from TFA: Read my previous guide to securing Mac OS X and do not run as an admin user for daily activities.
Moreover, if you must run as the administrator, do not install packages from non-reputable sources without cracking open the package
What you want is a tablet PC with a GSM card and a bluetooth headset.
a tablet PC? how big do you think his pocket is?
seriously, we have the technology, it's just a matter of some company (maybe Apple) doing it right to make it all work.
i don't know how windows does zero conf, but every time i plug a device, it always runs the stupid wizard and wants to install drivers. i expect zero configuration to be just that...zero user intervention.
Since it's the top-selling media player in the United States, probably the big question is: What makes it different from any other digital media player?"
because it's tied to, and works seamlessly with the easiest, most popular online music store in existence. what other company has a complete, one stop shop, all in one solution that works with itunes?
For your purposes, an Intel Mac may be the best of all possible computers, but don't go making assumptions about other people's reasons for wanting to run OS X on other hardware.
like what I said, it doesn't matter what your reasons are for wanting to run OSX. You could have the best, lightest, fastest system in the world...The bottom line is Apple still does not want you to run their OS on any other computer besides a Mac.
The bottom line is Apple does not want anyone to run their OS on non Apple hardware. I personally prefer they do it this way than having to go through entering some registration code.
If you can't afford their hardware, don't buy it. If you like their product and can't afford it, why even consider it? A lot of people want a Ferarri but can't afford one. You don't see them trying to test drive one, let alone steal one because they think it's overpriced.
hypothetically, speaking, let's pretend that the blockbuster kiosk is another Mac. The way it works right now, if you tried to plug in your ipod to a different computer that is not an authorized, it starts complaining and wants to delete everything you currently have stored on the ipod and synchronize with the new one. does that mean you have to authorize blockbuster's account as another user? what if you are already at the limit of authorized computer accounts?
i don't think so. according to the article, they had to pay the developer 8.9 million dollars in damages. Microsoft has made a lot more than that just on sales of Microsoft Office. So they paid little money for the concept, but they'll still be making money off the idea, even with a different code.
how can it be in the wild if vista isn't even available to the general public.
The fact that it isn't even out yet and there's already a proof of concept is a bit concerning.
When we spoke to Apple on the phone about this issue, the security team had never even heard of the application, and burst out laughing at the simplicity of the vulnerability," said Archibald.
don't take it personally. seriously. They were laughing with you, not at you.
He now might have the single largest share in Disney, but does he still have enough shares to become a factor? Over at Pixar, he controlled a little over 50% of the share, which meant his vote overrides the other shareholders' votes. will it still be the same at Disney or will he become a non-factor in making decisions?
hands off, but he controls 50.1% of the company, which means he has the power to veto anything he doesn't like. it just happens that he likes the stuff they're producing.
Steve Jobs is known to be a control freak. He controls Apple and Pixar. Unless he's able to control Disney if and when they merge, I don't think he'll be selling.
there are numerous anti virus programs out there for the Mac, but what virus are they scanning for? There are no known viruses for OS X, so how can they update the virus definitions if they have nothing to base it on? They've seen a vulnerability here and there, but nothing has been exploited yet. So it's like the chicken and the egg. you need an AV program to protect yourself from viruses, but you need a virus for the program to detect.
The day i see a virus on OS X is the day I buy an AV program.

Well, thank you, Captain Obvious!
read all about it here.
however, after you install a few firewalls on that box, put it behind a router(includes it's version of cheap firewall) it becaomes safer.
The question is why do I have to do all that just to make my box safer? why not just make it safer to begin with?
you might be thinking of methadone to treat a heroin addiction. methadone was also developed because there was a shortage of morphine.
they're on Vista time. :)

That was the first and last purchase I made from iTMS.
THAT is how you protest DRM!
Seems like these guys want to hang around Apple stores and bitch to every customer who walks in trying to buy an iPod.

if you ever decide to unsubscribe, you still get to keep the shows you already downloaded.

did Steve Jobs start this $1 salary thing or did someone else do it before him?
and.. i'm an idiot for not RTFA. then again, this IS slashdot.
somewhere in this thread are various instructions on how to fix it.
or he could have just 1. his "lucky" turtleneck that hasn't been washed since he took over Apple.;)
