Swimming with a very big shark is always guaranteed to be interesting, not necessarily good or bad. This is just throwing a few drops of blood in the water to spice things up.
I completely agree. I love my HP48G. I wouldn't trade if for any other calculator. (Well, maybe for a 48GX;) ). I love RPN. In fact, I've become so accustomed to it, I have difficulty using a TI-pile-of-shit when I'm forced to.
I also love the equation library. It's very useful, especially with the pictures.
I guess comparing spaceship sizes is really important to/. readers. Always reminds me of the scene in "Stand By Me" where the kids argue over the superiority of mighty mouse vs superman.
I just wanted to make a big battle and make laser noises:
Um... is my thread listing messed up? If i'm seeing this correctly, you replied to a post about Fileplanet and talked about using 3D game engines for movies. Did i miss something?
Yeah, I'm missing it too. Let me know if you find out, so I can stop being confused. That way I can go back to happily wasting my time on the internet. (Thank goodness I'm not an employee, otherwise I'd have been fired by now:-/ )
A critic's job (IMHO) is to judge a movie's merits within its genre. If you are a critic and don't like cartoons, to deride a movie on that basis alone is a failure to provide any useable insight on the movie's qualities to those who DO.
Agreed. However that means a critic shouldn't be reviewing movies in that genre. But to disregard someone's personal opinion as "shortsighted" isn't right.
To simply deride something because it's a cartoon is so shortsided.
It's only shortsided to you because you *like* catroons. Some people simply don't like cartoons. And that's fine. It doesn't make their views shortsighted.
I just think that the government has no business funding research that does not benefit people/humanity in some tanigible way.
You really should read up on the benefits of the space program. The work done to get humans into space has resulted in numerous, very useful, live-saving innovations. Take a look at medical technology; many of the recent advances wouldn't have happened were it not for the space program.
Also you should take a look at the programs you wish to 'enhance'. Welfare... That's solved poverty hasn't it? No, it didn't.
If we can't find the money to feed people, why do we have piles of it lying around to throw at the most abusrd, useless things?
If it's so worthless, then why are you posting on/.? I'm sure much of the technology involved with the internet resulted from the space program. Would you be willing to give up this resource?
IMHO you should do more research into the space program and it's benefits before you claim that it's a useless ego trip for the world's powers.
... I wish that George Orwell's 1984 was made obligatory reading in schools.
It was in my high school. We read it last year in Sr. English. Everyone I asked about it that read the book said something to the effect of "1984 is just a story. That would never happen in real life. Our government can be trusted. George Orwell is just a paranoid [insert-socially-unacceptable-group (eg communist, etc)]."
When talking to these people, I drew parallels between the book at the current state of events in the US. They denied that there was any correllation between them. They would then say the same thing as above. When asked about their privacy, the used the good ol' facist line: "It doesn't matter if they can look into your private life, if you've got nothing to hide."
It seems to me that most of American is much too apathetic and ignorant. They refuse to see how our right to privacy is being eroded. When it appears that they will be safe... they cast aside their rights and flock to facism. I actually had a teacher say "I'd be willing to have strip-searches of every airline passenger." He seriously thought that would eliminate hijackings. While I've little doubt that it would eliminate lots of hijackings (some would still occur), I don't want to have to let some government employee stick his hand up my ass just so I can fly home to see my family for Christmas.
I can't think of anything that typifies Slashdot better than posting a four-week old article from the Weekly World News.
I can...
a dupe of a four week old story from the Weekly World News
Is this a poll?
I pick 'D' for the editors.
neurostarslashdot has sued itself over spamming their main page with dupes of stories.
mmmm... Dodge Charger RT/440 ('68 or '69)
I think he was joking.

Pshoo! Whap Whap Whap! zzt! zzt! etc....
Well, it looks like the battle happened before I got there... all the ships are gone already :(

neurostarHmm... I'm not sure how that got there.
neurostarYeah, except for me, it just when I hit skip, it just goes back to it. I haven't been able to get to wired news all day :(
Of course, it could be that the ad is trying to place a nasty cookie on my hd. *thanks mozilla*
neurostarYeah, but he was using /. math. ;)
Well put. I understand what was meant now. I was wrong. My apologies.
neurostarWhat I meant is that it's shortsighted to dismiss a movie *simply because* it's animated.
It might be wrong for a critic to do so, but if someone for their own personal enjoyment doesn't like cartoons, it isn't shortsighted.
Two equally great movies.
For some people the fact that it's a cartoon makes it "less great" and that's ok.

neurostarAh ok. You're correct. My bad.
neurostarwill it get me laid?
Ah ok. My bad. I'd never seen the bluescreen on XP so I figured they'd taken it out... I guess the setting is the real reason why. :)
My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced Tab -> "Startup & Recovery" Settings
