I agree, however why didn't they start with something a little more high profile like the web browser? Sure, anyone can use a third party software package in either case and run it as default to replace WMP or IE but the media player is actually less intrusive (so far) than the browser. I for one would rather have seen less or no interaction between the OS and IE. I think that would have hurt MS 3x as much. Who knows though, maybe that'll be their next target.
I think you're forgetting the X amount of (billion) dollars that the US spends every year not just on internal but external catastrophe aid. How many other countries or nations come screaming to our aid when a disaster hits? It seems we're always the helpers and not the helpees. That's bullshit.
As a manager I've seen both sides of the coin: the one you mention where workers generally realize that they're maximizing their profit and strangely enough the more recent response of "We're just lucky to have a job." Both are legitimate responses to economic activity, however both are also the product of corporate brainwashing. Think about it. Don't reward the workers for jobs well done then outsource for cheaper labor due to "lack of efficiency and / or productivity". Now you want to resource for logistic purposes and people are thankful for a job at a 50% salary cut; and GRATEFUL to have it. Nonsense.
And so are those people who feel it's their responsibilty to take up that 1½ car length to cut me off during mean driving periods of 5 over. GOD that pisses me off! Yes, I left that space between me and the forward driver open for YOU. ONLY YOU. My mistake; I should have tailgated at 70 mph. Those are the assholes endangering lives. They are always the people who have somewhere more important to go than you and they don't care who they piss off or take out to get there. The ironic part is they never really save any time. Now that's a crime.
It should also be noted that the man performing the execution in the photo you referenced was NOT an American; he was a member of the South Vietnam security force (a general, I believe).
The pedulum does swing both ways and while agree with you on several points you have to remember that this type of technology is most likely used on the other end of the spectrum. Personally, as a manager, I look for productivity and efficiency as it relates to humans; not machinery. If, while using this technology, I find a discrepancy of 30 minutes so be it. If I find 2 hours, game on. However that's just me.
$1,000,000/day damage with no repercussions? You buttheads don't need GPS; you need different jobs. I guess it's not hard to believe you're a Teamster; after all, your job is safe, right? I'm glad you posted though....at least I know where NOT to send my business.
"Work the hardest and produce the least..." I believe the quote is. Hmmm, you've never been outside the US, have you? Until you have been, "sit down and shut the fuck up" (to steal a direct quote). Also, stop posting AC if you truly believe what you've posted has any meaning to anybody.
I read your post, twice. I think you may be onto something because there really is something about pumping a quarter into a machine that makes that next level more sweet. It's not like you can press "reset" or download cheat codes...it really is more simple and satisfying. With all the money I spent on coin-op games I could've purchased several PS2's and several hundred games, however I don't think the experience would be quite the same. I'm not saying that the money here is the motivating factor; just the experience.
Not to nitpick because I agree with you, however it's 'period','space','space','capital letter', which is also not followed by "capitol". I obviously had the time to proofread my work.
You had me until your last paragraph. The whole point of invention is twofold: 1) invent something useful to consumers or business and profit, or; 2) invent because you like to. Now, when attempting to invent outside of the corporate world, one loses time and usually money so yes; it is possible (and most likely) that an inventor loses a lot on their flops. Usually, however they're also counting on that one big hit and it rarely happens outside of the corporate world because they have the R&D dollars to support it.
I think you should take those people seriously. The content of the message by far is the most important piece of data being conveyed, however if done in an unprofessional, uneducated and inane manner it takes away from the message. I never understood why people can't make the simple distinction between to, too and two. Or better yet there, their and they're. It's simple second grade grammar. The fact that people choose to ignore it and make a valid point astounds me.
Sounds to me like your friend needs a little more common sense than an Integra.....like insurance.

Thanks for the link but that was the ugliest piece of information I've viewed in a LONG time...
Or how about not letting him install anything with proper security measures? Even Windows allows you to perform that little bit of magic.

Now THAT was a nice rant. Thanks and don't let the others drag you down!
What's wrong with the CYA scenario? I do it every day I go to work. It should be SOP.

I think you're confusing police actions with war....and we're not done with Iraq yet, which is a war.
Actually, you 'win' by not getting the loaded chamber. These people should play the same game with a .45

I guess you never actually played Pong. What a shame.

Whew. For a second there I thought you lived outside the US. Here, all kids are obnoxious.

So I guess you live in a small town. Sheesh.
You're lucky. I cherish the moment they want me to fix their PC. That way I don't have to listen to all the other drunken idiots.
I believe you are wrong.

Just spoke to a helpful person at Microsoft (Bill) and he stated Access was the way to go. I think I'll give it a try.
