This guy along with a buch of thuggers are reapeating what Goebbels had done in Nazi Germany. Just reapeat the lies again and again and it will pay off. I wish they have the same fate as Nazis at the end of all these.
What the hello are you talking ? RIAA is suing victims which inclue even 12 year old girl. They even target people who are sharing files for THEM and not for any business purpose. Anti spammers are suing those who are running huge business by flagrantly abusing internet email which was otherwise an excellent tool for communication.
In fact this is an interesting point. If RIAA stop being assholes and try to make business out of technology rather than trying to turn the tide, they have a future. Otherwise , they will end up in being thrown in to the garbage of history like whip manufacturers. Regardles of any litigation or anything , people would never stop sharing things they possess. Its an inherent human instinct. And modern technology make it just possible. The only way out for RIAA is to sunchronise their business model with the techonolgical revolution and try to profit out of it.
Its because average american is not aware of any real life issues. He is simply herded by the mainstream media and the news "manufactured" by them. Thats not the case in Europe or other part of the world where real life issues are reflected in the media to a great extend. And I think its because of the decentralisation of media infrastructure in these countries. So small players and public entities contribute to the diversity of the news. In US media(mostly) owned by a bunch of business groups who treat it just like any other profit generating business. Goverement agencies like BBC and small magazines/newspapers like "La monde" are good examples.
Since when is it decided that software should be an exlusively private industry ? These governments have every right to decide what should be produced/encouraged in the public sector and what not. As software is a critical component of national security and public infrastructure whats wrong in making an initiative in the pubic sector rather than following a "laizzes fair" approach ? In fact its understandable that an increaed public sector involvement could make the softares more secure rather than those produced by these corporations whose sole motivation is profit.
People criticize mircosoft not because that more vulnerabilities are reported on that platform but because of their approach to the entire issue. Even though microsoft releases patches/fixes for the vulnerablities, sysadmin cant install them with confidence as they are notorius for breaking existing applications and softwares. Then comes the rebooting issue. For almost every pathes, you need to reboot the machine, which is not the case with linux ( except kernel pathces). All these make it extremely difficult to patch the MS systems REGULARLY AND FAST . People cant afford to have extensive test, install, reboot...blah blah on server systems. This is the reason why even networks like that of BMW get infected by MS worms and exploits. On the other hand in linux , even though there are almost equal number of vulnerabilities , the fast and easy managment of patch system makes it possible for everyone to keep updated and secured.
I think you need GTK 2 libraries for Thunderbird to be installed. You have to upgrade to redhat 9 or atleast upgrade gtk for that( I am also facing the same problem BTW:-)
First of all congrats to you for making such a fine attempt Its great that someone try to see what actually these services (like iTune music store) offer and what level of FREEDOM they provide to the customers. There is no point in blindly joining the bandwagon and saying that "ohh it rocks!!". I hope this issue throw some light to the level of freedom and choice offered by these services.
I can't speak for others. But I can tell you about myself. The fundamental issue here is not whether somebody breaks they law or not. RIAA's business model is outdated. The digitalization of property is a reality and they have not yet contained it or accustomed to it. Have you ever wondered why nobody is bothering to take xerox copy of newspapers and sell it even though its possible? beccoz they cant . Newspaper industry (which see some real competetion unlike music industry where collusion and price fixing is rampant) has adapted itself to the time and developed a succesfull business model. They are no more depenedednt on advertisement revenue rather than the price of a physical copy. They have successfully contained internet too. Untill and unless RIAA make fundamental changes in their business model and adapt like this, this issue is going to continue . People WOULD share music regardless any amount of litigation or anything else. Victo Hugo had said it long back "You can stop an invading force, but you cant stop an idea whose time has come "
>"The right thing to do" is what your customers want; and their major customers want Windows solutions, not Linux.
WRONG! Many of the customers want PCs with no OS at all atleast(forget linux installed PCs for the moment) . Still they were not offering it. There is nothing preventing them technically in doing so. The only issues are non-technical/political In many third world countries like india in fact most of the people want PCs without any OS. Still they are refusing to offer it.
>Now if only dell would do the same eh!!
Actually it should be read " Now if only dell would be FORCED TO DO the same eh!! " . All these companies are in bed with microsoft and they want free/opensource to not grow as proprietery software protects their crappy business model best. All of them have been trying to prevent the growth of open source movement by all means. But when it reaches the point where they cannot do the same any more, they "JUMP" in to the open source band wagon. Thats it. Not offering the linux preinstalled desktop(or desktop without OS at all) is the best example for this practice.

Its absolutely true that Islam is a "backward" religion. Islam was always in war with science. As has been the case in europ and rest of the world in past centuary. "Islamic" church persecuted Galilio and various other scientists.Islamic "church" is even now involved in all sort of sexual abuse and harassments as its coming out in US press. The international capital of Islam, namely vatican is busy with settling out compensation claims against its priests. Lastly "Islamic countries" are engaged in war around the world. Its not an irony that the leading "Islamic country" of the world , US has engaged in many of the most brutal wars of the history in Latin america and many other parts of the world closely followed by another "Islamic country" namely Soviet Russia. Its also not irony that leading war symbols of the last centuary were all "Islamic fundamentalists" born out of "Jihad" called like Hitler, Mussolini etc. Worst of all "Islam" has contributed two major world war two the world in the last centuary. If world is to be made a peace haven , then this "backward" religion is to be controlled.
A firm which has 40 billion is not paying any tax !!!! can you believe it ? You should because that is capitalism and its newest and most sophisticated form called microsoft.
