  1. What we did for awards shows. on MTV Movie Awards Webpage Pull a Lone Gunman · · Score: 1
I am a developer for a major online music/movie retailer and we would literally watch the awards shows and update the pages (just by doing db update statements) when the winners were announced. Then we'd clear the page's cache and voila!

It is ludicrous that MTV would screw this up! I know it was prerecorded and the results had been announced elsewhere but jeesus!

I replied to the post where he said: "Actually, FM radio is line of sight." Which is not quite so technical. My definition of lin-of-sight is more in line with this post: Not by a long shot

man, if 802.11b is already out of control, this is just going to be rediculous. So much data flying through the air. I just need an antenna, a NLOS NIC and a nice packet sniffer. I could rule the world!

Wow, now I can blow the dust off of my Antron-99 and 40 foot mast. And during the day, I may be even able to lower my routes with skip!

  8. Yoda on Digital Tape on D-VHS to Hit The Market This Week · · Score: 1

Tape leads to stretching, stretching leads to degredation, degredation leads to blocky artifacts, blocky artifacts lead to nothing. At least with analog tape, when it wears you still have some semblance of a picture. I think my JVC Digital Camcorder is great but I am still looking for a good way to store that digital video somewhere that's cheap and NOT tape. I think the next big format will be hard drives. Just swap it in to the bay and watch amazingly high quality digital video and sound. Cost? $80 per movie and eventually lower. These things are getting so cheap, they are almost disposable.

I'd just like to see them report numbers of tickets sold, rather than dollars. I'm pretty sure it's simpler since we don't have to "adjust" anything over time. I guess the hype machine out there would never do this since nothing could even come close to "Gone With the Wind."

I'd don't feel like I was twisting anything. I am not "exposing" myself for fame and fortune. Most people comment on news and other's comments. It's called a discussion. Also, most sigs aren't ads so I choose to not turn them off because they can be amusing. Yours certainly was to me.
