  1. Mod story up on Using a Generic Tape Recorder as an Atari Cassette Drive? · · Score: 2, Insightful

Whoah, I think before the Trolls begin I would just say This is the coolest article on slashdot for ages. News for nerds stuff that happens - on slashdot?

  2. Cache it on Managing Bandwidth and Bandwidth Costs? · · Score: 1

Why not set up some sort of cache between the users and the internet, that way new requests can be served over the usual means and if other users want the same content its cached. It would have to be a large cache I know but if you used some sort of database and flushed content after 24 hours or something you may get away with a couple of hdds. This way the excess transfers are limited to your LAN rather than T1 connections.

  3. Re:Ughh...I hate previews like this on Gran Turismo 4 Preview · · Score: 1

Its because the actual game still looks like shit. Every GT they make they put out screenshots that look amazing, then when you get the game it still looks like shit.

Until these consoles start using AA driving games will continue to look like shit.

  6. My Favourite on Multiplayer Shooters For Modems And Slow PCs? · · Score: 1

I am stuck with 56k, but my favourite online game is multiplayer Delta Force: Land Warrior. Its not perfect but good enough that you can play. Not to mention that the game kicks ass.

I cant wait to get black hawk down - though I doubt 56k will be any good on that one.

  7. Re:QOTD on Optimizing KDE 3.1.x · · Score: 1

But isn't the point about what they can see, not where they are?

ie. The wise man knows about things like bugs and molecules etc, but the fool down the well can probably only see water and/or mud.

  8. QOTD on Optimizing KDE 3.1.x · · Score: 0, Offtopic

I know this is offtopic but, the quote at the bottom of the page:

A wise man can see more from a mountain top than a fool can from the bottom of a well.

This doesn't make sense does it?

Shouldn't the fool be on the mountain seeing less than the wise man in the well? may be I'm the fool.

I think its time 'Ask Slashdot' was renamed 'Too lazy to Ask Google'

  16. Its not always a bad thing on Has the Quality of Consumer Electronics Declined? · · Score: 1

Sometimes cheap electronic devices being expected to fail is a good thing. I know that whenever I splash out on something and overclock it or plug it in to a voltage adapter with too much power or whatever that when I blow the unit I dont care cos I can simply take it back for a refund or replacement unit. Its pretty cool being able to 'borrow' something from a store, wreck it and get your money back. Try doing that to a someone you know.
