For your information you can run Linux on Mac PPC hardware, so your arguement makes little sense. If MS could lock Linux out of the PC platform, do you think they would do it?
Yes but stealing someone elses source code and releasing a commercial product based on it is illegal. You need a valid license from the copyright holder to distribute someone elses work.
You can indeed put a Java app in the Windows system tray. The same code will also put it in the Gnome system tray in Linux for example - all part of the Java Desktop open source tools at;
Morpheous should have died on the roof of the truck in reloaded. He does nothing the rest of the film(s). This would have supprised us and given the film some dramatic impact.
You are 100% correct. They have to allow access to the UK, German and French stores to *any* EU citizen! That is the whole point of a free trade/single market area!
Because the APE module attaches to every running application, if it is itself unstable, it can make all your applications unstable.
Because its not run in kernel space it can't cause a kernel panic and make the OS unstable BUT having all your apps crash out regularly fits most definitions of an unstable system.
(I'm not saying that APE modules *are* unstable, just that if one was it would cause problems)
The last CD I bought was 5.95 from Amazon.co.uk - why on EARTH would I want to spend 9.99 to get it in an inferior compressed format; even if i DID have a machine that could run their crappy software! (Gentoo & MacOS X is all I've got).
As with my other CD's I'll be ripping it to disk when I get it then putting the original safely away.
(yes I know CD's are evil and so are amazon, but hey well)
I don't see how it stops you buying a iPod - you do realise that an iPod will play *non* encrypted MP3 and AAC files? I'd guess that 99% of music on iPods is *not* from the iTunes store!
- Following that logic it would mean that if you stole somebodys stereo, and gave it back some point later, then you would not have done anything illegal.
No - that would be theft, not breach of copyright. They are two very different things.
I've been using Mandrake since version 7 with Java every day of the week, through Java versions 1.2, 1.3, 1.4 with JVM's from Sun, IBM and BEA, and I've never had any problems... just a simple install.
It sounds more like you have Java installed BUT your browser isn't seeing a plug in. If your using Mozilla copy the plug in from your JRE folder to mozilla/plugins. This will work with Galleon as well.
You can see if Java is installed by doing java --version at the command line.
Oh please, get a grip. In no way are you breaking the law if you rip MP3's - particularly commercial rippers that will have paid the patent holds. Even with open source rippers you've not broken any copyright - the ripper is written from scratch. Now software patents on the other hand...
This would depend on how the Jar was used surely? If the JAR were a database driver (for instance) loaded dynamically by Java's built in driver manager and used for the connection, your code would not talk to the GPL code directly at all!
However the Java VM implementation (non-GPL) would talk to the driver, so if this is not allowed what is the point of releasing GPL drivers at all?
Mono is not.net
As I implied programs produced using Microsoft.net will not be portable, either source portable or binary. They won't run under Mono, due to the use of Windows API. They might run under Mono + Wine.
As I said programs written using Mono, will be portable, but so are programs written using GTK. Its just a new (arguably better) object framework, a la OpenStep, KDE, Gnome etc.
"There is nothing more portable than being able to run a binary (sort of) on a host of different machines"
Which is just what you can't do with.net - or can you send me a binary I can run on my Mac, Linux box and Win2K box?
"My happiness with.net goes up with the implementation of mono..net is standardized, and open source is built on portability. "
From what I've heard its almost impossible to write anything in.net without using the Windows API as well.
So you'll end up with Windows.net Apps that are no more portable than at present, and Open Source Mono apps that run well on all platforms with a recompile (just like most current Open Source Apps).
Well from the spec's its got hot swapable redunant power supplies, hot swapable redundant cooling subsystem, hot swapable redundant RAID controllers, hot swapable RAID cache battery backup (72 hours), and supports fibre channel output, through a well priced card.
Saying IDE doesn't cut it is a bit of a generalisation.
Are you aware that the Brian Aldiss book ends just at that point?

This is total rot - the UK law does NOT give you the right to a refund within 30 days with no reason! You only have a right to a refund IF:
The goods are NOT of merchantable quality.
The goods are 'sight unseen' - e.g. mail order.
There are plenty of places that will not give goodwill refunds.

That would be true if the CD's were stolen, rather than being an infringement of copyright...
Hey - I looked out of the Window and didn't see any chinses people! All that crap about 1/5 of the worlds population - its a boax!

Wow - a setup like this will be perfect for when Apple brings out MacOS X on Intel!
