  2. Re:only $30.00 for 6hrs :-( on Fuel Cell Powered Backup System · · Score: 2

How much do you pay for the recharge? If it's more than $5/hr the hydrogen fuel cell is the better deal. Other wise stick to your toxically polluting lead acid fuel cell.

Notice I don't include the initial costs... now the question there is how long will your battery last until you have to replace it? Luckily it's just a UPS device and doesn't get used that often. I know I have to get a new car battery about once every 3 years. Even though this Coleman only has a 1 year warranty I bet it will last a bit longer than 3 years if taken care of.

6k is still too pricey for me though so I'll wait until next year when they start dropping a better more efficient version for 4k or maybe the year after for 1k. Maybe competition will kick in sooner and drop the price earlier, who knows?

I'd be more concerned about how much additional heat and humididty this thing is producing and whether the server room tech had accounted for it before leaving for the weekend.

  5. Good news on Chemists Sweeten Plastics For Faster Diodegradation · · Score: 2

Seeing as Plastic is going to be a favorite production material for a while now, this is good news. It's amazing that it took them this long to get this to work or to come up with the idea, whatever. This of course still won't help the bigger issues with heavy metals polluting the environment but it's a nice step in the right direction. If nothing else it has probably made a few more 'positive' jobs available.

I'm also curious as to how this will effect plastic recycling? Are these new plastics recyclable? Do we really recycle plastics if we are trying to make more biodegradeable materials?

You should just be putting in a password, your password and that's it....

Maybe you didn't set up the device in the Bluetooth Preference Pane as illustrated in the article above?

In the O'Reilley article it clearly shows setting up and setting a password for each new Bluetooth device you want to add to your machine.

Well, check out the article and see if that helps. Or google around a bit more like I started to and you may find what you need to know. One thing you can't expect is for Microsoft to provide tech support for your Mac. They don't know any more about your OS than you do. I'd never expect Apple to provde support for a One-Button mouse if a person was trying to use it on a Windows machine, would you? or how about hooking up an Airport device to a Windows XP machine? Yes it should be possible and should work just like all other 802.11b devices but since it was made only for Apple products and they don't claim otherwise, I would be SOL and on my own.

I stayed because I was enjoying the story and the exploration of age-old themes (the same ones in every single book, tv show, movie, etc. I've ever experienced) in a compelling way, set in a future that managed to suspend by disbelief by being somewhat 'ordinary' and 'mundane', performed by actors who knew their place as the pawns of a wonderful director reenacting a sci-fi classic.

Well not exactly... yes quantum physics inherently presents some of these issues but I'm referring more specifically to the 'observer' point of contention. Many will argue that form a non-specific and non intelligent/mechanical POV quantum physics implies multiple outcomes based on probability.

What they don't argue is that the 'observer' ie: an intelligent and 'human-concious' entity can have a dirct impact on the outcome by 'perceiving' the activity. Age old question: "if a tree falls but no one hears it, did it make a sound?" or Schroedinger's Cat, etc....

So the question I propose from her statements is: "Do we as observers, with our overlapping light cones (event horizons?), create our universe from a multitude of potentials?"

So what other industries have done for decades and hire a MARKETING firm. Now I know that the term marketing is loaded with negativity these days, especially in a community such as /. BUT when you get down to it that is what you are looking for, marketing data, your market being developers.

I don't know what data is already available from current sources that a good marketing firm could use to do analysis but they may find it as an enticing agenda and do the leg work for free, only charging you for the analysis (which of course is what you need to tell them when you propose this).

Market analysis is simply crunching numbers in a statistical manner with datasets representing your target audience or constituency, yours being developers. I can't recommend a firm but you should definitely find one with what they refer to as "Domain Experience" in technology and specifically software.

    Good luck.

The Department of Information Technology has already devised a strategy to introduce Linux as a de facto standard in Ivy-league educational institutions like Indian Institute of Technology, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research and Bhabha Atomic Research Center, through their curriculum that encourages the use of such systems.
