A lot of people have the thinking that the "trouble makers" are different types of people. Those criminals are different types of people. We have to protect themselves from them! But the only difference between us and them is poor upbringing and parenting. We could have easily been them, if we were born under different circumstances. It would be much better to treat the root cause rather than the symptom. It would probably be better to try to help them deal with their issues first, before sending them to jail as a last resort.

This is the first step to close one of the analog holes. The next step is to close the last analog hole: the analog light signals between the screen and your eyes. All TVs will soon be fitted with an anti-piracy photon shield to prevent you from stealing the movie with your eyes. The problem is, millions of people have already pirated every single movie to date with their eyes. Remembering any part of a movie will soon be considered piracy. Therefore, everyone must pay a license for every movie they saw for the right to remember it. Any future movies are protected from those evil memory pirates with the new anti-piracy photon shield.

I have to agree with TFA in that Nokia offers way too many phones. They seem to make sure that each of their phones are missing a key feature. Focusing on just 2 models is kind of extreme, but focusing on say 4-5 models is realistic. Either way, lately nokia's offerings are uninspiring, but their non-smart phones are still great. They definitely have a tough road ahead of them.

I think the issue is bigger than just patents. Companies are abusing the legal system. Large tech companies gather an arsenal of patents so they can wage legal wars between their competitors. Patent trolls are extorting money out of companies that actually produce something. The RIAA is demanding money by threatening lawsuits. It all leads to the same problem: going to court is too damn expensive. This financial barrier needs to be removed. Perhaps if the plaintiff loses at court, they should pay for all costs. But even with this, there's too much risk. I'm thinking that law system needs to be completely reworked. It's too complicated.

The US is in a unique situation, in that they control the world's reserve currency. Essentially, there's no short term downside to just printing money and continuing business as usual.

America's wasteful use of oil propelled vehicles are not sustainable. Look around any road in the US, and look how many gas guzzling SUVs are out there. If the US REALLY wanted to reduce oil consumption, they should raise gas tax. Remember when gas prices spiked a few years ago and people's driving habits and vehicle purchasing behaviour immediately changed? Reducing consumption should buy us some time to figure out how to replace it with alternative fuels.

In Germany, this malware would not work at all. Every transaction requires you to input something called an iTAN, which is a one-time-use 6 digit code that the bank sends you by mail. So you get a paper with 100 iTAN numbers, and when you almost use them up, they send you another list. When you switch to the new list, you have to enter an iTAN from the old list. I feel much more secure with this system than what's implemented in the US and Canada.
