I'm quite sorry, but space is going to be profitable from 2007 and onwards.
How can I make such a bold statement? Well, check out the Rotary Rocket. It'll launch SSTO, fully reusable at 7 million a pop. Seeing as quite a few people are willing to pay 20 million to go stay up in space (and I know I would be if I had the cash), think of the market for that kind of money...I bet it's more than just 20/7=3 times as many.
As you can see, the first proffitable commerce in space was communication. The second is tourism. Screw functionality...it doesn't have to be functional to be profitable. Tourism might not be as noble as space telescopes, but they're going to be bringing in the bucks.
Thing is, there's lots of thing which we learn of 'up there' that tell us how things are 'down here' and help us fix them. Green house effect was first discovered on Mars and paved the way for the discovery of what is going on here. Polution, weather, crumbling/shrinking icecaps, depleted fishery and other environmental effects are all best seen from space. We still desperately need the info we're getting from there, so much so that the minor economic twitters here on earth are not secondary or even tertiary concerns compared to what we get from spacebased imaging. Let alone the communication aspect....face it, the economic aspects in the US, EU et al are trivial, seasonal lulls.
The great Douglas Adams was before you in that analysis; if the universe is infinite in size, and humans (or any other life combined) is finite in number, the population is finite/infinte=0...therefore the universe has a population of 0!
Yeah, but it's funny: I never used to use the TODO function until I started doing mayor projects (i'm not talking school stuff here, I'm talking thousand person events). Then I 'discoverd' that ToDo was a real lifesaver.
Actually, Britney is beautiful. Why? Because she, or at least her face, is symetrical; and symetry is a benchmark for beauty (as is the ratio's between different body measurements...which she has too).
Now what's interesting is that people get accorded status when they rise to the top of a group. And when they rise to the top of a group, that helps their selfesteem, which causes a positive feedback loop. This is one of the reasons there are so many communities; that creates all the more groups where people can rise to the top of their community and feel good about themselves.
As for Britney and Kelly, I sence a resentment rising from the fact that you didn't get to bonk them:) But no matter...the rest of us didn't either;)
Hey, who wouldn't want to have a nice Ewok rug in the house? Or as a stylish, yet statement making faxhion accessory? Man, if I can get Ewok-skinning as a skill, I've so bought myself a subscription:)
ad 1)uhm...these guys shared loads of info on NWN, before it came out. They mnade a lot of use of the feedback, too. True, some things they did made no sense (scooterb's import/export scripts come to mind...then months later Bioware finally releases their scripts..grr), but overall, they keep people in the know and (if you've been following the patches and changes to the negine/scripting) have been implementing a lot of feedback. The only other company to make this kind of effort is I think iD and Epic.
ad 2)WTF? the shift/ctrl/alt+Fkey bar is one of the best UI to make it inot games in the last couple of years! Plus the rotary rightclick system works mucho efficiently.
Overall, methinks you haven't played their latest games...or have you?
Reading this just makess that god character more and more ridiculous. The hoops you jump through...BTW, why aren't creatures just popping into existence now then? God got bored?
Nah...the dispoof of a being compliant to all the abilities above can't exist due to the paradoxes involved (ie creating something he/she/it can't lift and lifting it).
Dumbing the powers down, and restricting its responsibilities (ie he's responsible for the earth being flat, oh no...uh...the planets spinning round...uhhh...well, he created gravity!) just proves more and more that a god is a lie which is losing more and more credibility with every discovery made. The real question is why does humanity need a god/pantheon in the first case? True, religion is a great control mechanism, but why do so many buy into it?
Although I absolutely agree with your thought that man should think long and hard about the consequences (and how to avoid certain ones), I think that ultimately, we should be thankfull for the deterent nukes have formed. I'm against nuclear weapons, but without them, the US and USSR would have certainly gone up against each other in a full 'hot' war, instead of just using other nations to do so.
What about the food you eat? The watre you drink? The medicines which make you better? Good, right?
As for cloning...why is this bad? Tell me...give me ONE reason based on reason and not religion (which, having caused more war and suffering than anything else on this earth does not really make it credible at all). Shit, clone Adolf Hitler for all I care. The environment and experiences mould you, man. If AH hadn't been a messenger during WWI, he probably wouldn't have been what he became. And there are loads of reasons why cloning can be considered good; replacement organs, for example.
Anyway, you're typing that from a climate controled house, on a friggin pc...so what exactly is your excuse?
Problem is, they don't do mathematica, do they? I only checked Netsolve, and they do support Matlab, which is handy, but it's not mathematica.
As for Ninf, seems like a lot of programming is require to tailor it to your application.
So they don't natively support mathematica. And trust me, when you're a student or modeling something professionally (ie getting paid for it), you're already busy with your own maths to want to do extra work.
Just out of curiosity...was that a joke or is it really that 'ouch!' over on that side of the pond? I thought real estate was significantly cheaper (even in the cities)...
True...so the argument isn't faulty:) But the point I'm trying to make is the use of the "Ich habe nichts gewußt" attitude. If you know something is wrong, you shouldn't do it.
"Have a problem with someone using the law "creatively" to their benefit? Then it's the clients fault."
Yeah, technically that is true. But what Enron was doing was also (mostly) technically legal. The lawyer is the enabler here, so is equally guilty, morally. Not so under law, true, but that is exactly the problem here. Does a murderer need representation? Yes. Should he get off when he's proven to be one? No. Should he be let off on a technicality? No, the person who made that technical error should be punished, not the guilty rewarded.
Sure there's pizza delivery...it just costs you $20.000.010 for a pie :)

Well, I can do it...but I've already posted my summary above :)
You haven't missed anything.
The article basically says: he dun-it and he's an employee. What it doesn't say is why he dun-it, though.
The great Douglas Adams was before you in that analysis; if the universe is infinite in size, and humans (or any other life combined) is finite in number, the population is finite/infinte=0...therefore the universe has a population of 0!
You think we'll be lucky enough to find one which by chance is doing a handstand at the correct moment? Oh, yeah...you did say alien :)
The last part of your .sig reads: "looks (or 'reads') different"...you might at least want to use 'altum auditur', meaning "is heard differently" :)
Yeah, but it's funny: I never used to use the TODO function until I started doing mayor projects (i'm not talking school stuff here, I'm talking thousand person events). Then I 'discoverd' that ToDo was a real lifesaver.
Also don't forget CplxCalcPro or GraphOne..great programable, equation solving, graphic calculators on the palm.

As someone playing a rogue...I don't really see your problem: *shrug* no different from Diablo.
As for CameraHack...yup, that should have been in ther from the start; OTOH, I know uite a few people who don't like it...

The answer to your miseries is rather simple: teach your kid to do his own goddamn re-installs! ;)
Watch 'Brazil' by Terry Gilliam if you get the chance. You'll like it :)

You should be modded 'Insightfull' (or at least 'Stating What Should Be Obvious'.
Ohh, sigh, where do I start?
What about the food you eat? The watre you drink? The medicines which make you better? Good, right?

Apply this argument to an assasin. Where do you end up?
An invalid argument.
