Paying the full cost of their work doesn't guarantee working in your interest, it could also be construed as 'Hey, here's someone willing to pay me, I bet I could get him to pay me some more'.
But the main thing I think would be reputation and prior experience. And ad might inform me that a new product exists but I wouldn't buy it based on the ad. I might buy it based on prior experience with other products from the same company. I might buy it based on a review from a site that over time has gained my trust or based on an aggregate of different reviews. If I had to consider agendas like which articles were written or funded by the advertiser I don't know I'd trust the source in the first place.
A step down from Gnome2? I've always assumed that one of the major points of open source software is to act as a sort of ratchet, not having to revert to a worse state once a certain state is reached.
Oh come on, dead in a manner of months? What crevice of your personal biology are you pulling that number out of? Presumably you haven't even used one yourself based on what you're writing. If you're writing enough to your SSD to make any significant dent in its lifespan you're probably running some sort of heavy server and should probably get a more expensive SSD that's suited for that purpose. SSDs come with extra space (I think like 7-10%) so wear leveling still has some safety room when the drive is full (though personally I'd never reach the point where my main system drive is full anyway, SSD or HDD). And sure they'll die eventually but so will any other hardware, motors wear out, capacitors leak, fans die. From personal experience and data from the likes of AnandTech an SSD is going to fail long after it's been made obsolete by several generations of larger, cheaper, faster drives and you'll be able to monitor its wear level.
Can't be elected without being overtly religious? I've lived in Israel for 21 years and though some of that time I wasn't old enough to care about politics, I don't remember a candidate's* personal religious convictions ever being an issue. In fact as far as I know most if not all prime ministers were secular and an orthodox person is not very likely to appeal to the general electorate.
As for acts of war regarding Iran, if you're referring to the scientist assassinations (since I can't think of anything else, well there was this thing with spy squirrels a while back), it may very well be Israel but it could also be the US or some other state actor. As for what Iran has done, it has supplied organizations across at least three of Israel's borders with funds, weapons, training, and instructions which have been used to target and kill Israeli civilians (some Arab Muslims as well, but those have been declared martyrs retroactively, so that alright then).
I don't usually feel the need to defend Israel but are you really comparing Israel to a country where you can get executed for drinking a beer or writing some software that a porn site happens to run on and coming to the conclusion that out of the two Israel is a theocracy?
*I use that term loosely because the vote isn't for a candidate, rather for a party, the prime minister just usually happens to be the person who is leading the largest party
Poaching is also 'the process of gently simmering food in liquid, generally milk, stock or wine', clearly Gabe Newell's hunger for human flesh has must be satisfied... for now...
Surely sir or madam, you cannot be correct. She clearly states "Here is an empirical truth about Wikipedia: Aesthetically, it is remarkably unattractive" and I'm sure she wouldn't make such a claim without some sort of double blind study that tests the assertion.
Well, speaking for myself, I wouldn't get up in arms on sloppy quoting like that, but as a general rule I'd find someone taking credit for my work a lot more offensive than using it without permission.
I'm not really part of the open source community but as an outside observer it seems to me this sentiment is exactly how many of the licenses work so it doesn't seem an inconsistent view at all for people on a site like Slashdot.
Personally I found some new features that I like. Proper taskbar support for multiple monitors (I currently use UltraMon but it would be nice for that to be native). File transfer queueing (Again, I currently use TeraCopy but I'd rather it be done without third party applications) Storage Spaces might be interesting, sounds like what Drobo is doing, sort of like RAID with variable sized drives.
I lament the loss of the start menu because that's how I launch all my applications and Metro is useless to me but I guess I can install Launchy again.
Yeah, I'm seeing comments on a news story about it saying "See, we told you god was real, now science proves it" So please, anyone planning to make discoveries about the fundamental nature of the universe, please keep the religious wording to a minimum.
A friend of mine told me about a studio he worked for where they got explicit permission from Autodeks to use cracks for Maya so they wouldn't have to deal with the copy protection.
Heh, you actually think Romney an Obama actually sat down to write those answers themselves?
You can use the bankers to weigh the lawyers down when you dispose of them at sea.
Bonus points for being biodegradable.
You'd think that with all the early childhood blunt head trauma you'd have a harder time remembering that.

All content has an agenda.
Plans to begin working on Windows 8 were drafted before Obama was even elected, clearly George Bush The Lesser is at fault here.
Bitch please, Surface 3.11 for workgroups.
I know Ballmer is known to shoot a toe once in a while but I doubt he's dumb enough to blow both his legs clean off.
Buffer overflow attack.
That is all.

Wow, your computer department offered courses in pedantry?
Grading must have been hell.

There will be three sea shells included but you'll never figure out how to use them.
"See, I told you they'd listen to Reason," Fisheye says, shutting down the whirling gun.
Now Hiro sees a nameplate tacked onto the control panel.

Better that than a Zune user, he'd be asking you to squirt things at him.

For it to have been devalued you'd have to assume it had any value in the first place.

Oh, forgot to mention that the new task manager looks a lot better.

Plus, watching playthroughs on Youtube, the characters are more compelling than the TV show.
