  1. Re:It's about time on Ardour Digital Audio Workstation Now in Beta · · Score: 1

Seriously. It was a PITA trying to configure Cubase for Windows, and I never did get it quite right. I hope this is easier to configure. I'll still never part with my beloved 424 regardless.

  2. Re:about time... on Collapsible LCD Screens · · Score: 1

Well, OK, but why couldn't you wall-mount a folding LCD? BTW, should put a NSFW warning on your 'decorations'.

  3. Re:Ive said it before.. and ill say it again. on RIAA Seeks Summary Judgement Against P2P Services · · Score: 1
This is not, however, the model that the recording/movie industry has chosen, they want to be paid.

Maybe so, but it's ultimately "the market" that decides whether or not it's a viable model.

Keep in mind, the guy behind the console in a recording studio...He's a working class shmuck

I'll buy that. The crap RIAA companies have been putting out sounds like it's made by schmucks who are just turning the crank.

  4. Elegant Universe on Physics Books for the Novice? · · Score: 1

If you've got a basic understanding of general relativity and quantum mechanics and you'd like to catch up on what's going on in physics nowadays, Brian Greene's "The Elegant Universe" is a pretty good book. It's a pretty good explanation of string theory for people who are relative beginners.

  5. Gene Kan on FSF Award for the Advancement of Free Software · · Score: 2, Insightful

How about a posthumous nomination for Gene Kan for his work on Gnutella?

  6. Re:Nice, but TOO small for my liking on New Small Form Factor PC Reviewed · · Score: 1

This is actually the perfect size for a portable digital audio workstation. I'd add an Echo Darla or Gina in there and take it to jam sessions. I think I still favor the SS40 though. I think about building a system based on one of these every time I have to lug my current DAW somewhere.

  7. Re:RIAA cares? on Music Industry Seeks Payola Inquiry · · Score: 1

I was confused by this at first, too. But if I understand correctly, the people represented by the RIAA (the major labels) would still like to dictate what radio stations play, but they don't want to have to pay them money to do it. I'm sure they're not concerned about artists.

  8. Re:Just stop paying them on Disconnecting · · Score: 1

They may report you to a credit agency, and you'll have to clean the mess up when you try to take out a loan for a new car or a house. You're stuck either way.

  9. Re:Wireless devices during a movie on Slashback: Towel, Linkage, Drafthouse · · Score: 1

Agreed. Leave the computer behind for two hours and just watch the movie. And at the Alamo you can drink beer while you watch the movie. Isn't that better than playing with your computer?

  10. Re:I've come to the conclusion... on Seems Nobody Gives A Damn About Privacy · · Score: 1

You mean that liberal mass media that's dominated by the likes of Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Pat Robertson, etc.? I hope you didn't spend too much time coming to this conclusion ;)

  11. Re:slashdotsucks on Seems Nobody Gives A Damn About Privacy · · Score: 1

Hey, that's a cool website you have there. I can almost read that tiny font. How does your web server handle all those posts?

  12. Re:Artistic and Theft are not mutually exclusive on Mashed-Up Music · · Score: 1

Performance allows one to play (using the traditional term here) any song at any time without owing anyone. It's a different story when you use someone else's recording to redistribute for the purposes of making a profit. Before you do this, you must get the artist's permission. If you don't, you deserve to get sued.
