I have two arrays - one 360GB 4-disk Raid5 and another 480GB 4-disk Raid5 - I thought I'd never fill them up either... Then I started backing up my movie collection and stuff I record off of TV (like the 2003 Tour de France, which itself is 90GB).
Now I'm building another 8-disk array out of 160GB drives for an additional 1.1TB... I wonder when that'll be full... probably by the end of 2004...
A company that invests in life sciences pouring fully one EIGHTH of their total managed fund into a FLOUNDERING software company?
That makes NO sense... after all, when SCO dies, so do those 50 million clams...
Unless....
There were some back door agreement that indemnifies BayStar against total loss of that capital... say, for example, another memo were leaked that blew the whistle on such an agreement between them and a certain Redmond corporation..
I *LOVE* this idea...:) In fact, I'd be all for hardware manufacturers giving the RIAA and similar groups the big middle finger and getting rid of DRM alltogether.. better yet, if consumers could just have a spine and just STOP PAYING FUCKING $20 FOR A WORTHLESS PIECE OF CRAP CD, CD's would magically become affordable..
An Athlon 1.1GHz machine that I built for grad school 5 years ago... still does my email, web surfing, word processing, and everything else I need to do just fine. All I've had to do is add more RAM to keep up with bloatware, a second hard disk to handle my growing CD collection, and a new CD burner when the 8X burner that came in it died.
People don't realize that 99.999% of the time, they don't NEED a new PC. Simply adding more RAM and/or reinstalling Windows is all they need to do to get another year or three out of their PC. It's too bad they never realize that switching to linux will make their PC last forever.
Because part of going bankrupt is to divest all assets, including Intellectual Property. Someone (like Microsoft) would probably leverage their power to buy all Intellectual Property interests left by the demise of SCO and continue these lawsuits on their own.
Point is, the problem won't simply "go away" if SCO does. Someone else, like Canopy, Baystar, M$, or even IBM, could pick up the ball and run with it.. .
"..dramatically less expensive in purchase price..."
*puzzled look*
So I guess they *are* on SCO's side, since to even state that Linux HAS a purchase price is to imply that you're talking about a certain $699 protection racket...
Is that where I got that from? I knew I had heard it somewhere... I thought it may have been from my brother, who is a lawyer... it's still a question worth finding the answer to, or at least it would be if this memo were not a complete and obvious fake...
I just did my 2003 returns as well, and when I go back and add up all of the money I've paid in state, local, federal, gasoline, property, sales and use, and other taxes, it's well in excess of 70% of my income. Nice, eh? Not bad for a $60k salary... Doesn't help that I live in Pennsylvania, which just passed a new 5% cell phone tax, increased its state income tax by 0.27%, and increased a myriad of other State taxes and fees. They don't call it Taxsylvania for nothing hehe
Maybe, but we're fscked either way in this case... If Kerry wins, nobody will have any money to spend software, free or otherwise, because the freakin' government will take it all... if Bush wins, the DoJ will continue it's "ignorance is bliss for corporations" attitude...
I wonder how long it will be before KMOS Sues IBM and RedHat for AmigaO/S code being "copied" into Linux... and sues SCO for selling it...
No more than you could sue McDonalds for making you a fatass...
they all run my word processor faster than I can type...
AMD will use Mirage, Veloce, Centaur, Chorus, and Record... Intel will use Sora, Tiagra, 105, Ultegra, and Dura-Ace...
Everyone knows they're roughly equivalent, but the former is always better...
This is the government we're talking about here - so that's "Administrator" to you, pal...
:)
who the hell is "root" anyway?
But yeah, I see your point
just imagine a beowulf cluster of angry, pissed off, offshored slashdotters with automatic weapons...
That thought alone should probably be enough to frighten any of our enemies into submission...
Really? That's funny, my parents just bought a two-bedroom house in Springfield for only $485k.. Must've been a bargain or something!
:)
What I want to know is - where the F! did they get that kind of money?!
What the hell are you smoking?
"India firms have a unwritten policy of favoring Indian citizens before others.."
Funny, so do American firms...
At least SOMEBODY got it :)
from dictionary.com:
"3. A stubroutine, in an overlay programming environment,
that loads and jumps to the correct overlay."
Although I've never heard of a "stubroutine"
Wow... who woulda thunk it?

because people who bike to work don't use any gas, I need a levy against bikes to recover my lost gas station profits...

Some news for nerds that actually matters... :)

Believe me, having to face any kind of new music these days is punishment enough...
"I hereby sentence you, Kazaa, to an eternity of having Britney Spears blasted into your ears"
AAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!

"Now if it was a leaked powerpoint slideshow I might believe it."
Especially if it were all in Greek font...
Amen, brother, amen...
Kerry, the Wal-Mart of Politicians... rolling back economic freedom and progress in the name of "fairness."
It's sad when I have to change my budget in anticipation of having to make YET ANOTHER car payment to the government every month..
