I'm thinking you should start a branch of Lindows and title it 'RedNeck' just to piss off RedHat while simultaneously pissing of Microsoft.

  2. Re:What is 'live'? on First Virtual Piano Competition · · Score: 2

i would say that 'liveness' as you put it relies upon several factors, one being 'acoustics'. The particular venue is irreplaceable by digital or even analog recording capabilities. you can not possibly replicate the sound of the Sydney Amphitheatre with an orchestra/individual playing, via any recorded means.

  3. Re:What is 'live'? on First Virtual Piano Competition · · Score: 3, Funny

That was a very good synopsis of what analog really means! Thank you for posting!

    Mod this up.

Composition rules. Digital always wants to take the 'easy route' and simply 'composite' which is not the same as composition... which requires not only skill but experience and insight as well.

thanks again for saying as much.

Kevin here also seems to agree... calling our airwaves a 'precious natural resource'.

"Spectrum management decisions are always complex and challenging," said Kevin J. Martin, another FCC commissioner. "In an environment where the amount of unencumbered spectrum is decreasing while demand continues to grow, it is even more critical we make interference and sharing decisions that do not waste this precious natural resource."

I'd think that at some point wireless will be ubiquitous like cell bands and you won't need to broadcast your own.. isn't that what you meant by 'success story'.

Not broadcasting your own means much less interference AFAIK. This will happen soonest in tightly populated areas.. looked to Japan to be the first to have public access WiFI.

Course i have to ask how does WiFI scale to N users per square mile/km?

I see streaming concerts ala pay-per-view in the near future raking in big bucks.

The biggest problem about concerts is their location oriented cash flow. once you decentralize concerts you will see artists performing more and gaining higher value in the marketplace. This won't stop attendance to concerts in the same way that boxing matches and other sporting events are still attended while an at home audience views at their convenience.
