Every single comment here missed the point but I'm sure few actually read the article. The developer was not whining about not getting in to the top apps list. He was saying that most sales are done during the few weeks in the top apps list and that his company can't legitimize spending the money to develop complex applications because there may not be enough of a return.
He's not whining that he isn't in the top apps section, he's saying that the system is flawed if that's the only way to get prominent placement enough to generate sales. He doesn't suggest a solution; rather, he points out that Steve Jobs and everyone at Apple is smart enough to figure out a solution. It's a valid point that was, unfortunately, lost on most people who read the letter.
Just wanted to say that I know quite a few people who love watching the movie previews both in theatres and on DVD's. I agree 100% that it should be optional, though, and you should be able to fast forward through them all at least. Most of my DVDs are like that. You can't really go by me, though -- I haven't purchased a DVD or CD in a year or two (CD's longer) since all of this pointless litigation began.
I kind of go back and forth on this issue. Yeah, the MPAA sued a grandfather for $600k (I don't remember the exact specifics) and it would be fitting for them to get suits filed against them. On the other hand, wouldn't having legal action harm the cause in general?
Opening these protocols to FOSS projects is not likely to cause Microsoft irreparable harm. The only danger I could imagine is that opening them will expose a megaplex of holes in the protocols and we'll see a rush of exploits that make the worst Microsoft security issue in its history seem like a minor incident. Then it will harm Microsoft because it will cost them billions in sales as people migrate to non-Microsoft server software to escape the invasion of worms and other exploits poking through those holes.
Would that not be classified as "irreparable harm"?
Is this really necessary?

Could this be the end of lazy IE-only scripted webpages?
Is anyone else getting tired of every news story possibly being the end of something? This summary would have been perfectly informative without that wonderful bit of speculation.
You know, you don't have to upgrade. The computer and software and songs you use now will work now and for a long time to come. You don't have to shell out $199 for the next version of Windows, you can just stick with what you have.
But it is more fun to bitch about something, right?
At first I was just going to mod you down but have instead decided to respond to your troll.
Homosexuality was in the DSM as a treatable psychological disorder up till 1973.
This is indicative of the trustworthiness of such things. Please...
Clearly, the entire DSM is useless because homosexuality was a mental disorder in 1973. Please.
Most of psychology rests upon a few semi-understood brain chemicals and the ethereal realm of consciousness which no one can define, but lots of people are manufacturing lucrative careers pretending to understand.
You haven't said anything here.
If psychology is so effective, why do women go to shrinks and get drugs rather than undergo Freudian psychoanalysis? I've sat in on several sessions for an agoraphobic individual - with multiple shrinks, mind you - and saw no actual psychoanalysis attempted.
Psychoanalysis takes several years to undergo. Plus, it's ineffective and entirely outdated. Sigmund Freud brought us the concept of an unconscious mind, which is great. Most of his other theories are not. You want to cure an agoraphobic? Go see an NLP practitioner. Or better yet, get Richard Bandler himself.
Ponder also, when was the last time you heard of someone being let out of a mental institution without being on semipermanent drug therapy?
The pro-shrink defense squad can go get stuffed, the truth is the truth.
Do you know why someone coming out of a mental institution would be on drug therapy? Perhaps because of a chemical imbalance in their brain. Drugs can, in turn, help that. Although I'm not arguing with you that drugs are way too prevalent as cures.
There's still a lot we don't know about the human brain and unconscious processes. But we're working on it. One of the main problems in psychology is that it's based on the medical model. If something is broken how do we fix it? How many of you go to a psychologist and say you feel great now but you'd like to feel twice as good?
The pro-shrink defense squad can go get stuffed, the truth is the truth.
Ok, cool... Psychology can stop now, thanks. Appreciate it.
I have no idea why you got modded up.
And to the original poster, if you'd really like to get your sister the best help possible, look up Dr. Richard Bandler. He does some of the most cutting edge work in psychology.

Are you absolutely sure the project lead didn't get permission?
I always figured the lack of wifi had more to do with battery life than anything else, personally.
What if you lose your iPod and the person who finds it shares your music over p2p?
I'd vote for you.

And no, I'm not new here.
Well, I know _far more_ people running OSX than linux.

It's a dirty, underhanded, shrewd thing to do.
I'm surprised more politicians hadn't thought of this sooner.
