I think you should take a look at the accomplishments of Ikonos / GeoEye / Nextview / World view. Commercial satellites capable of 6" resolution with optical systems 1/3 the size of the supposed goverment systems.
Then again, who knows what the goverment systems are truly capable of. Wiki Corona and follow the stories, amazing stuff.
The bolt is the same regardless of whether it's used in a Chevy Aveo or an Abrams Battle Tank. The cost comes for the 30 lbs of paperwork that needs to accompany said bolt stating the it does indeed meet the advertised specifications, the traceability of the part and the documentation of the manufacturing procedures.
Throw in the additional workforce requirements, stir with a couple of meetings between parties and flavor with outlandish shipping requirements.
Every year is going to be the year of Linux because the previous years claim of year of Linux fell a bit short. Again.
Linux is a great operating system. It's flexibility, versatility, open standards and lets face it, cost of ownership make it very attractive to technical applications. It will always fall short in the typical desktop market because it is perceived as being something geeky.
With a pickled mind, We kick the nipple beer. Steady as a goat, We're flying over trout. Getto down the highway At the speed of light. All I want to feel now is The wind in my eyes. Sack of monkeys in my pocket, My sister's ready to go.
GPS is not above making mistakes either, although I'm sure the incident of miscalculations drop as one moves up the quality ladder.
My Garmin recently reported my max speed as 142 mph. While conceivable that I could hit that in an auto, it's highly doubtful on my loaded touring bike.
Isn't it the Japanese Constitution that restricts what their military is allowed to do?
Honestly, for the amount of shit (rightfully so in some situations) that we've taken for having bases in the region, I'd opt for letting them beef up their offensive and defensive capabilities. Let them pay for the $600 hammers for awhile.
Of course that assumes you have a turntable. As I child of the 70's, I've still got tons of vinyl and the requisite turntable, but I can't recall the last time I spun some wax.
But how many people still have a player. When was the last time you saw one for sale at an electronics store?
That cheap stuff would still be made regardless of whether WalMart was the retailer. Do you for one moment think that Target and the other big box stores get their products from some alternative world?
The American consumer drives the market and we won't pay one more penny than we have to. WalMart just profits from our greed.

The battery is soldered in because
1 Cheaper to manufacturer
B More positive connection
III Hamper the aftermarket replacement
Since the vaunted iPhone doesn't have GPS capability, your tin-foil conspiracy looks rather lame.
