Go back and re-read it, and then go up one level and read the 10 or so other pages of his writings, and I think you'll see that he doesn't think the way that you think that he does.
I don't necessarily agree with him on everything, but it is interesting reading.
If he was agreeing it was the same way I would have, in a very cynical realization that various parts of our government tend not to let the Constitution get in the way of doing what they want to do, not as a sign of approval of the attitude.
With what? Didn't we have bombers that we could dispatch to the Soviet Union at short notice back then? Couldn't we have gotten them to Kuwait in a few extra hours? Or if Russia started World War III would we have had to ask them for a time out while we got ready?
Ten years ago Bush the elder waved the flag and talked about battling agression and defending the population of Kuwait. I just wish he'd skipped all that BS and said straight out that letting Saddam grab all the petroleum sources in that part of the world was unacceptably dangerous for the rest of the world in general and the U.S. in particular. It would have been true and more than sufficient reason for going to war in and of itself. We already knew about that supercannon he was trying to get Gerald Bull to build for him and that he wasn't someone we should allow to grab any more power or resources than he already had.
Called them on the fact that ten years ago we were fighting for oil but saying that we were fighting for something else. If we were really concerned about the average citizen of Kuwait (as opposed to the ruling family who all skeddadled out of the country except for one guy who stayed to fight), we should have been bombing the Iraqi columns as they rolled across the border that first day instead of waiting almost half a year while the Iraqis looted everything and slapped everybody around. We could have sent bombers first and taken a little time to organize to send in ground troops.
"You'll never see a steel heatsink in your life..."
It's the steel heatsinks that you don't see that get you, like where some TV's horizontal output transistors are mounted on a steel bracket that doesn't dissipate heat quite fast enough for that particular transistor after it's got a few years on it.
There are two types of KVMs, active and passive. The active ones have various and assorted circuitry inside and possibly associated software. The passive ones just have a multipole switch inside. This type would be fine for what I need *if* I knew what to add in (as in solder, etc) to keep the computer being switched away from from noticing that it no longer has a keyboard and mouse attached (and of course there's that need to detect a PS/2 style mouse--IRQ 12-- on startup). If anybody knows just what's needed, please feel free to speak right up.
Oh, by the way, how about this quote from the article--"I could go into a long winded explanation of how KVM switches work, but, to be honest, I found this to be boring, and I am sure that most of you would, too, so I will spare you the explanation." If he really could do that, why can't he go into a concise but complete explanation?
Interestingly enough 10 years ago Bush Sr. was going on about how we were fighting to protect and defend the people of Kuwait and the other day Bush Jr. referred to how we went to war against Iraq to protect our vital national interest in the area's petroleum, but nobody's called either one of them on it.
Actually the author of the ThirdWorldTraveler article was quoting a CIA or FBI agent's saying that "they are only ammendments" by way of illustrating the way certain parts of the government put doing what they want to first and protecting and respecting your rights last.

It was a post making fun of Linus and Linux posted by the real Bruce Perens. That throws so much fat into the fire that I'm surprised anyone could figure out how to moderate it.
I'm not big on following sports either, but the part about running the film backwards and seeing a Satanic message made the invisible satire tags pretty obvious.
The trend is that several years ago most of this guy's readers and possibly himself as well would have said "What's a Linux?", now lot's of people who'd still say "What's a Slashdot?" are aware that there's an operating system for PCs other than Windows. That's what makes this guy's mention of Linux worth mentioning on Slashdot. That, and blaming a football game loss on an operating system switch is funny because it's so ridiculous.
Of course it would have been both funnier and more believable if he'd said that the loss was blamed on an organization wide "upgrade" to a newer version of their MS operating system. Or installing the latest Service Pack.
Don't lower frequencies (longer wavelengths) propagate farther or better or whatever you want to call it? The lower the frequency the better the signal can "go around" obstacles (that's why subwoofers are much more non-directional than tweeters). A VHF TV signal doesn't get blocked the way a UHF one does (it only takes one lousy pine tree right in the path between the transmitter and the receiving antenna).
If you're talking about a "dry loop" or "alarm circuit", i.e., a twisted pair of copper wires running from one location to the telco's central office where it's hard wired to another twisted pair that runs from the central office back out to another location (like say from your house to the CO to your ISP) without any connection to the phone company's switches or power, the FCC may not have anything against it, but the trick is to get the phone company to go along with it. If they have the extra wires available to do it, some will, some won't. They'd rather sell you some expensive data service instead of just renting you the wires. So, just like those of us wondering if DSL will show up in our area before the 22nd century, you're at the mercy of the local telco.
How surprising that you were unable to develop a meaningful relationship with a young lady WHILE SCREAMING BACK AND FORTH IN ORDER TO BE HEARD OVER THE MUSIC.
Once upon a time the number of the post was usable as a chronological order indicator as well. Supposedly this was changed as part of a larger strategy to make achieveing first post less attractive, but it doesn't seem to be making any difference. I'd just as soon see the old way brought back.
If you moderated up the original, that was wrongly moderated down to begin with, of the comment of which I posted a copy in order to get it some visibility and recognition , I'd thank you, except for your apparently having separate posting and moderating accounts, which isn't in accord with the way moderation is supposed to work (those of us who post frequently or very seldom aren't part of that middle group from which moderators are selected, no matter how high our karma), and probably the reason there's so much questionable moderation these days.
Perhaps my guerilla moderation is a violation of sorts of the spirit of the moderation rules, but at least I'm upfront about it, do it under my only user name, and am willing to take any karma hits that result.
Bubba was buying DSL for the always on *and* not having the phone tied up. Assuming that DSL was available in Bubba's neck of the woods, which it mostly ain't.
So you're in favor of exposing young children to second-hand smoke? I really don't see how the first item in your list belongs on it.
Absolutely! It's always better to have a capacitor explode in your face than to protect yourself with any kind of shield.
I don't necessarily agree with him on everything, but it is interesting reading.
So will he be the "West Wing" candidate in 2004? Intellectual progressive governor of a small(ish) New England (or thereabouts)state?

"transister" was right in the first place. You see his sister is really his brother.

dissent?
dissidents?
dissona nce?
Don't use it for anything anybody can make any money on. Leave that stuff for the regular internet. Just use it to communicate with the neighbors.

What if he's the one trying to break in to an already existing setup and is just looking for ideas on what kinds of defenses he might encounter?
