Now let him lie in that bed. 7 years ain't a bad deal considering what he tried to do.

  2. That was a good decision. on T-Mobile Dumps MS SmartPhone · · Score: 1

Using MS on a phone might turn the infamous Blue Screen of Death into a literal Scream of Death if you had to call 911.....not a fun thought.

Which would make an effective commercial for a company whose competitors use MS stuff.

  3. Doesn't this issue on Copy Protection On CDs Is 'Worthless' · · Score: 1

Make you want to pound your head into the wall?

It's really so simple: If a person can see it or hear it, it can be copied. So the only solution is...

BREAKING NEWS!! The RIAA and the MPAA, in conjunction with all major media publishing groups, have announced a radical new strategy to deal with the copyig and "theft" of audio and video entertainment. Hilary Rosen of the RIAA explains, "We realized that the only way to stop people from copying our intellectual property was to stop producing copiable works.

Programmers and consumers, in their role as digital theives, were just too persistent in their efforts to circumvent our various copy protection schemes. As a result, we've stopped producing all forms of audio and visual entertainment."

  4. Nice try, Tara Sue, but no chance on One Woman's Fight to Save P2P · · Score: 1

I admire her bravery, and her willingness to fight the good fight against Howard Coble - an obnoxious fool if I ever saw one - but get real.

I used to live in Greensboro, NC, part of Mr. Coble's district. In fact I spent most of my life in that part of NC, and several years working in politics in NC.

I can tell you from first hand experience, working in past political campaigns there, that he is completely safe from any challenge. His district is drawn in such a way as to guarantee his re-election.

Which is sad, cause the fat bastard really is an almost completely-ignorant jackass, but it's also the reality on the ground.

The people of Guilford County by and far don't really care about these issues. They care about textile jobs going to Mexico (and now to China), and furniture plants closing and moving overseas as well. Unfettered P2P won't pay the mortgage.

Her cause might be noble, but is it really worth it? I think we would be better off fighting his idiotic bills, and picking our battles more intelligently.

Hey, RIAA + MPAA freaks!! You want to hack me? First get some balls and meet me face to face: then you can try your hand at hacking Mr. Smith & Wesson.

  8. Skipping on ReplayTV Users Sue Hollywood · · Score: 5, Insightful

These people - the Hollywood content industry - well, idiotic doesn't begin to describe them.

What are they going to do next? Lock the doors at the movie theater during the opening previews and commercials? Make you pay extra is you come in late and thus skip that crap?

And what about fastforwarding through the previews and commercials on videos and DVDs? Are they going to try and put anti-fast-forwarding technology in them?

"You have fast forwarded this tape illegally. Your VCR/CD/DVD will self-destruct in 5 seconds. Thank you!"

Oh shit, and what about flipping radio stations during the annoying 5 minutes of commercials they have at ten minutes to the hour, every hour? Are they going to put a special no-station-changing feature in the radio that's activated during that time?

Oh well. Even if they do I'm sure someone will figure out a way to circumvent it with a paperclip, or perhaps a magic marker. Sledgehammers probably work pretty well, too.

    What a bunch of assholes.

  11. Here's the info, folks..... on Peruvian Congressman vs. Microsoft FUD · · Score: 5, Informative

    Some fact-checking shows the following:

Congressman Edgar David Villanueva Nunez (www.congreso.gob.pe/congresista/2001/evillanueva. htm) is a real member of the Congress. His email is evillanueva@congreso.gob.pe.

If you go to the page mentioned above, you will see some pictures/buttons at the top left. Click the one that shows some fingers holding a pen ('Proyectos de ley presentados'/Projects). He apparently introduced 25 pieces of legislation in the First Session in 2001, and 7 during the Second Session.

During the First Session, he introduced Bill 1609, 'Software Libre' (Free Software). It was sent to two Committees on 7 January 2002: Education, Science, & Technology, and to Consumer Protection and Public Services Regulation.

He introduced a similar bill in the Second Session, number 2485, 'Use of Free Software by the Public Administration.' As of 12 April 2002, it is in the same Committees as the first bill (1609).

I would post both Bills here, but a) they are looong, and 2) they are en espanol. So, if you want to read them.....the full text of both Bills are available through Congressman Villanueva Nunez's page.

    Happy babelfishing!
