Remind me once again, who declared war on who first? I think you'll find that Germany declared war on the US first. And Germany was the nation that started the bombings of civilian targets with their campaign on London.
I was thinking the exact same thing when they first mentioned this on CNN. You would think that they would have some sort of way figured out to find where the leak is occuring. I wonder if the leak is big enough to 'smoke it out' with some sort of hazing gas material.

It works quite nicely, holds everything (loads of books and cables and my digital camera too, along with my laptop)
Moving jobs offshore is actually GOOD for the economy. Most of these jobs transferred to other countries are old-school technologies, which opens up space for companies to use the workers for newer technologies. Also, the offshore jobs create offshore wealth which has a demand for American products..
see how it all works.....
would be one which goes off everytime NASA decides to waste more of our money on a fleet of shuttles whos time has come and gone.
Can we please stop wasting money on this crap.
When I have a power failure and my system comes back up (I'm running SuSE 8.1 with reiser) I get notices that truncations have been made. Does this mean that files have been deleted?
Yeah, right, sure... Would the star trek geeks in the audience please quit smoking pot and posting these articles.
Somehow I don't see a moon trip when we cannot even find the funding to replace the shuttle.
And has everyone forgotten that we did this already roughly 30 years ago, and all we found were some useless rocks.
I could get something better than cable or dsl. I'd be more than happy to ditch my landline for a cell, but cable modems suck (plus they usually block port 80 which means I can't run my server), and DSL is really the only alternative for high speed internet.
Case AGAINST The moon...
$$$ MONEY $$$
Until we can start funding life down here, we need to avoid funding the lack of life in the stars. There is no great need to go to the moon (been there, did that, got some useless museum rocks).
Now, back to your normally scheduled life on/.
as a part time personal trainer, I have seen numerous VICTIMS of the Atkins diet.
1) each and evey one has lost "weight", yet it is mostly water weight since carbohydrates bond 4g of water to each gram of carb... no glycogen in the muscles (carbs) = less water in the body = less "weight"
2) next you have the loss of muscle mass since a body without carbs feeds off of the next availiable source... and it's not fat. So they then lose muscle "weight" which leaves them with a lower metabolism, since muscle burns roughy 50 calories per pound of muscle daily at rest. Less muscle = less ability to burn those calories = easier to regain fat.
3) noone has yet to do any long term studies on the followers of low carb / atkins dieters since it's next to impossible to find a long term follower. Yet what I do find is alot of people who lost weight while doing atkins, ad then each and every one has regained it all back + extra (see above how loss of muscle makes it harder to keep fat off)
4) conclusion - learn how to eat right, ditch the processed garbage, tv dinners, sodas, fast food, along with all of your excuses as to why you can't go without these crappy foods. Learn that building muscle keeps you young and keeps you fit and thin. Learn that there are no shortcuts to losing weight. You need to change your lifestyle for the long run, not just for a few weeks to lose a dress/pant size.
5) now step away from your PC, turn off your TV, and actually go outside.
yet another thing pronounced dead on/. well before its time.
The PDA is not dead. It has simply evolved. Now can we all go back to real articles and stop pronouncing things dead?
True, but maybe we need to add another category to the/. homepage where any and all vaporware ideas are placed so that it's easier to dig through. Digging though multiple journals isn't really an effective way to search for ideas.
report on every bit of Vaporware that emerges? Ideas for replacements for X are nice, and I appreciate the efforts to improve *nix in any way. But I's rather hear about something with a bit of 'meat' to it instead of yet another pipe dream.
Maybe we need a Slashdot forum where we are able to post daily thoughts that cross our minds that others may be able to use to spark ideas for new and better applications/OS's, etc...
I don't need to be reminded of what a Pinto looks like.
One OS is fine for me, I don't need Windoze in the background at all. When I initially made the switch a few years ago I promised myself that I would never switch back... and years later I still do not feel the need to use Windows for anything. All my Linux boxes work fine...without Microsoft bogging it down.
BeOS was a great opsys, it had alot of potential. But I honestly believe that it's lost its chance to be much more than a curosity item. Sad too. I really enjoyed using it awhile back.
Now, hopefully, the creative effort put into BeOS can be better applied to Linux.
codeweavers already ported office to Linux via their crossover plugin. But then again ,who cares? I'm much happier with OpenOffice
I can picture it now.... little green men wondering what a BSOD is.
Um... yes they did: http://www.law.ou.edu/hist/germwar.html (guess you may want to buy a history book that comes without pop-ups)

step 1) take photos of mars step 2) replace colors to make things appear red step 3) ? step 4) make lots of money.

Where's that Verizon "Can You Hear me Now" guy when we need him :)

I think she hit the wall at 21, the last few years have just been a death march.

Unfortunately we dont have RR here. Only Adelphia. I had their service for about a month before I got tired of all the crashes of their system.

Wake up. Noone, including the government is interested in watching your boring life 24/7. Quit being so friggin paranoid. You are not that important.

Is it possible to run this under VICE and still get broadband connectivity (DSL)?
