  1. Some problems prevented through registry key...... on Ready or Not, Here comes Windows XP SP2 · · Score: 1

Looks like some of the problems mentioned can be prevented by disbling the SP2 built-in firewall: http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=42 2503 Just make sure the clients get the registry key before SP2 is pushed to them.

  2. Verio does this as well on Live Chat Salespeople On Web Sites · · Score: 1

I took advantage of the live chat with a sales rep. I had a quick question and had it answered with 15 seconds. Although ultimately I went with a different provider, the same question required a phone call to that provider which took considerably more of my time. I think many web hosting providers have been doing this for over a year now. BTW--The other provider offered better hosting for less cost, hence, why we went with them over Verio.

I still have and use a 400mhz Pentium II that I got sophmore year in college(1998) as my primary home computer. Granted I maxed the RAM out at 384 MB and upgraded from the 8MB video card to a 32MB Geforce since then. For Internet, compiling, web design and even Flash development, it works for me. Can't play the latest or even recent games though. Since I work all day with computers and continue to go to school working with computers, the last thing I want to do with free time is sit at the computer, even to play a game.

Try getting a job as a help desk tech or something similiar. With all that networking knowledge you probably have a lot of computer knowledge as well. This way you get your foot in the door and when a higher paying network admin job comes up, you can go for that within the company or organization. I find alot of tech jobs are filled internally within a company/organization.

  6. Kinda funny on Does IT Matter? · · Score: 2, Funny

I learned that IT means the ability to look up things on Google. I swear my whole job has become that. I don't even try to keep it a secret. When there's a problem I Google it. Because likely someone had the same problem, and was nice/smart enough to post it. This is why I'm looking for a new/more challenging job. Troubleshooting why someone can't print to a copier, which involves turning off the copier and turning it back on, is getting old :-).

  7. Keep Exchange behind a SMTP proxy on Mail Server Flaw Opens MS Exchange to Spam · · Score: 2, Interesting

That's what I do. Only thing the spammers see is a ASTARO Security Linux. Which for the 12 person remote office, was the best purchase we ever made. I don't really worry to much about Exchange vulns. Especially since the last patch killed the Exchange server, and I had to come up off backups. For a network admin with better things to do, Astaro Security Linux is great. When my larger network at a very renown hospital system was dealing with viruses and everything else, the remote office didn't see a single infection, even though they connect to the larger network. Thank you Astaro.

Have students sign a agreement. If they wish to have their machine on the University owned network, then they must be willing to play by the University's rules(updated virus protection, mandatory windows updates, administrative restrictions). The university should then make it possible for students who refuse to sign the agreement to buy internet access through other providers(DSL, Cable modem, Dial-up) and have these users residential network fee refunded. Easier said then done of course :-)

Same reason I don't have digital cable. I like to surf the channels, which digital cable doesn't allow me to do. I actually paid more for regular cable at the time. There was free install for digital. The salesperson thought I was nuts. Regular cable is fine thanks. I can change the channel without a 1.5 second delay.

UT2003= Unreal Tournament 2003. The orginal Unreal Tournament is probably the best game I ever played. You have weapons and are pitted against opponents basically. Guess another Shoot Them Up type game, but the graphics and playability are endless. I still play it and I warezed it 2 years ago. I should buy a copy because the developers work behind this game is obviously worth it. One game I feel bad about warezing.....I'll go out and buy the Orignal copy this week. They deserve the revenue. As for the new version(2003), I don't think my system can handle the truth(400 MHZ, 384 RAM, 32 MEG Video Card). I'm not going to blow about $700 to build a new system for a game, everything else works great, other than I run WIN XP(not warezed), my school has a kick ass agreement with MS, what can I say. I still have Linux running on my old box though, so I'm not a total lamer.
