Very well, thanks. I had the pleasure of sitting down(to watch the video) with a local police officer, who enligntened me on several other things that could have been "charged". And although we did'nt see eye to eye on the treatment of the girl I think we both concluded that the Officer and the man should/could have had a much better encounter had the officer been genuinly concerned for the partys involved and had the man be cooperative.
It also seems that the 2 have had prior encounters, being asked "How did you get home yesterday?" seemed a way out of place question.
In any case thanks for the clairification and your public service.
Percisely, And we want to use their additions to our stuff for free.
Hard to imagine an well educated man telling a 20yo to sell his work for drugs and rock-N-roll intead of selfishly trying to make the world a better place. But you did it well.
Not that I don't aspire to be a wealthy, drug addicted, self absorbed techie as well, but to tell a kid go have fun instead of learning and working with an open community on projects your very involved in and enjoy is simply dispicable.
Just because he works on GPL'd projects doesnt mean he cannot work on personal closed ones as well.
Try to learn something new everyday and you might actually see why opensource and free software move so fast.
"Also note that existing gentoo users only need to "emerge -[D]u world" to upgrade to the 2004 release."
Not completly true. Gentoo's portage not only depends on the current portage package and tree but the profile you use. To upgrade completly you must make sure that/etc/make.profile is a link to the version you wish to run. ie: ls -l/etc/make.profile lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 39 Jun 14 2003/etc/make.profile ->../usr/portage/profiles/default-ppc-1.4
ls -l/usr/portage/profiles/ has alot more than 1 profile per arch.
Buy a laptop and install linux on it. Its probably tax deductable, and you might beable to convince your boss to let the company foot the bill as a "productivity bonus".
Tell management and your new "admins" you will require a username and password to access network resources, an email address and internet access if company policy allows.
On the contrary, #1: get commet cursor, call and complain to the "admins" that your computer is crap slow.
#2: make a mess install as much spyware as possible, spybot is evil and you want to show them how well windows makes use of thier network.
#3: Open every email every attachment make sure all the script extentions are enabled in outlook, demand the newest version of Outlook the day it comes out, make sure you get a copy of MS Office 2k and workperfect2k2. Unload any virus scanners claiming they use too much memory you need the recources.
#4: Install Visual Basic, WSH, and IIS.
#5: IE4
#6: Stock up on some local and remote admin exploits so you can help other users enjoy the same preformance "enhanced" workstation as you.
#7: install every app you can get a key for then call MS and insist on a company audit. Insist that the CIO or Network Admin know's how much it saves by not buying CAL's, call the BBB and tell them about the audit and how the companys illigal theft of software gave it enough leverage to buyout legitimate companys get famous|fired.

"not answering questions -- specifically, not answering the question of your identity --/is/ a crime."
If that is so and this is a public place, I demand to know:
What is your name and address?
What you drive?
Who do you work for?
What are you doing here?
What brand is your computer?
What operating system is installed in it?
Has it been used to view pornographic material of any kind?
If not may I search it?
If you don't give me permission to search it I think I can provide a Judge in your county with enough information to show that a substantial amount of ISP customers in your county with similar ip address' have DL'd substantial amounts of kiddie porn from my honeypot. Are you willing to cooperate?
How can you expect privacy if the public(police or imaginary police) has the right to know everything or anything?
Where do you draw the line?
Its also a crime in New Orleans for a woman to drive a car unless her husband is waving a flag in front of it.
In Lexington, Kentucky, it's illegal to carry an ice cream cone in your pocket.
In New Hampshire, law forbids you to tap your feet, nod your head, or in any way keep time to the music in a tavern, restaurant, or cafe.
In Florida, oral sex is illegal.
HA, Spring break oughta be a fun time to play police officer.
IANAL but mabe the W3c and the SGML Editorial Review Board can sue for infringeing intellectual property?
Personaly I'm sick of the copyright and digital media legalities, can't everyone else see that art in any form is naturaly free? You cannot stop hearing, seeing, feeling, tasteing, or smelling without killing or mangleing people. So should we be persecuted for recreating what we see or hear? How about what we taste? Can I not alter your recipies? Can I not use your discovery of buttered bread to create butter toasted sandwitches with a toothpick in it? This is what copyright does. Its stoopid to restrict our own evolution of thoughts, ideas, and progress because we copy each other. I want to patent speach, a method of chewing food, wipeing of ass' with tp, grooming lawns, and of course thinking in monotone. Fuck copyrights, I love art but please if I create something copy it if you like, If I don't want you copying it tuff shit I shouldn't have exposed it to the public.
Then we should create an opensource project for the advancement in the studies on these same things that his foundation is funding and knock em out with distributed clients(like Seti@home) or the Virgnina super cluster something definatly linux.
That way we can prove his money is being horded and used for the demise of his compitors, or itch his media persona to donate $$ to the project.
Sorry to be a troll and -1 me if you must but my suggestion to the poster is:
RE-Certify & if you think you have even the slightest dissadvantage at getting the position lie like a dog during the interview and on your resume if you must.
Learn the job requirements and go through the R&D in your spare time up untill the interview and you will sound like you have been up to speed with current tech in and outside of cisco.
Hire a consultant (preferbably an extensively experianced software analyst with ADHD) to give you a rundown of current enterprise solutions for several possible scenerios that each job your eyeing might have.
Do this to give an impression that you fit that you won't need much training, get your foot deep in the door and make friends. LEARN LEARN LEARN and work your ass off. Low expetations and a nice resume work.

I got laid off 11-11-02 working at a company who's IT department consisted of about 200 SUN boxes of sorts and sizes, due to loss of work and reduction in spending, cutbacks.
I got hired 02-21-03 by a very small company who is cutting back on spending by converting/*our*/ network to linux servers and eventualy linux desktops.
I don't have a high-school diploma. I voted for Bush. Hows that for an American job?
Im useing win2k server with a usb2.0 card some ME-320 series external ide drive enclosures and dantz retrospect.
Works very well. Ive needed the backups a few times so its tested ok for me too. I haven't overloaded it to see how much a day I could push but my backup strategy is sufficient for now.
Gentoo helps me use my time working and learning. I used to spend much of it fighting with rpm's or learning which compile time options are missing, installed, needed, conflicting... did I mention it was pretty darn fast?
I would actually like to see some broad benchmark test results between gentoo and debian, on a few diffrent architechures even. I have gentoo running on a sparc32, an alpha, a ppc , and a few x86's runs great, but I think debian is probably the only other mainstream distro that could shake a stick at gentoo. JMHO I have never tryed debian, tho I have a dog named debian, cute little fucker.
I too don't care for emacs but vim has somethings I do like alot, and I always make sure set backup is on in my.vimrc. With "set bdir=~/tmp" I can set the backup directory of edited files. Combine that with "set bex=.bak" and you can do away with the annoying ~

I don't understand this trying to make it work...It works. Just like any windows workstation works in a *nix domain. The configuration is about the only thing that doesn't come out the box setup for your network, but hey I cant hold your hand on this one RTFM's, or is that too time consumeing?
"I guess if your time is worth nothing, then linux will always be the solution."
It is worth alot to me and apparently worth a little something to my employer as well. But the time it takes to, Plan, Decide, get, configure and impliment software is much quicker with OS and Linux boxes. Not to mention time to keepup, backup , protect, recover, extend and develop for/with/in. Alot of those lines blur as your network becomes more heterogenous tho, and definatly mixing OS's slows some of cycle of implimenting solutions but that doesn't mean it takes longer to "make it work."

"3. No linux OS is very good on PPC
Why do you say that? Would Virginia Tech have invested 7 million+ on ppc hardware and put linux on em had this been true?
Gentoo runs wonderfuly on my ppc.
I tryed OSX and can't say that KDE runs as fast %100 of the time but it feels just as snappy %75 of the time. And I spend about 10+ hrs a day on it.
How is that threatening if you do not believe it.
Can someone be forced to belief with threats?
I tend to think that I can't. Maybe I haven't been threatened enough.

Seariously tho, I have not met a windows admin who was not running something unlicensed at his/her own little home/small business network.
