  1. Re:Now is the time ot buy the stock on WorldCom to File for Chapter 11 Protection · · Score: 2

You are assuming that the restructuring plan won't fail. That is a big gamble. Worldcom's restructuring could fail, and it could still go away. If that happens, the stock is worthless paper, much like the "Bernie Flickers" they plan to start giving to their employees, instead of US currency.

  2. Re:Hmm on Research: File Traders And Music Purchasing · · Score: 2

Naturally, a 13 year old would listen to Eminem. A prefabricated product of the industry like him might be willing to preach some stodgy record executive's party line to kids, but that would kill his rebel, bad boy image that angers parents, and makes him look so cool to teens. He would help himself more be encouraging file traders. An industry that wants to sell things to kids who don't even have jobs for 20 bucks each is no better than the dope dealer on the street corner. Boycott the recording Industry. As Axl Rose said in the song, Shotgun Blues about a record executive, "and while you're ripping off children, somebody's F**king your wife." Record executives, and the RIAA are the real pirates.

"If the record labels make a concerted effort to get their artists to educate the public about how downloading takes money directly out of the artists' pockets, things may change." This quote tells it all. The recording labels view artists as a commodity they own, like slaves. They tell artists, "I made you a star, and I can take it away!" What nonsense! They view music fans as a commodity as well. Boycott the recording industry. Don't buy CDs. We, the fans decide who is and isn't a star. The RIAA and record executives are the real pirates.

Our Congressmen and Senators need to hear from us. They don't read Slashdot, so us preching only to each other does no good. The best way to get their attention is with a fax. Unlike e-mail, a fax is tangible, and not going to just be killed by a spam filter, or easily ignored. Unlike snail mail, fax gets there quickly. Want your Congressmen and Senators to hear your thoughts? Fax them.

The broadcasting and recording industries have both stopped giving us any music worth listening to, and now are trying to push congress in opposite directions. It's a shame congress listens to either of them. If Clear channel, and the big recording labels end up destroying each other, it might be a victory for music fans. My point is that they should have done a needle exchange, or at least given instructions for sanitizing needles with bleach and/or rubbing alcohol. There were already several free condom programs for anyone who wanted them. The program ignored the real problem with IV drug use, and was just a photo op for a grandstanding politician.

  13. There are worse problems on Search Engines Take Their Time Disclosing Paid Links · · Score: 2

It's nice that the FTC mandated distinguishing paid results from metasearches, but the worst problems with search engines are phony metatags. Frequently searching for CDs, MP3, Music, or anything other than porn brings back a porn site at the top of results. It's deception. I could mention an offender which I got delisted by writing letters, but that would only give them free advertising. The FTC should treat use of phony metatags an act of fraud, and respond accordingly.

Anybody who is angry about Roadrunner blocking their p2p file sharing should cancel their sevice, and tell them why. If no other high speed service is available, groups of former subscribers could get together, and start a Motorola Canopy Wirelss ISP of their own. Slashdot posted a story about those a while back. No one should continue to do business with a company that won't give them what they are paying for. Pull the plug.
