    Would it be safe to say that there an infinite amount of [pattern1]s in a even more infinite amount of all real numbers? There are an infinite amount of odds, evens, there are an infinite amount of primes in a large enough set of numbers. Why would twin primes be any different, in a large enough set of numbers(gazillions :)), ofcourse there are gonna be a lot of them!

    how anal must a robot be? If i buy the autodriver 8000 that drives my car for me, would it be breaking law number one by driving my SUV that pumps gases into the air? That dirty air, ofcourse, could cause health problems down the road.

    Have you any idea the state of voice recognition? Not to mention that it would be at a fair distance away, and you would be scared as shit with a friggin robot coming at you. Yelling "Sacramento" as loud as you can as a robot comes charging at you and hoping it recognizes the word... sounds like fun to me.

    Project Gutenberg is a project that published works that have expired their copyright. Books by Twain and Poe, that have been published for well over a century, and are no longer copywritten, are freely available, and downloadable off of the Gutenberg site. Several thousand works, from Shakespeare to... more Shakespeare to all types of classics from the 19th century are all at the site. Searching for 'Project Gutenberg' on Kazaa also brings up many results. These text's are great for putting on a PDA too.

    Note: Just so you know, the true Gutenberg texts have several pages at the beginning of each document as something of both a status on the project and a license, it is fairly long, but worth it.

    Why is the parent modded up? Redhat has given a clear numbering system, and the only reason the next release is gonna be 9.0 instead of 8.1 is becuase they are FOLLOWING the numbering system that they HAVE ALWAYS HAD.

    Hint: whenever a release break compatibility with a prior release, it gets a x.0. 9.0 is going to break compat. so they make it 9.0

    Wait one minute. Redhat has the 'release early, release often' policy for general desktop linux. What makes Redhat 8 stop working for you? All Redhat is doing is saying:

    "Hey, we have this new software, and since it is neat and cool, we want to make it part of our distro so the kids who download the .iso FOR FREE can enjoy the cool new feature, sadly, this feature/package/update breaks compatibility, so it has to be a 9.0 rather than 8.1."

    Redhat is giving you the best of what they have (for free, mind you) and just because it breaks compatibility, you are gonna moan and complain that you they are releasing it.

    Apple has superb Java support.org as a selling point to conivnce apple? They will get OO.o without a partnership, I am sure Sun has better software to convince apple to partner with them.

    My answer? Simple; most people are convinced apple is going to have to jump platforms(ibm ppc970), but instead of jumping to one platform, apple should jump to several, at once. I am speaking of the fat binaries Jobs used at NeXTSTEP. He supported 4 platforms at once, and so can apple. :)

    15 years? HA! Try 50, at best. And that is with MAJOR corporations trying like hell to put the product to market. Have you ever talked to an ALICE bot? That is suppose to be a fairly advanced bot/AI program, and you can stump it like mad, without even trying! Now try and feed it the text of a book and have it understand what the hell is going on?! Reading a classic novel, where inferences have to be made and many MAJOR actions are implied, but not directly talked about, the computer would have to have an AI text/parser several generations more advanced than the (still very impressive) likes of ALICe or Zork.

    Not to mention the realtime 3d mapping... the processor load(think of pixar's server farm) would be crazy... even with Moore's Law, this is atleast 10+ years before anything remotely like this can be made decent quality on the normal desktop.

    I think the idea is awesome, and the level of AI amazing. But keep things realistic, your realtime book->movie program won't be around in 20 years, I just don't see it happening.

    When jobs was doing his NeXTSTEP computers business, by using fat binaries, he could support 4 archs simultaniously(er, at the same time). Why couldn't Apple do this? Heck, they could port to x86 for desktops, SPARC for servers, and even keep their options open for 64-bit archs from AMD and Intel.

    If there is any major leap, I don't see why Apple wouldn't use fat binaries to ease the pain.

    While features like a commandline history are nice, while you are at it, why not try something like the MUD Shell or the New Adventure shell? Instead of some plain black, dull shell, spice unix up with a gameplay like feeling. Interestingly, The MUD shell, was inspired by a posting at... Slashdot!

    Human rights?! Dear god man, we are not shooting up schools! We are attacking the military bases, weapons, and going after the Dictator. You think Saddam gives a damn about human rights? There is a reason why we are coming to liberate the iraqi people, whether you like it or not, the freedom gained by millions(sadly, but truly) out weighs the few civilians who MIGHT die.

    We are not attacking houses, we are attacking military bases. We do not want to kill innocent people, we want to set them free.

    we did not decide alone, we only lead the cause. All along, England stood beside us. And, if my information is correct, something like 30 nations have signed on with their support along with anoth 15 supporting us privately. It is the loud, opposing countries(read France) that make us look as bad as we do(worse than we deserve), even though we are not the only nation who thinks this is a just cause.

    First, why would steve jobs want a selling point for his computer to be "it runs the other guys system, too!"? He would rather say, you don't need the other guy's system, the mac has everything you need and it has better, prettier ways of doing it.

    Finally, I will rehash what many have already said. Why buy conectix, when you can instead build relations in the opensource world by helping develop for bochs? Yes, bochs isn't as far along, but that is why it needs help in development. Version 2, is twice(!) as fast as 1.x, so it clearly being improved, and a company like apple could only help it along.

    If i understand you right, you are saying that even with visual studio under WINE, the developer still needs a windows box to make sure the darn thing works? Well, if Visual Studio runs under WINE(as does office) then most of the average programs will to. But in an extreme case, there is always Bochs.

    As for the part about testing on a slow computer, I agree. Having rediculously high minnimum requirements for some programs just seems like sloppy programming. Again, if you are using Bochs, then your slow machine is covered, since it is emulating the x86(thought version 2.0 is much faster than previous version).

    The answer: Build a Hydrogen fuel cell out of the Sun! With a long extension cord, this just might work. We would, ofcourse, need a somewhat large surge protector on the moon. But hey! Atleas this way, NASA can get some more funding :) Why does this sounds strangely familiar to something I might see in Space Balls... Honestly, maybe you are right, that 100% of our power needs cannot be met by alt. power. But what about 10%, or even 20%? That in itself is a victory and will help us in so many ways (pollution, oil dependency, global warming, creates jobs...) that it seems silly not to.
