I fear the day i have to buy a AV-tool for Linux.
My opinion is : if a user is too stupid and runs email-executables, at least the only thing he deserves is to have all his personnal files deleted. Users should always be sponsored.
But every time i hear about security holes and people saying the latest version fixes it, i wonder how many "old" version are running around the world, and how long it will take (if ever) to be updated.
If anybody had played "Woodrush and the schnibble of Azimuth", they know what is meant with difficult puzzles. It is the most mind-struggling game i have laid my hands on, and i spent days & nights with it. And i was quite upset when i was forced once or twice to look at the walkthrough... But what a satisfaction when you finally find a trick !! Some of you may say it was a stupid game, but i liked it however;-) I find no fun in completing a "good-standard-nice" game in which i had nothing to do but play without scratching my mind. I may be a masochist, okay:-)
- This is great that i can play say, Warcraft 3
on a medium class computer, and despite this,
i kinda like the graphics style. Maybe
backward, but stylish though...
- What do you think of bethesda, with their
Elder's Scroll series? Morrwind is very
beautiful, and i REALY love the story,
and richness of the game.
Btw, i have recently played some rather old games, The Dig, Sam'n'Max, Indiana Jones: Fate of the Atlantis, Day Of the Tentacle...... and man, they STILL rule !!!
Whatever the graphics (the nicer the better though), i want FUN when i play, not a nice front-end for the latest card and chip...
Gameplay, story, isn't that what really matters ?! Am i really alone to think that way ?
6 pm . Mmmmh time for a game before dinner 10pm . Er... not so hungry finally 12pm . coffe break while re-loading 2 am . I CAN crush that enemy base !! 4 am . Loot this part of the map, then sleep 6 am . Wohoo Uber Item, now i slay the Guardian ! 8 am .... need more cafeine... then GAME ON ! 10am . Phone rings... "Hey dude, you're fired."
What about Doom? Quite dead now. EXCEPT the upcoming one. And i am really excited to see it on the shelves ! Althoug i hope i won't need to prostitute myself for a new computer to be able to run it;-)
Ok. Troll me if you want, but isn't Microsoft (TM, (C) and so on..) really a kind of "financial transaction institutions" ? I fundamentaly have nothing against Microsoft, but i cannot stand the price they are requesting for such a piece of software. I call it basic fund extortion, when they ask the home user, about 350$ for WindowsXP home, and 650$ for OfficeXP. Free trade mode is on, I know, but... It's annoying i think. And it makes them loose money due to piracy (i'm sure they'd sell more if it were cheaper).
This comes from the latin language:
virus -> virii, as
cactus -> cactii.
I know it sounds strange, but it's real. Ok, it's not part of the english language, but it's valid as latin. Many words were imported directly form latin, so it is accepted, even if it is not widely used. I kinda love weirdo things, so i like these plural forms:)
Maybe off-topic... But it is a (i'm not exagerating) holly-wonderful mind-striking idea. If only virii writers behave that way. I know it's not their job to secure systems, but doing constructive job would be appreciate (yes, i believe in Santa Klaus:o). But the pleasure to annoy, destroy and feel powerful is a great temptation though, and noone is perfect.
If I could spawn a clone of myself to fix everything that messed up, i'd be happy.
Maybe you can imagine the internet as an iron-build bridge. As time goes by, some bars rust, but some bars don't seem to. Thinking as the bridge in a whole, you cannot really consider it to be secure to cross the bridge. I do mean computers that have security flaws fixed are as "stainless steel", but it is not a valuable permanent operation : rusty bar survive, and put a threat on others. And any of them might have some other today-unknown inner flaws. It's not paranoia that it is about, just keep being realist about computers being non-perfect : nothing is perfect, but work is done to.
Why not write a gui for each quite known program, which would include the quite-usefull-and-not-gourou features activators, so that non-noob-but-non-omniscent people like me can figure out faster what options they need. Ok, it's a long shot, but i'm pretty sure it would be appreciated, although i kindy like to know what a program does exactly.
Furthermore, some speak in terms of speed, but i do not think people looking for a function are running after speed. If the next time they are, let's RTFM. But most time it is not very usefull (hope i'll not get burnt in hell for saying that) to read out the whole man pages.

Life sucks sometime for grown ups...
If you want a project to be delayed, pour more people in... A good adage, from my true life
