Why are you limited to Adaptec? Most people like 3Ware cards for their vigorous driver support (they give you the source)... Nothing wrong with the Promise card either..
That answer your question? It's on a RH7.3 box. I've had zero problems so far. They released a driver for RH9 after receiving a scathing letter from me about their lack of support - so at least they're current now.
I have a 256MB stick of SDRAM on it... it's not bad at all...
Unions are the reason everything is getting so much more expensive so much more quickly...
Look at a gallon of milk... $1.99 in 1992, $4.39 today. The population of the U.S. hasn't more than doubled in the last 10 years, nor has the number of cows halved. However, union pay for the truck driver, porter, grocery stocker, cashier, and so on, has more than doubled since then.
There's no reason someone punching buttons at a grocery store or putting food on the goddamn shelf should make $40k every year.
"viewers complained that the advertising was misleading,"
I'm sure all of these customers who felt "misled" bought competitive hardware and performed their very own well thought-out, scientific experiments to determine that the ads were indeed misleading.
This, of course, was the whole point of my original post. It was my intent to be funny, although I understood the article just fine. I just wanted to see what the moderation breakdown would be between "Funny" (people who got it) and "Informative" (people who didn't). It was about 50/50.
Slashdot is a playground when it comes to social experimentation:)
One problem inherent in disordered structures is the inherent differential cross-coupled field tensors present in a non-homogeneous layout of bipolar, dipolar, and unipolar electrical field vectors. These differential tensors lead to random non-unique ionization of co-recombinant carriers and de-ionization of unique co-recombinant carriers. These random ionizations and deionizations manifest in a statistically significant increase in error vector magnitude during bit placement and deplacement, and transfer. It is because of this that highly ordered systems are required for reliable nonvolatile memory arrays.
Yes this is a drawback, and I know SCO is going to get some pennies from this purchase by way of MS.
Someone at the JD needs to get on the ball and realize that the fact that it's impossible to buy any other O/S than windows on a laptop means that the ms hasn't done squat to remedy the anti-trust findings...
FFFA: "Q: What can the vouchers be used for? (Top)
A: You can exchange your vouchers for cash by submitting proof of purchases you made after July 18, 2003 of the following computer products: Any desktop, laptop, or tablet computer made by any manufacturer...."
Ok, so since 99.9% of these computers have Windows on them, usually with Works and a few other things, I have to AGAIN get stuck with software I don't want?
Great... I wonder how much this "Settlement" is going to make microsoft in sales of Windows...
or make Lexmark on sales of anti-trust printers...
I just bought two brand-spankin-new IBM laptops to replace my ailing HP machines. Going to put Suse on one of them and RH Enterprise Linux on the other one. Going to take a picture of them side-by-side and mail it to SCO. Can't wait:)
These aren't browser popups that they're talking about. They're using the Windows Messenging Service to popup a _system message_ containing the advertisement.
Tomatoes are indeed fruits, as are pumpkins, cucumbers, watermelons, squash, and zucchini... although tomatoes are in genus Lycopersicon while Cucumbers, interestingly enough, are in the genus Cucumis, which is really a Melon. Squash, which is really a lot like a cucumber, actually lives in the genus Cucurbita, along with the Pumpkin and the zucchini. Watermelon lives in genus Citrullus. All fruit...
Incidentally, New Coke was just a diversion - a well -calculated risk they took when they wanted to stop using expensive cane sugar and switch to cheap High Fructose Corn Syrup. If they had just made the switch to HFCS from Cane, it would have tasted worse in comparison, which is why they needed an Interim drink that tasted EVEN WORSE than the "classic" formulation, which is by no means the "classic" formulation since it uses a different, less tasty sweetener. So, when they announced they were going back to the "classic" formula, people were so happy to get it that they didn't notice it didn't taste as good as the real classic formula...
First of all, any reviewer worth their weight in salt doesn't get the hardware they're reviewing from the manufacturer. They walk into a retail outlet and buy it anonymously.
Never ever pay attention to "pre-release" reviews because they are almost always skewed, or based on hardware that will never see a store shelf.
This is all just common sense people... Hardly worthy of a slashdot story..
This guy got what he properly deserved. I have worked for employers that have authority to SHOOT DEAD ON SIGHT anybody carrying a camera around.
The rationale is, if he takes a picture of the loading dock and puts it on the web without permission, What else has he taken pictures of and posted on the web?!?
This guy presented a dire security risk. If it were me, I would not even have let him collect his personal belongings, nor taken his camera with him (if he had it on him). He would have immediately been either arrested or at the very least escorted by security to the property line.
I think employers can bar you from retrieving personal belongings until a later time after legal agreements are in place regarding your visit... not sure about it thought - ALCTC?
Suburbs west of Phila PA...
Gas is still 1.89 (93) here... 20 minutes away at my office it's $1.74...
Granted, I do as much shopping as I can at BJ's, so I don't actually SPEND that $4 for milk... but that's what it costs..
Sure, let me just get my wallet right over... RUN!

ECS Fully-Integrated motherboard
Athlon 1800XP, 256MB Ram
4x 40GB IDE Hard Disks
Promise SX4000 Raid-5 Controller
All in a micro_ATX chassis
Can't get much cheaper than $700 for a 120GB storage server with at least some measure of redundancy.
Of the acceptance of SlashDot into the ranks of the ULTRA-LIBERAL MEDIA ELITE?!
HUH!?!?
WHEN IS IT?!?!
I'm talking about the exact same gallon of milk I was buying 10 years ago... at the exact same grocery store....
The organic stuff is $3.89 for a HALF gallon...
I actually switched to soymilk a number of years ago for a number of reasons..
Or they're in a Union...
Unions are the reason everything is getting so much more expensive so much more quickly...

1) not a full keyboard
2) not full-size keys
3) probably cheap springloaded action
4) redhat is soon-to-be unsupported
Looks like they just crammed a PC into a cheap Casio keyboard from K-mart...

The stock photo on the Belkin front page is the same one that is used on PNCBank ATM Machines...
:)
I guess she gets around

And I'm sure yet another anti-trust suit against M$ would be just as effective as all the previous ones have been!
After all, I now have no problem buying any computer I want without windows preloaded on it.. ya... right..
Yes this is a drawback, and I know SCO is going to get some pennies from this purchase by way of MS.

God I hope not, but remember the hoopla? "This is 'absolutely' the last time the trilogy will be released in its original form!!!!!"
I hope for the best, but prepare for the worst...

Damn, if people at Princeton are that stupid, there's no way I'm sending my kid there...
Obvioulsy a far-left leaning liberal unionite that doesn't believe that, in a free market economy, "free" should be allowed.
