It's all about how you value things
Exactly right, though you go on to contradict yourself by saying that geeks can't be happy with their lifestyle.
Everyone, do what makes you happy as long as it doesn't hurt other people. Blaze a j, play some games, work on the linux kernel, watch some sports, play some sports, read a book, write a book, play with your kids, who gives a fuck as long as you have fun? Anyone that judges someone elses lifestyle (assuming it doesn't hurt anybody, I'm not sticking up for murderers or anything:) is just elitist scum, whether they're a bartender or a CEO.
Personally, I am not very social but I am also not the stereotypical geek at all (I am well groomed, I am reasonably attractive, I work a geek job but never more than 50 hours per week, I have non geeky hobbies, I have a girlfriend (more like a common-law wife), etc). In fact, I have never really met the stereotypical geek, and the older they are, the less they fit the stereotype.
I don't look down on geeks for wanting to never go out and just write code, and I don't look down on people who just want to coast through life and party every weekend.
All that really matters is that you can look at yourself and say "I had fun and I didn't hurt anybody." It's a bonus if you accomplish something great, but I don't see why it's a requirement for being a part of the human race.
The fact that they leave a site like Cherry Roms alone after the first letter is complied with says to me that, unlike the RIAA, these guys are either incompetent or smart enough to not bother sites with unprotected copyrighted material.
Ask anyone in the Emulation community - the IDSA has been doing this for years but they certainly aren't heavy-handed - they demand you remove things that they have copyrights to and nothing more (unlike the RIAA, which doesn't discriminate).
Clearly, they investigate many sites and just have a list of copyrights they hold. Now, it may be that the IDSA is right and the redistribution rights of, say, the Frogger license, mean that the licensee (ie/ the game producer/publisher/author) do NOT have the right to redistribute the game for free. This has not been explained by either the original letter or the response.
Of course, Occam says that the IDSA just has a bunch of interns searching Google and Top50 sites.:)
I am only speaking from experience and I am always willing to hear different opinions and experiences people have had with the IDSA...
Damn, 7th post. Stupid 1 post per 2 minute limit. I almost had it...
Anyhow, I guess the whole snow-gun thing might appeal to you USians, but if you really want, I'll send you some of the white stuff we gots up here in Canucka:)
I heard that snow is expensive down there and there are special snow making businesses that make your yard snowy for parties - tell you what, i'll sell you some for $5 USD per cubic foot plus shipping and handling. Note that some settling may occur during shipping. *cough*and melting *cough*
The eighties just don't appeal to me very much - the stuff that does (Metallica) is unfortunately missing from the game. Course, it's funny when some vietnam vet phones the rock station and threatens to bring some pain to the host (Laslow) if he doesn't play some real rock and stop with the hair bands.
Anyhow, I want the seventies as a setting. Course, if it was the seventies, there'd be disco.
Hmmm....
Disco Stu: Did you know that mah bitches take is up over 4000%? If these trends continue... heyyyyy!
Uh huh, yeah, there's a lot of rape in that game alright. Dumbass.
Incidently, you can also be a "good guy" in this game (more so than GTA 3). You can stop criminals (through non-lethal methods) and get jobs (ie/ pizza boy), save up and buy a house, all without committing crimes.
I'm not trying to justify the game (the whole point of the game is to commit crime and that's how it is sold and we like it like that - nothing wrong with escapist fantasy, depending on the shrink you talk to:), but it's interesting that you can abandon the game plot and lead a moral life within the game.
So the computer shouldn't trust users. Like Palladium?
No, that's not a troll, I'm serious - isn't this what "trustworthy" computing is all about, and what pisses us off?
I have a solution for your physical access issues. It's called a door with a lock on it. =P
Incidently, doesn't IBM sell servers with physical locks on the cases? Anyone care to comment (I'm a programmer, I don't get to play with the hardware so much at work:)
Personally, I don't mind the lack of graphics and sound, so "fixing" those wouldn't fix nethack (for me). For me, the turn-off is it's annoyingly difficult and I have such a short a-
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO - I got first post instead of sixth, how could this happen... I planned it oh-so-carefully and it's all gone to shit!
Anyhow, let's get back on topic - are students really that stupid? I mean, c'mon, 20 bucks?
I guess geeks can't strip for money (well, I wouldn't have been able to, with my body) so they whore themselves out for less money.
Personally, I'd rather strip than act as a spam relay. Hell, I would rather be a gigalo (sp?). Overall, I'd feel less dirty...
I would guess that these students didn't really know what they were doing. If they did, they'd probably ask for more money. Or maybe I have to much faith in young people...
Incidently, I just love the diagram at the bottom of the article, though it is a bit inaccurate. They forgot the part where the student hands his soul over though - guess it's hard to draw the intangible. And why doesn't the spammer have horns and a pitch fork?

He has a holy ghost writer. Hyuk, as Jughead would say.
Redundant? I will show you redundant!
Redundant? I'll show you redundant!
I have to say, you Americans are sick. I mean, making snow? On purpose?
Up here in Canada, the only thing worst than the snow is the random moose attacks...
Now that was funny. I can't give you karma, but i'll be your fan. Bask in the adulation. Go ahead, I don't mind.
I'll sell you one. I have a Conair snow melting gun. $200 USD plus shipping and handling. It's also good for drying things, like hair.

oh yeah, my karma :) C'mon 6th post, lucky number six, woo hoo
Cute, but let's not try to make a molehill out of a mountain, ok?
If any game is ruining our world, it's scrabble. Did you know you can play it in the nude?
Oh, that's just me?
Nevermind.
I get to play with boobies every night (no, not my own) and GTA:VC - sometimes at the same time - neener neener neener to infinity.
:)
Plus 1.

The problem is they play music I listened to in high school on classic rock stations. Wouldn't bother me if I was 40, but I am only 23 years old.
Do you even know what you're talking about?

D'oh became a word. Is embiggen next?
Alot doesn't bother me much, but I must say I'm alittle annoyed with all the Gollum jokes.
Significantly expanded? So what does one more game equal? A 25% increase?
:)
I kid, I kid, sorry...
