Seems like some simple calculations of what types of chemical reactions may be taking place in there, based on our knowledge of constituent elements that make up the atmosphere, could be made and levels of energy resulting could be inferred. I don't imagine there's some mystery heat engine there... just some extra chemical activity that hasn't been accounted for.
FYI... iTunes was in OS X long before iPods... it was in OS9! A quick search pulled this iTunes 2.0.4 for Mac OS 9: Information and Download
The iTunes Music Store came later after the iPod per this history lesson. Which demonstrates that from the beginning you could use an iPod on Windows and Macs without iTMS....
Everything else you state is in line with my thinking;-p the iPod is an accessory to iTunes/iTMS, not the other way around.
While this is true I doubt very much that Joe Sixpack is interested in a strategy boardgame. However... use RISK as your baseline for graphics. Looks professional but not overly complicated visuals anywhere except the packaging (which you can get past by picking a nice font (fonts.com) and sticking the name big in red on black... always looks nice a dramatic).
As a practicing physician you should know better. 90% of the 'food' on the shelfs of your local grocer is equivalent to cardboard when it comes to nutritional value. It's all been injected with just enough vitamin content to be called a food when really it's nothing but sugars and starches and a little bit of cotton seed oil (which is toxic if unprocessed) to hold it all together. Perfect example is Pop-Tarts. You'd die of a wide variety of vitamin deficiencies if all you eat are Pop-Tarts... which is how a lot of kids live, on the edge of vitamin deficiency, and we wonder why they have difficulty paying attention in class or why they come down with so many auto-immune syndromes.
It's 'professionals' like you who lead the american citizens into seriously unhealthy lifestyles. Oh well, guess a guy's got to make a living and what would physicians do if everyone were naturally healthy?
Rule of thumb as in general rule for a lot of stuff. But yes.. typical flour you get has been processed to the point where it gives you nothing but calories when you eat something made with it. It's been broken down beyond nutritional value, bleached of all the remaining vitamins, irradiated to remove any trace organisms and then "refortified" with lab made vitamins that your body doesn't react to, much less use.
Refined sugar is the same. Nothing but empty calories. Refined white rice, same story.
Oats... oats won't last long out in the open... they'll go stale first (absorbing moisture, then re-drying) then they'll start to rot like they should. I wouldn't advise storing your oats in open air containers. Lentils are also good. This type of food is typically freeze-dried which is not too much of a problem but try to find grains and seeds that haven't been irradiated... they'll taste much better, though they will go bad (a few weeks later) as soon as you expose them to air and the little micros reactivate...
A basic rule of thumb for those without a sense for quality food....
If it has a shelf life of more than a few days when exposed to air it's no good for you. Imagine what it takes for your body to break it down (hint >> more acids) and even if the body can break it down completely (often not the case), what benefit are you really getting out of it?
You probably don't realize it but most Macheads as you call us ALSO investment in Apple. SO it really is in our own best interest that Apple do well, really really well.
You could store as delayed and compressed wave signals... an incredibly elaborate matrix of data. It would be interesting to use something other than a physical mask to create the interference in the wave... say another set of photons in the form of a laser... would this be a form of holographic storage?
There's no mandatory DRM in iPods unless you buy the song through iTunes.... they play MP3s just fine... or WAV or FLAC and of course MP4u as well as the iTunes MP4p formats.
Just a crapload? I'm sorry we're only taking donations with a minimum of 10,000 craploads. The paperwork required just doesn't allow us to accept individual donations such as yours. We recommend that you form a non-profit coalition to collect the necessary craploads and then pursue a group donation. Thank you for your interest and best of luck...
BBC, CNN, MSNBC, FOX News, NY Times, Wall Street Journal, Chicago Tribune, International Herald Tribune, LA Times... these are the primary authorities for 98% of the US regardless of educational level or determination to find out the facts. These are the big media outlets. Blogs, Radio shows, other TV shows, etc. may break a story but until it hits the 'News' it's just rumor and speculation for most people. It just doesn't have the weight of being supported by an organization that needs to be accurate if not un-biased.
BTW you can tell I didn't mean 'primary authority' as a pseudonym of 'primary source' though those words were used in the same sentence so the confusion is understandable;-p Authority has never equalled truthful or factual... just the consensual or defacto trusted entity.
How about an ISO standard for what is a fully disclosed and complete piece of 'news'? News stories could be rated to meet the standard or a subset... this would allow a critical thinker such as yourself to weigh each bit of news appropriately and then choose to be satisfied with the news presented or go and find a new source which met the standard more fully or in the case of a breaking story, realize that there simply isn't enough data available to meet the standard as yet and it's not the source's fault... you just have to wait... reminds me of wireless data standards;-p
Excepting that in today's world there is a proliferation of 'news sources' which present unverified information as fact and people in general are completely aware of this now so are skeptical about using 99% of the 'news sources' out there as a primary authority.
Which brings us to the situation today where the major networks and media outlets are still and rightfully seen as primary authorities for news coverage. There are only a handful of these news authorities that have credibility with the public as far as the accuracy and veracity of the news coverage they provide... which does not mean they have credibility as far as their bias, which is what this Fairness Doctrine would cover.
So yes, there are thousands of sources of news information, each with it's own level of accuracy and bias... but who does the public turn to when they want the full story backed by an organization big enough to have something to lose if they misrepresent the facts or outright lie?
Additionally to satisfy the OEMs even more they could create an 'installer app' that can be preinstalled which will show the consumer what software is available on the CDs and then let them install it if they choose.... which is the biggest thing the vendors want... they want the consumer to see the software that's been bundled. The installer app could have video demos of the software etc. so you know what you're getting and provide a simple list of checkboxes and a big button labeled INSTALL NOW which would then ask for the appropriate CDs....
why not prevent fertility clinics from creating excess embryos
ESC's must be harvested from an embryo which is encouraged to develop several orders of magnitude more than what is used for fertility purposes... essentially the embryo's are started on the process to becoming viable beings and then cut short during the harvesting process. embryos kept for fetility purposes are not brought to this stage and are more like to a simple zygote than an embryo in first week developmental stage like ESC embryos.
The differences are semantics and intent of course but significant nonetheless.... they say the devil is in the details, this is a case example of that. It's like the difference between killing for food and killing for sport, or killing for self-defense vs. killing for revenge... our laws reflect this difference of action and intent why should it not also cover this area of behavior as well.
The article on New Scientist clearly states that the amniotic stem cells can be taken from the placenta after delivery and placed in cryogenic storage and then replicated easily within 36 hours to become a plentiful source of these cells....
So all the comments about the dangers of taking fluid during pregnancy are mis-informed based on the original link apparently... sounds like bias from cnn editors.
This is a great new discovery and should certainly be explored fully before being discounted because it doesn't involved the destruction of embryos to accomplish new science.
And how many embryonic cells do you think they get in a typical procedure? Article in new scientist says these cells replicate quickly so a few (probably hundreds if not thousands) would become a good supply in short order.
Without research targeted at embryos there would be no donations by misguided people consent or no... it's a slippery slope as they say. Allow embryos donated for research to be destroyed and there will soon be a market for said embryos which poor/desperate/greedy people will exploit by harvesting from people w/o consent and then selling as 'donated' embryos, etc.
Why not just start experimenting drugs on people in Comas? Their chance of coming out is slim... in the meanwhile they could be human subjects for drug trials... anyways, it's a slippery slope and there's really no good reason to do so when alternatives exist.
That's funny I always thought they reminded me of Counterstrike.... hmm maybe they should make a game called CopperStrike where all the police go on strike and just start shooting people with sniper rifles instead of radar guns... senseless violence, I suspect it would sell well in the 13 - 21 crowd

Or put a secure web terminal on each seat back. Bring your own USB stick and you're ready to go..
but does it run on Linux?
