    We just got some testing documentation back from one of our clients. Some of the questions asked
    PROVE that humans and chimps are closely related.

    Not only are they closely related, but the chimps have worked out how to type and use MS Word as well.

    Just the "bad guys".

    Given the current average of 2 "bad guys" to every
    1000 people in the US (The other 998
    people, hereafter known as the "moral majority"),
    that shouldn't be a problem. The logistical
    problems of tracking 600,000 "bad guys"
    throughout the U.S. will be a aided by the
    introduction of mandatory "Neighbourhood watch"
    schemes. (Brown shirts will be optional).

    If my job was so boring/uneventful/restrictive that you I needed to fake working, I think I'd
    start looking for a new job.

    You can only fake it for so long before you are going to get caught. Unless you work for the
    government or other large bureaucracy, in which case you could probably carry on until they hand
    you that nice gold watch for long service.

    The feature sets of Firebird and Postgresql differ, they are used for different purposes.

    I haven't got the unit in front of me.
    However...
    Nintendo appear to call it an "NR Writer".
    But I think it is just an unbadged Matshita/Panasonic external SCSI DVD-R Burner.

    Maybe it is not for creating production discs, and only works with the Dev Kit version of the Game Cube.

    I am actually using the DVD burner that we bought with our Nintendo Dev kit to burner normal DVD-Rs. I wasn't sure it would work.

    Does the hardware spin the DVD-R backwards?
    if so surely this must be controlled by the software?

    The media is basically 8cm DVD. I think the encryption is probably done in software.

    The only problem with using an AVI is that it won't be playable on a stand-alone DVD player.
    The story submitter had stated that the tapes had already started to deteriorate.
    So VCD or DVD MPeg-2 352x288 is probably good enough.

    You CAN store more than 2 hours of video on a DVD, just create the videos
    in VCD format (MPEG-1 video), and store them on a DVD disk. This will give
    you around 7 and a half hours of video per DVD.

    As you are converting from VHS, the quality has probably already degraded to
    the point where using a codec that captures the full PAL or NTSC signal is not
    really warranted.

    One of the new VIVO capable ATI or NVidia graphics cards will suffice for
    capturing the video files (they usuaully come with simple video capture software).

    Then I'd recommend using TMPG Enc http://www.tmpgenc.net/ to encode the files.

    Which you can bet is usually because...
    The singer they are working with has a voice that requires hiding behind effects.

    captilatist Mecca that the USA is.

    Is your "health care" system an aspect of your so called "nation of compassion"?

    While I'm sure that Free/Open Source software will eat into some of the profits of proprietary
    software companies, there will always be people willing to pay for a higher quality product.


    They aren't paying for a "higher quality product", they are paying for the PERCEPTION that they are getting a "higher quality product". Once people realise the perception is wrong, the large and very visible software companies fall.

    As what he is saying is nonsense, what does he get out of saying it?
    Is he just being a media whore? or is there some _reason_ to make such claims?

    Oracle may have a shakey future, but some of us are doing quite well out of the software industry, and WILL BE for the forseeable future.
