been thinking that makes any kind of sense?
There is a reason that school systems nationwide adopted zero tolerance approaches: school administrators are not suited to making non-authoritarian, intelligent decisions. Zero tolerance means that no thinking need be involved and anyone who can follow a simple set of rules can be a school administrator.
Once you have a cadre of non-intelligent authoritarian administrators, you can easily see how school management eventually evolves. It's all about authority, that authority demands respect and any thought or whim or mood of that authority must be 'respected'. Woe to the student that disrespects that authority. They will crush you like the bug you are and you will be grateful to them for it.
I'm not saying that all school administrators are like that, just most of them. They care more about perpetuating the system, achieving bogus test performance awards and preserving their pension that they do about students. That is, unless those students annoy them.
Mandriva 2010 offers one of the best implementations of either the KDE (the default) or GNOME desktops. The Mandriva Control Center provides an easy central location to configure many things, but the defaults are very user-friendly. Mandriva also offers one of the best ranges of hardware compatibility and auto-configuration I've seen. Plus, adding the PLF repositories at http://easyurpmi.zarb.org/ permits a full multimedia experience if that's what you want.
One caution, do not install from the Live CD because they did bork those default choices because of the limited space. Also, don't waste your money on the PowerPack Edition as you can add the full repositories via PLF above (sans the 3rd-party apps the PowerPack provides access to).
One thing I've learned in my life, given the chance, many will choose to do the wrong thing.
And I've learned that choosing "the wrong thing" frequently leads to no deleterious effects, so it's not necessary to catch and severely punish every instance of "the wrong thing"; most all of it is self-correcting over time.
Note that the school provided evil Apple laptops. Could have worked with evil Microsoft laptops, too.In this case, had they provided laptops with Linux, the webcam hardware support would have been so broken, there would never have been this problem in the first place.
There was an article in the Wednesday Virginian-Pilot about an IT problem like this in Virginia Beach, but not Norfolk. BTW, it was VB that was caught in a major audit over MS licenses and wasted my tax money on re-buying additional licenses.
Nothing in this news story is inaccurate, but to make it a point to say that Windows XP is incompatible with no mention of Vista and 7 being perfectly compatible should be an embarrassment of journalistic integrity.
You are correct. It is a non-issue because nobody uses WindowsXP anymore and there are no legacy systems running it. Nor will there ever be a need to use a new drive in a WindowsXP stsem since there are no WindowsXP systems in use. You are correct.
States rights seem to be popular on this board. I'm not sure why-- I'm not particularly inclined to trust "those idiots down in Richmond" over "those idiots down in Washington." But perhaps the states could fill a void and start up space exploration programs of their own.
But if we can keep "those idiots down in [insert your state capitol here]" and "those idiots down in Washington" at each others' throats, we might be able to accomplish something while they are distracted. You can't fight 'em, but you can get 'em to fight each other.
Doesn't matter if the new approach represents a better use of funds, PORK is at stake. Fighting for PORK is the work of True Patriots. Taking PORK away is the work of Godless Commie Terrorists. Please think of the Children. The CHILDREN!
Re-writing history to inure a political viewpoint? This is nothing new. At least these folks are being honest about their goals; that's a refreshing approach for narrow-minded zealots.
fixed that for ya
Nice sentiment, but apparently only those particular narrow-minded zealots are honest. It's almost impossible to find other examples of honesty (as well as integrity) in narrow-minded zealots. That's what gives narrow-minded zealotry such a bad name.
The problem is that you are the exception to the rule, most people believe what ever they are told and that is how narrow-minded zealots propagate. I am arguing that people would be less likely to blindly accept things if our educational practices were to present neutral pros and cons on many view points and have people decide for themselves.
The problem is that this approach is not only unwieldly, but certain to confuse "most people" who only want to know if it will be on the test.
The responsibilty to educate still reside with the parents. They should always supplement formal education (and even unintentionally, they do). Sadly, "most people" are not up to the task and the results we have are the consequences.
Have creation theories, then they need to have several others for context.
In the beginning there was an empty darkness. The only thing in this void was Nyx, a bird with black wings. With the wind she laid a golden egg and for ages she sat upon this egg.
There's a slightly different interpretation in that she broke wind, resulting in the smelly mess we have now. Arguably, this interpretation is more consistent with reality, so it's "more better" than your naive beliefs, Nyx-less heathen.
If one is not able to build faith in a child, then ones options are limited.
When did building religious faith become the responsibilty of the State? When did it cease being the sole responsibility of the parents?
And the parents do not need to use the State to enforce their beliefs and do not need to shield the child from the un-believing world, but should help the child grow in their faith and explain the world to them. Knowlege is no enemy; ignorance is. After all, God knows everything and He still believes.

You could run IE6 in a VM.
You're only "chained" because you don't care.
IE6 runs great in WINE . . .

Like most federal government, NASA needs a reboot,
Of course, since it worked for Start Trek, it will work for NASA. Why didn't we see that when we saw the movie?

Schools should teach our kids science and facts, not become basic training camps for the Ku Klux Klan.
Plus basic grammar and spelling so they don't make all those who mock religion look foolish by association.
you refer to people as "dumbass Texans".
I believe he meant "Dumas, Texas".

James Loewen's books, are some of the best that I ever read. Lies my Teacher Told Me
Excellent book. I learned two things from it.
1. If you really want to know about history, you should examine the primary sources of information yourself because:
2. All facts are interpreted by somebody to become what we call "history" and frequently, they distort the facts to achieve some goal.
