  1. Re:Also, electrical steering ? on Review Of GM's HyWire Hydrogen Concept Car · · Score: 1

what's skid steering? braking the left tire while accelerating the right tire and never turning the wheels? if so i don't really see how you'll park it, not to even mention tire wear. i think they said they'd still use tie rods, but they'll drive them with an electric motor.

They said steering would be operated by an electrical motor... Wtf happens when your motor dies? And I'm not talking about the first few years, but like 20yrs/200kmi down the road. Yeah, I know there are aviation/military spec motors, but they don't live forever either and probably get replaced periodically. All it takes to lose steering is a loose/corroded conncetion, possibly inside the motor, and 20 years is a looong time.

Fyi all steering systems on (I belive) all cars have a direct metal-on-metal conncetion between steering wheel and front wheels. This can't fail unles some big chunk of steel breaks, and that's why steering failure is the last thing you have to worry about while driving today. Yes, power steering can fail in the sense that you lose the power assistance, but you can still turn if you force the wheel.

Another thing that puzzles me, they claim it gets rid of steering & brake fluids to be more enviro-friendly. But then they say it still uses conventional (Brembo) calipers. I'll be damned...

That's because the cooling system can't do jack and the only cooling they actually got is the engine's own thermal capacity. So they better get to that finish line in 4+ sec, or... kaboom!

I only went to Vegas once and didn't notice it there, but I saw it after I processed my films. Happened to take a telephoto of the tower from the car on our way home...

Also, why would they want to stop this free advertising? It's not about advertising. The danger is much greater: if these price comparison sites gain enough popularity then most customers would have a powerful tool, the market will become close to ideal, and prices will be forced down. Big retailers don't want customers to have power, they want them weak and exploitable. Walking to 5 different stores is too much of a trouble for average Joe, thus he'll buy from the nearest store and prices can be kept monopolistic that way. The only leverage the big retailers have is to ask not to be included in those sites, and then average Joe, not seeing any known names will leave, and go to BestBuy instead.

There are only two ways we can have a stable wold peace:

    1. The whole thing is just one big country (e.g. if someone succeedes in becoming untouchable and dictates world rules).
    or,
    2. The only entity that is strong enough to overpower anyone is a majority of the world nations combined.

Trouble is the US seems happy with aiming for the first alternative, which is exactly what sparks arms races, cold wars, etc. Another thing which worries me is that Americans got used to the idea that they can go to war without suffering any casualties. So they don't really care what the govt is doing. Like in: if we can drop oil prices by going to war then why not? That's very very wrong if you want to have world peace, war should be something you think more than twice before comitting to it. Not the case any longer.

As for the muslims et co. you take care of that as described in (2).

Nope, we don't. Only a small percentage of the population (something like 5%) is intelligent enough to understand how the economy and the government work (or don't). For every smart person who can cast an intelligent vote there are 20 who simply can't think by themselves and will vote whatever the TV/radio/newspaper tells them to vote. That way intelligent people are reduced to a powerless stance. They could talk, but noone would listen because they can't talk to 200M (corporations own that right).

In short, I'm inclined to think that the only difference between the US an Iraqi administrations is that one uses physical means to stay in power while the other psychological (mass-media == mass-manipulation). But maybe that's just me, ah well.
