Yeah, You do need a mod-chip but join http://www.operationprojectx.com/, they are trying to get around that by finding the key for the xbox programs. I don't know if divx "certified" necessarily means the quality is better, I'm sure that certification requires some "special" terms that a OSS project like Xbox Media Player. I do believe that certified probably means less "problems" but as the XBMP project matures I am sure the divx decoding and playback will be just as good, if it isn't already.
That was Divix, that crappy rent a dvd and dial in and if it verifies you can play it service. Keep the dvd and its just trash because after so many times it expires. That lasted about a week.
I have a nice little black box that sits on my desk next to me that does DivX playback, Ogg, MP3. You name it. DVD playback works also. I can run MAME on it, and play console games from tons of different consoles including Xbox. Not to mention the ability to run Linux, doubt that dvd player can do that.
Works great you just need to copy a KEY on the drive over, other than that it is standard pc/except the dvd rom drive.
If you have a XBox thats modded and all that, well then for another 100$ you can have a PVR fuck tivo.
I think its great that Red Hat keeps releasing. Some people believe they are too "Microsoft-ish" and are lacking stability. I must say though, out of the box is is the easiest, and most friendly distro there is. Though it comes with a lot of services running by default, well more than a base Gentoo install (heh). Gentoo is cool and there may be a "speed" increase, but Red Hat installs in under an hour (with X and Gnome), when Gentoo takes forever to compile.
Red Hat is going to be a competitor against Microsoft, and its becoming obvious now and the key to that is its user friendly for the masses, even my sister uses it now as a primary os its just that easy and full featured.

We run red hat 7.2 on most our production server. Run perfect... maybe someone has hardware isues...
I disagree on this. Boycotting Lindows, why? All they are doing is trying it help, maybe its not the perfect but its a step in the right direction. Running default as root is pretty dangerous, but then again this is a altenative to windows, you have to give the users a "similar" experience. A lot of Windows users that might buy a WalMart Lindows PC might not know whats going on when they get prompted for a password, might think its broke or get scared. I know its a sad truth but the majority of the markey still aren't very tech savvy. I also believe AOL for Lindows will hopefully get the word out that Linux is also for the desktop not for those enormus expensive servers.
I think that this should be a cool tech, of course going to be expensive. Make a cool storage device bus; maybe even some backup devices. I know we could use one on this interface where I work.
So does this mean soon we will be able to download a movie in a scripted language and let our video cards render it in real time and watch a "open source" movie? Will the MPAA pay congress to enable some Digital Rights Managment in the cards? I think these are interesting ideas and I really thing a Open Source movie would be pretty cool, not to mention most likely a fast download.
I think its going to suck when a robot curses at me on the street in the future; or when they decide to cut in the movie line. Maybe even when you blow-chunks outside a club they laugh at you. Its going to be a cruel robotic future. I can already see it, im so pathetic even the robots will laugh.
Well, an ISP I work (small) for is thinking about creating a wireless network in sacramento providing access, interesting idea, one I think is going to have a lot of movement in the future; I personally would love to have "fast" wireless access.
Look at the mockup; it looks like they used zippers for a wing. Reminds me of the Hoover Car they were developing back at UC Davis 20 years ago; and are still developing there. Grant Money.
The RIAA could give a damn; as long as they can figure out a way to get more money for it. They virtually hold artists prisoner and then act in "their" defense. The RIAA has just been lucky enough to buy the right senators. MP3 Article, in there I have a feeling that they are just the RIAA's little fall guy. Just happens to be that they work on digital copyrights.
I just assume that children dont get spoiled to death by electronic equipment. Makes a kid lazy, I'm the perfect example. Give that kid a baseball and a bat let him get outside and play ball, and not Homerun on nintendo.

yeah actually it was Divx sorry. It stopped in late 1999 so that is old news ;)

Who was pedaling to power the sattelite? Or did they use that nasty nuclear stuff?

in the about box: "based on CDex 1.50b6, Copyright (c) 1999-2002 Albert Faber"
What about Apple stealing from Xerox?
We are all criminals and we let our children do as we do! we are animals I tell you! Check this pro- RIAA article and laugh it up.

Awesome for Seti@Home. I have been active with them for years now. I enjoy distributed project. I also enjoy Grub a distributed search engine project.
