"In Conyers, Georgia, a 17-year-old boy was arrested for investigation of solicitation of sodomy after a 12-year-old girl's parents complained of sexually explicit messages she had received."
made me think out loud, "why does a 12 year old have/need a cell phone???"
MS VPC or FWB RealPC - the choice for me would come down to speed. I've used VPC and been less than impressed with its quickness. So much so, that it would almost be faster for me to drive to the office to do the "Windows-only" tasks that I might need to do.
Luckily my company uses Citrix, which allows me to do my Windows work from the comfort of my Mac!
Gator vs. GAIN

In my experience, Gator is not as much of a problem as GAIN (Gator Advertising & Information Network) - where Gator is the e-wallet, GAIN is the ad (spy) ware. Getting rid of Gator isn't so hard, but removing GAIN involves removing the application its using - for most Windows users this would mean removing IE, and we all know how difficult that can be...
44,100 samples/sec is not analog, and any true audiophile would tell you that analog is much higher quality. it is near impossible to buy music in an uncompressed format - anything digital is technically compressed because of sampling.
i don't have a high quality reel to reel or turntable any more anyway... and couldn't afford the 2" tape to boot
If I'm giving up my clock cycles, it's not really free, is it?
I have come to believe there is no "free music", just a point where ones tolerance is higher than the perceived level of annoyance caused by the "not free" (whether it's commercials, Carson Daily, or unused processor cycles...)
Once upon a time, they did ("the take it home, try it out" idea)... If i remember right, it was right after Apple introduced the Mac. You could go down to the local Apple dealer, fill out some paperwork, and take a Mac home for a test drive. I think that at that time the price was so high ($5,000+), that they didn't have much sucess with the program.
Of course, that's when a GUI OS was brand new and OS X was at least 15 yrs away...
the Antarctic Treaty of 1959 lays out a lot of the "ownership", based on scientifically active countries - I think 12 originally and 39 total are now involved. It has a lot to do with active research.
Specific land claims are a little different, with countries closest to Antartica being most active in maintaining historical claims.

in the near future they can just purchase "lab grown spam!"
Being an iPod owner I see the need for a stand, but none of thesse creations (or commercial offerings that I've seen, for that matter) come close to matching the the iPod aesthetically. Why is it the modders can cut holes and put windows in cases (and even hard drives), but we can't come up with anything remotely good looking or cool for our iPods... as I re-read this I guess I don't want windows anywhere near my iPod
Aggreed. O'Reilly books are great - they have all the information one could want and none of the fluff. Sometimes hard to just sit and read, but when you want a soultion, example, definition, etc., they are the best.
battle bots was so much better when it was a pay-per-view event. no crappy commentary, just robots smashing each other. it lasted something like 3 hours! it was still PPV in the spring of 2000. if i remember right, the first season on CC was a rehashed version of the last PPV (that I saw, at least.)
The article mentions some 70 fixes that the MacBU helped fix in OS X... 70 seems like such a big number when compared to the constant stream of Windoze fixes/patches/security updates that roll out of Redmond.
I'm glad that Apple actually recoginzes security problems and resolves them quickly.
As to stealing the thunder, I've only head about the not-so-exciting-things to be released at the Steve-note (17" iMacs, Jaguar's early relese, etc.)

the audio on a CD is already lossy...
